  1. I'm going to try adjusting the ping, but I've had the unit for a couple of years now and never had any issues like this in the past. I didn't turn it of for more than a few minutes so it could've been a heat issue. I guess I'll wait to see what it does this spring. In hind site I should've sent it back in the fall.
  2. I never fished over there but you might try walleye.com for more info on Port Clinton area.
  3. Not Nessie, but your pic might help. The interference looks like the light blue in your pic. If everything on your screen was red and turned upside down, it would look like mine.
  4. I've always marked bait, hooks, rigger balls and occasionally dispys but never had this issue until last year. To be more clear, when the screen fills with clutter, it doesn't go away, it stays on the screen for 10 minutes to several hours. Turn the unit off and on, and it comes right back as clutter. Never thought to take a picture of the screen.
  5. I agree there was a ton of bait last year, but this was more than just bait. The bottom edge of the clutter had jagged peaks if that makes any sense.
  6. So last season my furuno 620 unit started acting funny. It would track riggers and mark fish fine then I'd come over a bait ball and it would fill the screen with clutter. When that happens I loose sight of the riggers or any fish marks. I just have clutter. I tried adjustjing the gain, even reset to factory settings with no luck. Anyone else have this issue or have any ideas? It doesn't happen all the time, which makes me think it's not a grounding issue.
  7. http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishing-hunting/topic/43697-best-trolling-motor-with-i-pilot/?view=findpost&p=287271&hl=%2Bbest+%2Btrolling+%2Bmotor+%2Bwith+%2Bipilot good post from last year on the topic.
  8. I had a 1990 140 Johnson that did the same thing. One trick that helped mine start faster, prime the bulb til hard, turn the motor over for a few seconds, go back and reprime the bulb til hard again. Mine usually started after that sequence and would fire right back up after trolling. My buddy now owns that boat and the trick still works. I'm guessing there is a pin hole in the fuel supply somewhere but could never find it. That motor would fine if we used it every day, leave it sit for 2 weeks and you'd have to go through the same thing. Definitely change plugs. I'd get in the habit of doing that every spring. Relatively cheap and 2 strokes like to foul plugs, especially if you run them at low speeds. I'd also recommend running the boat at home on muffs the day before you plan on fishing. It never hurts to check things out in the driveway, also helps speed up the start in the morning.
  9. I had the same issue last year (2nd year running the torpedo cable) on my big jon riggers. Bad enough at the end of the season I'm going back to coated cable.
  10. Maybe I'm missing something here but to me, making a "good penny" is more than taking friends fishing. On my boat we split the days costs equally among the crew, including myself. I pay what everyone else does for the day. I don't think anyone would argue an extra dollar here or there for a lost spoon or spinny, but it sounds like you are doing a little more than that.
  11. Sounds normal to me. The domestic argument at my house usually ends with: "when you quit buying shoes, I'll quit buying tackle"
  12. We use a spro swivel tied as described on LOTSA. With the abrasive nature of wire, I would not trust a wire to mono connection. Quality swivels are cheap compared to losing a diver and lure. Not saying the Albright knot wouldn't work, but I've seen what wire does to mono and just don't trust that connection.
  13. I've been running ugly sticks for a few seasons with 0 complaints. 1101 9' are nice but the 7' are much easier to handle when setting lines. Franks great outdoors has them on sale for under $30. I also run my coppers off the 7' with no issues.
  14. I'd never been caught if I just kept my mouth shut...said the fish.
  15. I have a pair of new gold/silver taco 1 1/2 outrigger poles that extend to 15'. I bought them out of cabelas bargain cave a couple years ago and decided not to mount them. The package was a little beat up but the poles are new. I don't have any mounts or hardware, just the poles. Looking to get $300 out of them. Willing to deliver to Niagra bar area in the spring or buyer pays shipping. Thought I'd throw them on here before ebay. I can send pics if someone has interest. Model # is OT-0541VEL15-HD.
  16. Nice to talk with a real person once in a while. Glad to hear its going to work for you. You'll learn to love the micro adjustments of the control king!
  17. here it is hooked up. Mine is a 2010 but I'm sure they still have the adapters.
  18. Contact control king. They make an adapter so you can use both. Very simple to install, it's just a piece of shrink tube and a piece of copper tubing that you install over the original tohasu linkage. You have to cut the original linkage and slide the tubing over it to give it the play you need. I posted a pic for another member a few years ago but cant seem to find it.
  19. Shimano charter specials are pretty nice reels. New they are a little over your budget but the lever drags are awesome for setting lines. Been running mine for a few seasons now and love them. I got 2 rebuilt off ebay for around $75 each.
  20. Frogger, I ran a 9.8 4stroke tohatsu off a 19.5 sea nymph fish and ski with no issues. The tohatsu replaced a 9.9 2 stroke. I didn't notice any difference in weight. I did put the 3.5 gallon fuel can on the opposite side of the boat but also did that with the 2 stoke engine.
  21. I like to cut shooting lanes for next year's stands to put a little extra browse on the ground.
  22. Tim, Here's a post from last year from Wilson boatyard in a similar thread. I've installed a few autopilots using various kicker drives. There's a few better than the panther. Most are vary fast and can keep up without any problem provided your running a high thrust motor. I know he mentions high thrust motors but should be able to give you some options.
