Tampa Bay Inshore Trip

Arrived at the launch about noon with forecast of cloudy afternoon but had a bright sun and blue sky to start. With crystal clear water running along the shore was a non-starter so set up in 40-80 fow at first . Empty screen and empty net so slid out farther picking up just a couple on the small side so headed out to the middle dropping a ball deep. One release but gone before grabbing the rod. Coming into under 200 fow on the East side and the party started with fish from 18-28 inches hitting consistently for the next hour. Headed straight back over to Taughannock to finish and still had rods going off despite the screen showing just an occasional mark. Would love to get out again soon but it seems we are having some true Winter weather this year......

Launched out of Taughannock at noon and enjoyed an afternoon of trolling. Sun was out at first and the fish were not interested. An hour later some clouds moved in and it was game on. All Lakers today with an even mix taking spoons off the riggers and hitting flies on dipseys. Nice afternoon for January.

Looking good. Usually don't make the trip to Ontario until March but your recent reports inspired a trip up to the Port this morning. Started off picking up a few small Browns, then once the strong mid-morning wind subsided found a few better fish and a handful of aggressive and angry Lakers that were loads of fun on light tackle. Surprised to find them in 20-30 fow. Spoons on riggers and a 2 color core worked best. A nice morning to be on the water in late December

Love that you are keeping a positive attitude and moving on. At least your boat was not vandalized/damaged and you can keep getting out on the water. Glad you are making the most out of a bad situation.

That's quite a change. Wonder what the remnants of the hurricane will do to the lake...... -

AnglingAddict & rolmops I appreciate your thoughts. What is the typical thermocline depth in the middle of the lake? Last 2 weekends working inside of 250 it was 75 to over 90 down to find 55 degree water. I'm guessing a strong wind in from the North or NorthWest would be needed to change that pattern on the Eastern part of the lake -

What triggers the fish to move offshore, change in weather/wind/water temps or movement of bait, or both? When fishing offshore how far out/what water depth do you start trolling in search of activity? It's a big lake out there and it seems daunting to try and narrow down where feeding fish are.
