  1. Used this stuff last year and seemed to work pretty good...
  2. I've been thinking about marketing something called "dummy" boards. Small inexpensive board that could be run a comfortable distance outside of your normal spread and attached with light line that would break away easily when hooked by another boat. Maybe packaged with a big birds nest of old mono with a few rusty trebles mixed in, and of course a note in a sealed bag...."you were too close.... dummy" Even thought about saturating the note in skunk scent or some other nice surprise.... Combo package might include a water balloon launcher with some rotten eggs....for those boats just out of reach of your dummy board...
  3. Sandy creek near Hamlin. Between Oak Orchard and Rochester. Thanks, Jeff
  4. I'm looking for a pet friendly rental near sandy creek. Cottage or room rental for 4. Thanks. Jeff
  5. http://www.aktroutfitters.com/ We took a float trip with them back in 2002 and it was awesome. It's not cheap, but how often do you get to Alaska? They are located at coopers landing which is between Anchorage and Seward. The village of Talkeetna also has a few guides that will do drop off trips, we did a day on clear creek unguided, but was well worth the $$ to get away from the crowd. You won't have too much trouble finding salmon out there.
  6. The guy who reels it in always says it is his fish, but I always like to ask "could you cast from shore and catch it?" I'd say it is his fish, but we all know who actually "hooked" the fish, and that to me is the challenge, any monkey can reel them in. I've had 5 different guys get fish mounted off of my boat and I never thought about mounting one myself, but like gambler said, you can always get 2 mounts.
  7. We also add golf tees for the swivels. Push easily into the noodle and hold the swivel in place. Amish outfitters make a flat pad that has little double pins in them that works really well too. If you leave your rods together you could always leave the leader attached and clip to the loose end on your reel or one of the eyes of the rod.
  8. Depends on where you fish. Some ports have decent shops. Slippery sinker in Olcott. Fat Nancy's out east. Narby's and Captains Cove at Oak Orchard. Usually have good info on fishing/hot lures as well. Classified section on here gets some good deals now and then as well. Check out the sponsors section for online shops.
  9. more than likely a poor ground. try connecting directly to your battery and make sure connections are clean.
  10. "Regretfully as the rules are written travel over the border is nor permitted for this years event." Am is missing something here? This is in writing on the very 1st post of the thread.
  11. We came up April 12. We lost 1/3 of our fishing time chasing down a fishing license. To drive 9 hours and loose that much fishing time sucks no matter who you are or how many fish you catch. Just trying to help others avoid the same problem. The system may be fine now or maybe not, but everyone in my fishing parties will be licensed before we get to NY so we don't loose any more time on the water.
  12. They are talking the boom may come out by the 1st week of May. I'm guessing that's going to make derby fishing the bar very interesting with debris, ice, and boat traffic. I haven't fished the lake long enough to experience a year like this. What should we expect? Do most ice chunks float high enough to see?
  13. When we were up a couple of weeks ago the over the counter licensing system was down. We stopped at 3 different stores before someone let us know it was on the state's end and we had to purchase licenses on the computer. Had to go back to the hotel and thankfully they had a computer with a printer. Not sure if they got the issue resolved, but if you're headed out and you don't have a license yet, I'd get one online to be safe. It took us over 4 hours to finally get licensed and able to fish once we hit NY.
  14. Had luck with coho's last year on cheaters/shallow riggers. 8ft rigger and free slider doubled up 4 or 5 times last spring with doubles on the same rod. Can't hurt to try it.
  15. Bought a cumings at Slipery sinker last year because my other one flew out of the boat. Nice long handle and the hooks come out very easy. Also has an octagonal handle so when you extend it the pin always lines up....used my buddies beckman last week and it was a PIA to get the pin to line up when extending the handle.
  16. What's really funny or maybe sad is that there are 100 replies to this post and yet only 2 of us mentioned recent fishing reports! Gas up your boats and get out on the lake! Plenty of coho's and browns right on the shoreline to cure cabin fever until the "mighty" fish come around. Fight with fish, not each other.
  17. Just a heads up to anyone looking to launch at the north ramp. We launched there Saturday on the ramp closest to the lake. The trailer dropped close to a foot when I backed it in. Big hole on that side. Also saw a large rock on the dock closest to the lake with a lot of prop scars on it, Maybe one boat length from the ramp. Just trying to save you guys some troubles. Jeff
  18. There are a couple options. If you're going to fish the bar/lake you can launch right at the fort. The northern most ramp is a little shallow if you have a larger boat. There is also a launch right in Lewiston if you're going to fish the river.
  19. Wow did this report get way off track...sorry if I stirred the pot just stating my opinion.
  20. I'm a fan of big fish too...but the LOC is becoming a joke if you ask me. Who get's the grand prize when no salmon show up? With all the ice still on Erie, this could be the year... P.S. nice report. We were out there too and didn't see many drifters catching fish inside of the green can. Trolled the shoreline and started popping rods with browns and cohos.
  21. The crack is just under the water line off the center of the bow maybe 12 inches off the starboard side and it is running port to starboard. It's not even separated at this point, but I want to make it right before the season gets under way. Looks are not on the top of my list, as long as it is safe. We used epoxy on a canoe some 30 years ago and it still looks like the day it was applied, but the canoe doesn't take a beating from waves. I think I'll try the jb weld and keep a good eye on it, the inside is going to be a chore to get to. Thanks to all that replied. Jeff
  22. In getting my boat ready for splashdown I noticed a hairline crack about 2" long on the bottom of my hull. It's a crestliner sabre, which is welded, but the crack is not on a weld. You really have to look to even see the crack, but I want to make it right before it gets worse or leaks. Should I take it to a welder or is there a product like JB Weld that would fix it? I've read about leaky rivets fixed but not sure what to do with a crack. Some one mentioned JB Weld to me but I wanted to ask here to see if anyone else has input. Jeff
