Lake Ontario water level meeting tonight in Greece NY

I hope they continue the high outflows until we are closer to “normal”. My suspicion is that they don’t want the water to get too low, as that is bad for shipping and hydropower- and therefore magically we won’t see lows all that often. Hey all- wondering what people suggest for a basic gps/chart plotter? We have a gps now that works, but is old and has very basic (basically no) maps. We also have been losing signal at times. Time for an upgrade. Not looking to break the bank, and don’t need anything super fancy.... we are willing to spend a few hundred bucks- just wondering what your experiences have been? So I was cleaning out and organizing stuff from my boat- and found a lost memory card that had footage from big fish Friday of the Sodus proam this year!! So, naturally I made a new video. So, my last video was of highlights. This one is a little different.... I usually edit out the bad stuff... but I really got a kick out of making this video. I've got a really good group of guys that know what they are doing, but we all have our days. Learned some hard lessons this year, and included a few "what not to do" in this video. Enjoy! So, I ended up making a "highlight" video for our fishing this year. What a year! We did 20 trips between Sodus, olcott and the oak. Our numbers, both hits and catches, were up about 40% from previous years. We averaged 8/12 for the year (normal for me is 5/7 for the last 10 years). All species really showed up this year- though my laker catch was down cause I never really had to target them. Our "worst" day all year was 2/5- and one was a 20 lb king. Our lake is alive and well! Size was down a bit... there are a ton of 1-2 year old kings in the system, so I guess that's a good thing. For the first time in a while, we didn't place in any of the proams we fished- gonna have to remedy that next year! The Fishin' Physician Assistant

Nicely said. I am definitely a king fisherman first and foremost, as is pretty much every fisherman I know. I love catching all species of salmonid, but I will only target them in the ABSENCE of a good king bite. I'll run many many miles to find kings if the bite is on, and will gladly run right over willing brown trout and lakers to get there. I do tend to agree with the science thus far, I think that SHORT TERM cuts are prudent,and I really do think that steve Lapan is a good and honest guy who is worth trusting. Yeah, but they don't HAVE to answer to us. They can do whatever they want. Isn't it a good thing that they are involving us? They clearly care what we think- they answered questions for over an hour, and have incorporated things that fisherman have suggested in the past. So I went to the meeting today. A lot of great data, including presentation of hypothetical data with different alewife hatches and the potential impacts. Those guys were really impressive with how prepared they were. I really do think that Andy and Steve have our best interests at heart. My only regret is that more people didn't show. There is no better setting to directly discuss the management of our fishery- literally the 2 most important players in the whole lake were fielding questions for over an hour. Not based on any data, just common knowledge that increased run off from tribsand increased sedimentation from the high water will provide nutrients from which the food chain can build- eventually benefiting the bait population. More nutrients=healthier (and more) bait. Hopefully this year's yoy will be more robust and more able to survive the winter from the nutrients, so that they can show up strong in next year's trawls. Also, they are actively researching whether or not 2 year old alewives spawn, and if so to what extent. That would be very helpful from a management standpoint, as if they DO spawn at 2, they could help with recruitment sooner than previously thought. Last video from the oak, 8/20. Busy day, including 4 bites in the first 7 minutes, and an almost quad to end the day. We had 18 bites by 10 am... so he action was there. Same water from the day before 200-260 (though more east), but the bigger fish were gone. A lot of 1-2 year old kings, and some decent steel. They wanted mag spoons on riggers 80-110 down, and flasher fly on dipseys. The Fishin' Physician Assistant

15s hatch was good as well. Honestly if this year's hatch (next year's yoy) is good, that will be 3 consecutive good years, and I suspect that we will be fine. I prefer to be cautious- as this is a marathon, not a sprint. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
