  1. I forgot to add, that is a sharp boat! I'm looking forward to getting a hard top on mine but really need to invest in an autopilot and updated electronics first. All in due time.....
  2. I agree. This week the lake has come up a little more so I would think you'll be ok at Dean's. Last week I backed my trailer in past the end of the concrete ramp and at least to the end of the dock but the ground was smooth and firm. I was on the South side of the dock. If the water levels keep coming up like they have the last 2 weeks we will be in even better shape next week.
  3. Reach out to me with a pm the last week or so of June and we will get together.
  4. A few weeks back I was able to get my 24' Wellcraft out at Taughannock. Since then the water is up a little so you should be able to launch there but keep your motor trimmed up so you don't hit the bubbler on the bottom. If you have a hard or solid rocket launcher top you best measure height off the bridge so it doesn't scrape it going through.
  5. Anytime I would love the company. The family only wants to go when warmer weather. Plus they like sleeping in so summer trips starting at 5:30 am don't work for them they want 5:30 pm. Get in touch with me and we'll get after it sometime. And remember, I'm just doing what you all on this site taught me over the years. Looking forward to getting a little smarter at catching silvers. They don't like what I've been selling nearly as much as the Lakers do.
  6. 24 foot Wellcraft. Near the end of the dock at Deans to get it off the trailer and had great help from a couple perch fisherman when loading out so it went quickly despite the fact that we talked shop for awhile. You should be fine but just in case keep your main motor trimmed up until you get out of the cove. I had to do that at Taughannock last month too as didn't want to rototill the bubbler.....
  7. Finally some free time and decent weather to get on the lake. Water level was up enough to launch from Dean's so saved a half-hour plus drive each way when going to Taughannock. Started out working the shallow water with some stickbaits and spoons but nothing happening. Worked out deeper and found groups of actively feeding lake trout in 100-130 fow. Searched for a bit out to 250 fow but never found any big bait pods. Went back to the 1/2 mile stretch with the areas of feeding fish and had a great time bringing a dozen fish in. The first pic was a double, off dipsey #2 setting out 200 and a 500 copper. All fish went for flasher/fly except pic 2 who hammered this new spoon from the set sent to me by Jonathan Ross of Hawks Custom tackle. I asked him to send a starter set for Cayuga lake. So far so good! 👍
  8. Thanks for the report. Sounds like a nice day on the water!
  9. If it catches fish who can argue. I remember those oj cans. Perhaps a little oj scent is a fish attractant too. 😉
  10. Orange juice cans?? Strange... Was he handlining?
  11. That is interesting stuff, thanks for sharing the link. Would love to look at the animated map a couple weeks ago with those big winds!
  12. I have read tons of posts on this site about strong currents on Lake Ontario. Is that true for much of the South shore or primarily the Niagara inflow and St Lawrence outflow. How does the Niagara inflow move, right out to the center of the lake or swirl up to the North or down along the South shore. I'm guessing the Genesee creates a significant plume depending on the weather and time of year. Are there others, (especially from Rochester East as when I have completed Cayuga Lake 101 I'll be giving the Big Lake a try and head straight North from home to launch around Wolcott, 😉)
  13. For the Luhr Jensen to be equivalent to the deep diver it has to have the O ring on it correct? For those who have used both, any significant difference with how the plane on reel in?
  14. The 124 mm is a size 5 correct? Never used the Walker divers, these look to be a remake of them. Are the settings similar to the Luhr Jensen with how they track to the side of the boat?
  15. Thanks, this is a great chart. One more question.....is there a preference between running with the O rings or without?
  16. 2 questions for you all. First, I have the Luhr Jensen diver depth charts downloaded on my phone for reference. Some of you are saying there is some variables beyond boat speed that can change that. If so, by how much? I use one per side if another 1-2 people with me on the boat but at 2 or 3 plate setting to keep to the side/reduced chance of tangles. If running mags with flasher/fly to reach 60+ depths how close will the chart be to reality? Second, I read that some folks put a run of 30-40lb mono from wire to dipsey to act as a snubber. Good idea? Or just run mono or flouro 10-15 feet from dipsey to lure and that will give enough stretch. I've had fewer drops since ditching the snubbers but still seem to have more dipsey drops than other setups which are mostly rigger rods and copper.
  17. Tomorrow sounds nasty with wind so be a while before we get out again....
  18. With the low water level the home port, Dean's, was out so took a ride down to Taughannock. Surprised to see the lake level down a few more feet since there in January with Chowder. CAREFULLY launched the Wellcraft and props up until through the bridge as didn't need to rototill the bottom or the bubbler. Going solo means keep the wind at my back so headed North on the West side. Worked as shallow as I dared, never shallower than 40 for as didn't want the southeast wind to push the boat to shore. Could not get anything in the upper 20 feet but didn't mark much either. Moved out and zigzagged from 80-250. Would mark concentrations of fish now and then and go long stretches with a blank screen. Picked up some small salmon and lake trout on spoons at 40-60 foot depths. Worked deeper and a really nice fish took a Bloody Death spoon 80 feet down. Had him about 30 feet back before he spit it.... pretty sure a big angry lake trout. Stayed warm during the battle which made it worth the price of admission. First wet lines by 9:30, landed a 5 lb Laker on white flasher fly down 100 as wrapping up at 12:30 so a nice little trip despite the lack of consistent action. Shout out to the crew coming in to dock behind me. Rather than grumble about how long it takes for me to load out solo, one very limber fella jumped on my trailer and locked the boat on in a heartbeat. Appreciate it.
  19. Went by on my way back from Taughannock and saw one rig in the parking lot. Was that you? Find some fish?
  20. It was open water last Sunday. I have not been by since
  21. 150 down with your riggers? And there are silver fish down that deep? If I'm going to try that with my manuals I better hit the gym hard. 💪💪
  22. Wellcraft walk-around 24 foot. I'm worried the motor weight on the back end will be a problem. I suppose if I get out but can't get back in will just have to keep fishing until the lake level rises. Supposed to be a little warmer next weekend but I think will go to Taughannock. When the lake level is up we can't fit under the bridge but should be fine now. Thanks for the info.
  23. So for loading can you back your trailer in past the dock? Did your truck get out in the water far? I'm a little nervous about having the whole thing get stuck. Have 4 wheel drive but..... maybe should drive down to Taughannock
  24. Did you drive your trailer beyond the end of the dock then? Does the ramp extend out farther?
