  1. For the Luhr Jensen to be equivalent to the deep diver it has to have the O ring on it correct? For those who have used both, any significant difference with how the plane on reel in?
  2. The 124 mm is a size 5 correct? Never used the Walker divers, these look to be a remake of them. Are the settings similar to the Luhr Jensen with how they track to the side of the boat?
  3. Thanks, this is a great chart. One more question.....is there a preference between running with the O rings or without?
  4. 2 questions for you all. First, I have the Luhr Jensen diver depth charts downloaded on my phone for reference. Some of you are saying there is some variables beyond boat speed that can change that. If so, by how much? I use one per side if another 1-2 people with me on the boat but at 2 or 3 plate setting to keep to the side/reduced chance of tangles. If running mags with flasher/fly to reach 60+ depths how close will the chart be to reality? Second, I read that some folks put a run of 30-40lb mono from wire to dipsey to act as a snubber. Good idea? Or just run mono or flouro 10-15 feet from dipsey to lure and that will give enough stretch. I've had fewer drops since ditching the snubbers but still seem to have more dipsey drops than other setups which are mostly rigger rods and copper.
  5. Tomorrow sounds nasty with wind so be a while before we get out again....
  6. With the low water level the home port, Dean's, was out so took a ride down to Taughannock. Surprised to see the lake level down a few more feet since there in January with Chowder. CAREFULLY launched the Wellcraft and props up until through the bridge as didn't need to rototill the bottom or the bubbler. Going solo means keep the wind at my back so headed North on the West side. Worked as shallow as I dared, never shallower than 40 for as didn't want the southeast wind to push the boat to shore. Could not get anything in the upper 20 feet but didn't mark much either. Moved out and zigzagged from 80-250. Would mark concentrations of fish now and then and go long stretches with a blank screen. Picked up some small salmon and lake trout on spoons at 40-60 foot depths. Worked deeper and a really nice fish took a Bloody Death spoon 80 feet down. Had him about 30 feet back before he spit it.... pretty sure a big angry lake trout. Stayed warm during the battle which made it worth the price of admission. First wet lines by 9:30, landed a 5 lb Laker on white flasher fly down 100 as wrapping up at 12:30 so a nice little trip despite the lack of consistent action. Shout out to the crew coming in to dock behind me. Rather than grumble about how long it takes for me to load out solo, one very limber fella jumped on my trailer and locked the boat on in a heartbeat. Appreciate it.
  7. Went by on my way back from Taughannock and saw one rig in the parking lot. Was that you? Find some fish?
  8. It was open water last Sunday. I have not been by since
  9. 150 down with your riggers? And there are silver fish down that deep? If I'm going to try that with my manuals I better hit the gym hard. 💪💪
  10. Wellcraft walk-around 24 foot. I'm worried the motor weight on the back end will be a problem. I suppose if I get out but can't get back in will just have to keep fishing until the lake level rises. Supposed to be a little warmer next weekend but I think will go to Taughannock. When the lake level is up we can't fit under the bridge but should be fine now. Thanks for the info.
  11. So for loading can you back your trailer in past the dock? Did your truck get out in the water far? I'm a little nervous about having the whole thing get stuck. Have 4 wheel drive but..... maybe should drive down to Taughannock
  12. How did you get back in?
  13. Did you drive your trailer beyond the end of the dock then? Does the ramp extend out farther?
  14. Has anyone launched from Dean's Cove in the past when the lake level is as low as it is now? I walked to the end of the dock today and my tape measure hit bottom with just 18 inches of water. Doesn't look like it gets much deeper past the dock either. Does DEC ever dig out all the silt and dead leaves on the bottom? I'm assuming Taughannock is the only spot on the West side that has a channel deep enough to launch. Anyone with past experience please let me know.
  15. That's great to see!! . If you were chopping ice to clear the launch you deserve some great fishing!! Thanks for the pictures and whetting our appetites!!
  16. Ouch. That had to be a painful moment. Kudos to you for not going overboard to go after it!!
  17. Finally got around to bringing the downrigger in the house and cut back the frayed wire. As you can see I decided on the Klincher. It was a piece of cake and seems very secure. I appreciate the info you all passed on.
  18. Looking to get on the water early this Spring for the first time. With shallow water setups what type of leader sizes and lengths are used, specifically when trolling streamers and also for stickbaits or spoons running 10-20 feet down. Thanks in advance for the info!
  19. Me too. Anybody with ideas on how to break up the ice I'm willing to help...
  20. Unless something changed in the past month the Sutton Spoon company is still active in Naples. You can contact them via their Facebook page.
  21. That first fish has color just like the browns we caught in the streams in Connecticut back a couple decades.....ok more than a couple decades. 😉. I wonder about the strong silver look of Finger lakes browns. Is that typical of most lake browns or just unique here?
  22. Cold and Marine batteries don't seem to be the best combination. Glad to hear you got out there and found a few fish!
  23. How was the fishing?
  24. The bubbler was on but it does not come up right at the launch but under the dock and over to the side. It was single digits Sunday morning so right at the ramp it was frozen but 15-20 yards beyond the dock the channel opened up. Not supposed to be as cold tonight but you still may need to chop out the launch ramp along the length of the dock. A flamethrower would be helpful to speed up the process. 🔥🔥
