  1. Just purchased a pair of wire rod setups from a friend moving out of town. I always wanted a set. First time out got a back lash behind the spool and had to cut the wire and slowly pull it out from behind the spool. I have been searching for the crimps and U bend thing that goes in the swivel without much luck. I found the small crimps but where do you get that little U shape tube that goes thru the swivel since mine is now attached to a King in the lake along with a dipsey and flasher fly setup I believe there is 30lb wire on there but on my other rod I also already had a fray. He told me they are only 1 year old but I really don't trust the wire on either of them now after losing a whole setup and almost loosing another. Does anyone have any tips for me as I honestly wasn't impressed with the wire other than keeping the sea fleas off compared to my braid dipsey rods. I might just go out and buy braid to put on them this year instead of the $44 spool of #30lb wire at gander mountain.
  2. They look good they all work. I tie my own up as well and nothing beets the feeling of hooken up on your own fly. I like a little chartreuse in my greens. Where did you get those cone tips?
  3. 9 ft is the best ugly stick for the riggers - Great Rod
  4. I will keep the reports coming as I am off next week and i should be out at least 2 to 3 times. I think that big wind we had up here on Saturday messed things up. Sunday we were offshore and water was all over the place 50 jumping to 64 80 down. We had thought by Monday things should stabalize which they did but the fish were not on completely. Don't get me wrong we caught some nice steelhead and I am sure most people would be happy with 12 fish a day avg. Its just weird that we haven't got into them. Things will only get bettery
  5. Fishing Report - Your Name / Boat Name: S*K ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):July 1 -2 -3 Time on Water:6-8 hours 3 days Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: Surface Temp: 70 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: Avg 10 a day Total Boated:20 Species Breakdown:rainbows / shaker kings Hot Lure: flasher fly / spoons Trolling Speed: 2-2.5 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 80 - 400 Lure Depth: 80 to 40 Ok, guys here is my breakdown of fishing the last 3 days. I fished Wilson on Saturday off shore and struggled to put a program together caught one steelie for the board and about 9 other hits NO SALMON. Monday fished in front of Olcott by red barn with all the charter captains. We boated a 8 pd steelie right off the bat and thought we were going to do good. 1 1/2 hrs later didn't see any other boat pull the net out and either did we. Didn't mark anything. Headed offshore fished all the way to 29 line and caught a couple but nothing worth while. Heavy Heavy flees out there drove all the way back to prior day marks out in from of Wilson and boat a few more fish not has bad on the fleas. Today fished the bar which hasn't produced but we figured what the heck. Boated a couple small kings and saw some bait and a few pods from 80 to 120 on the ledge, but whether they were lakers or kings unknown no picture there either. Went offshore and boated 8 for 12 on the steelies and best fish in the high 10's again.WHERE ARE ALL THE SALMON THEY MUST ALL BE DOWN BY YOU GUYS EAST END OF THE LAKE?
  6. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:S&K (skill and knowledge) ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):7-1-12 Time on Water:6-12 Weather/Temp:70 Wind Speed/Direction:NW 10-15 Waves: 2 Surface Temp: 70 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 9 Total Boated:5 Species Breakdown:Steelhead Hot Lure: varied spoons Trolling Speed: 3 Down Speed: 2.5 Boat Depth: 300-400 Lure Depth: 80 -90 Went out of Wilson today and struggled we did very well last weekend and with the big blow yesterday stirred everything up. The temp out there was all over the place. It would go from 80 down at 55degress and would jump to 64degrees. We would hit the cold pockets and pick up some fish but slow pickens. We did put small steelie on the board (15th) today as we had a newby that got to reel in all the fish. We also picked up and ran towards the candian line west and did even worse there. Going to try Olcott tomorrow for the morning bite and try off shore again later. Other than that who knows
  7. Will be fishing there tomorrow and will post updates.
  8. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:S*K ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):6-20 Time on Water:3pm - 8pm Weather/Temp:52 Wind Speed/Direction:West 10-20 Waves: 2-3ft Surface Temp: Location:the bar LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 15 Total Boated:15 Species Breakdown:kings Hot Lure: spoons / flys Trolling Speed: 2.5 Down Speed: 2.5 Boat Depth: 70 -300 Lure Depth: 50,60,80 Hit the bar on Wed afternoon. It was a pancake to start and only lasted about 1 hour and the wavees started rolling. Could only fish West to East as of th waves. Ton of shakers on the flasher flys and ran one rod with a spoon to give a newby action. Nothing big, biggest was 10pds. Good Temp and saw some bait also too bad no big guys home that day. Could of been time of day. Going to try again on Saturday maybe hit Olcott as it seems guys are doing better down there.
  9. Thats a new one for me Furuno is a new one I will check them out I know that they are heavy salt water but I don' hear much up here. I did check reeds out again and Lowrance has a $300 rebate on the HD 5. I am just hung up on the screen size compared to the 7 inch screen. Really the 5 is more in my budget however.
  10. Well when I go off shore it is deeper than 300 however I really only look at the top 50ft. I know some graphs get crazy when you go over the max depths. Buddy has an Eagle and its useless unless you lock it out with the zoom over I think 300ft.
  11. Ok, thanks keep the suggestions coming. I am going to check Reeds out. I bought my flasher years ago from there.
  12. Ok, I know this is a heated topic I would like to buya new graph and I am undecided on Lowrance or Hummingbird. I own 2 boats one 17 foot and one trolling 21 foot. I am going to get 2 setups to use the same graph on both boats. I spend most of my time fishing for salmon but also do some bass and walleye. I seem to be inbetween more functions with a smaller screen or more screen less tools. I have been leaning on the hummingbird either 798(5in) with side scan or 858 (7in) without it but I also like the lowrance 5(in) elite. I don't know anyone who has the side scan to see if they really like it or not or if its worth it. Any help would be welcome and or if any other Finders are the market that you think worthy let me know.
  13. Friend going down tonight will post how he makes out
  14. Best rod Ugly stick 9ft down rigger. I have ton of cheapies that are 8ft 6 but they can't compare to the ugly stick 9ft for a rigger rod.
  15. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):9-3 Time on Water:5hrs Weather/Temp:85 hot Wind Speed/Direction:calm Waves: 1ft or less Surface Temp: 72 Location:Niagara Bar LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 5 Total Boated:4 Species Breakdown:steelhead , kings Hot Lure: spin doctor / homemade flys Trolling Speed: 3 Down Speed: 2 1/4 Boat Depth: 26 line / bar 120 Lure Depth: 60ft Last time out for the year new the bar was slow and headed right past the pack to the 26 line. Trolled to 28 before first hit with a swing and a miss. Marked some bait swung back around and about 1 hour later caught 8 pd steely. Slow pickens and decided to hit the bar on the way back. Guess I messed up as wasn't down 5 minutes with spin doctor and 24pdr hit. Landed that one and about 30mins later rigger goes off again and on the hand off slack line, reel up and 50pd mono broke on the fly. No contest here just fishen for fun. This is the reason for packen up the boat this time of year. Boat next to me was heading back and decided to go full throtle right over my spread and I kid you not 50yds. I think the guys were drunk as whooping and hollering or just the usual inconsiderant fall fisherman. Ironically right as they over me and I am ready to show them my best finger and the rigger pops and there is the next fish, so they got a show as they were driven 20 mph over my lines. The fished turned about to be about the same weight. Another bad encounter and I know there are inconsiderate people from every state but boat from OH liked to play chicken and even though i was going out of my way to avoid a head on he kept comen right at me. Good luck to the rest of you with the fall combat fisherman to the goose fields i go
  16. Friend fished today other there who is a unnamed charter captain and did squat...the early and late is normally true but hasn't come true for me this year.
  17. Friend fished 2 days one last weekend and Tuesday. Lots of fish but no takers. Had to give up on the kings on the ledge and troll to olcott for a slow brown bite. Other day had to go offshore for steelies. My last 2 outings out there have been about the same early season was great and come end of August forgot about it. If anyone else has done been I would love to hear about it.
  18. Thanks for the suggestions - I am guessing they guy went out of business?
  19. We have been fishing this year and doing very well on one of these spoons. My friend bought it in Canada around the Welland years ago. I have searched the web but cannot find them other than group purchases on EBAY. Does anyone know where I can buy them on the internet? And of course we lost the lucky spoon with no others in that color.
  20. 9 ft ugly sticks the best. I have a couple 8'6 heartlands and they are ok but the extra 4 inches makes the rod load up so much better.
  21. If you want salmon stay in closer work 150 to 220 avg depth on riggers 50 -60. I fished Sunday and caught 5 matures and some shakers all on flasher fly combos didn't really matter what color. Ran flasher flys on dipseys and riggers trying to keep shakers off but they still hit the bigger stuff. Biggest was 24pds.
  22. I agree I fished out of Wilson this weekend and had a 30 fish day with a mixed back of kings, steelies, coho's and of course one king for the board that got off with a bent hook at the net. - I would come early that later but weather as they said is a big factor Saturday East winds only 2 kings and shakers and Sunday 30 fish with a southwest breeze. Good Luck the fish are here..
  23. Beauty...... imagine what that fish would of weighed in the fall
  24. Yep, carberator works fine as far as I can tell. I also thought about replaceing the spring as well but the tension and seems ok. Throttle cable moves forward but won't come back when connected to carb. When i put it on another setting for the carberator it moved fine but I didn't get enough movement in the carberator for enough gas. It has to be on the far setting for it to have enough range for full throttle. I agree either something with the carberator or shifter is just out of whack. I know its something minor. I am going to call dry drock tomorrow and see when he can get me in. Summers wasting away what little we have had. I enjoyed fishing the summer derby last year had a couple steelies on the board but it ain't going to happen this year. I apprectiate all the suggestions. keep them coming i was hoping someone else might of had the same problem and would know the fix
