  1. Nice to hit the water as first time out since the 4th. South wind so started a little above Sheldrake and put the wind at my back for the solo trip. Worked over deep water in the center of the lake Steady pick of lake trout in the 20-24" size plus a few smaller ones. Found a couple barely legal salmon which is an improvement from the skippies I've been finding over the past month. Green was the favored color this morning. The majority of fish wanted spoons vs flies. Hottest depth was 60-70 down though the 200 copper took a solid lake trout and a salmon. 80-90 feet down also produced fish. One of the larger Lakers had a recent large lamprey mark, the first I've seen on a fish this year. Hopefully the lampreys will continue to be a rarity. Great morning to get out on the water!
  2. Still the same for you but they moved the machine from the upper parking lot to the lower drive by the launch
  3. Good point. Does anyone, DEC included, know the status of successful natural reproduction in Cayuga lake? Last I knew a mineral imbalance was such that essentially no lake trout could reproduce in Cayuga. If that is true, then harvest rate control is not a factor unless a tremendous number of fishermen suddenly deplete the numbers. Restocking rates are equivalent or above current catch rates. Otherwise the fishery would suffer. I would sooner wonder the status of the landlocked program as very few reports of legal sized catches this year and I feel like despite my best efforts most skippies I catch do not survive after release.
  4. Yes but, the fight of one nice King can equal several Lakers......
  5. You best stop catching so many fish when you visit!
  6. The worst is too often I'll see blood on my hand and find it doesn't go away. Laker bites tend to cause serious paper cuts!
  7. Agreed. Many complain of DEC mismanagement with Seneca lake but don't you wonder if there is more than just a lamprey issue there?
  8. I for one hope it continues for awhile. Haven't noticed much in the way of lamprey marks on the fish. Anyone else seeing signs of lampreys?
  9. So even though you had the permit taped to the windshield they still gave a warning? Mine is taped on as well but no warnings.....yet
  10. Looks like you are picking up where you left off last year. Those are Owasco fish?
  11. Ditto Sk8man Lakerchaser, and Stinger. Some lake trout will be a short paddle right straight out of Dean's or go North a touch out of the Cove and should find fish. Up to you to get them to take what you are offering.
  12. So glad you invited me Andy. It was both an honor and a pleasure to be on the inaugural trip for Emily III. She is a great fishing machine with loads of memorable fishing days ahead. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. Great job with the kids. Silvers have been scarce across on the West side. Was there a Bass tournament this weekend?? The only time Dean's is packed like that is when the bass fishermen have something going
  14. Sad but true. Word is that back in the 70's and '80's the Chemical company in Waterloo would discharge in that canal and turn the water florescent green or orange so I guess a little human discharge is minimal impact in comparison. Runoff from sloping fields that get livestock manure spread are probably as bad or worse Sent from my Pixel 2 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. I'm sure it already has. That location is about 1 mile upstream on the canal that flows into the North end of Cayuga. Depending on currents it could run South towards Cayuga state park but more likely will get pulled towards the Seneca river and up towards Montezuma. More apt to expose bullhead, bass, perch in the shallow North end. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. Well isn't that just great!
  17. Really heavy rain throughout the day in Seneca County. Tonight Cayuga lake level looks significantly higher than 24 hours ago and brown water extends out well over 100 yards from shore along the West side. If hitting the lake this weekend watch out for debris.
  18. Zebedee, I appreciate hearing of your experience with the Kings. As I get more time on the water I plan to graduate from Cayuga and spend some time out on Ontario but the boat needs some electronic upgrades first. That lake trout was no King but it took out 40 feet of line when it first hit which in my experience is exceptional for a Cayuga lake trout. I never felt like I let the line get slack reeling in BUT, I did have to keep adjusting the wheel as worked the fish in during the thick fog. Perhaps it had a chance to make a run at the boat and wrap around the wire during one of those steering moments. Yes I have been there done that with letting out line too fast and wrapping up all the terminal tackle. I remember the mess and also recall knowing something was wrong right away. Despite losing some tackle I hope some fish found the bottom of your boat and made your day a great one.
  19. Finally had a chance to get on the water after a couple busy weeks. All 3 of my high school/college age kids had to work today so was left to go solo but no regrets as glad they are willing to work some to help with college costs. Launched from Dean's a little after six and headed North. Surface water temp at 58. The fog was super thick so set up in deeper water then worked back in 100-150 fow for the first half of the trip as nervous about the poor visibility with no copilot. Flasher fly on the dipsey was attracting lake trout set at a 2 back 195-225. One 29" fish really hammered it and somehow caused the mono leader to wrap around the wire above the dipsey. Just as I was trying to net him along side the boat the wire snapped and he drifted back with fly, flasher, and dipsey. Fortunately, I had a rigger rod set on that side of the boat so purposely let the fish and dipsey get snagged around the line. Reeled it up and managed to bring in the fish and the gear! That one was the big fish of the day with a 26" second place. Both were beautifully colored native fish. Wished I could take pictures but not enough hands coupled with the rain made it too tough to get done. Still have no clue how the mono managed to wrap around the wire above the dipsey..... anyone else have that happen? Once the fog started to lift worked in the 40-80 fow range but only found a few smaller lake trout hitting spoons. The rain kept on most of the morning but it stayed warm enough with minimal wind so kept at it until 10 then decided time to get in and dry up a little. To all you Dads out there have a great Father's Day!!
  20. Can you fish live bait on the bottom or do you need to suspend a little? I've heard in some areas the gobies are a nuisance. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. Most perch fisherman were very polite back when water leverls were too low to launch from Cayuga state park. Of course I wasn't quizzing them on where the hotspots were.
  22. Nice. Fish fry at your house! My neighbor down on 89 claimed the perch move South fron the shallower North end on Cayuga this time of year. Do they hang around long or move back North soon? I have never targeted them here but seeing that stout pile makes me hungry!!
  23. Sounds very similar to what was happening last Sunday. Sooner or later the Silver fish need to come join the Laker party in the shallows. Those huge balls of bait should attract their attention. Maybe another week will bring them in. Did you go South past Sheldrake? I didn't last weekend but wondering how it is from there down to the powerplant.
  24. I checked in with Tony at Great Lakes Planers and sent him a bunch of pictures of what I have. He's pretty comfortable that he can get me set up. Thanks all for the help. After a couple trips with Chowder seeing Planers in action I'm looking forward to giving it a go on my boat.
  25. I appreciate your reply. Metal work is beyond my.capability but I'm sure i can find someone who will give it a go to get it up and running.
