  1. Well, I started by running the second/third color junction at the water surface down the chute. As the sun got a little higher, dropped the end of the third color to the surface of the water. Speed ranged from 2.1-2.6 in 15-25 fow. One time in 15 fow it vaught the bottom but otherwise ran ok......and caught some fish. Drynet, you bring up another ?......does flouro lack stretch to be a problem with breakoffs?
  2. How much additional drop would you suspect a Standard spoon would have off a 30 foot leader?
  3. So just last month started fishing Ontario after only fishing Cayuga lake prior and I also started using leadcores for the first time. Chowder told me by using leadcore I officially turned to the Dark Side!! Been running a 30 foot flouro leader on a 3 color leadcore with a standard Stinger spoon. If I'm letting line out until the end of the 3rd l color touches the water, how deep is the spoon? Will it be moving several feet up and down in the column or stay at a steady depth? If I put a shallow diver stick on, will that drop a little deeper? Does the flouro leader length affect the depth the spoon or stick ultimately runs? Finally, how does depth of lures on leadcore compare to running behind copper? I appreciate any input.
  4. That's a great looking crew you have there. The smiles tell it all, regardless of what the fish are doing!!
  5. I'm thinking this site needs a "Fisherman's Best Friend" page to post photos of all the great dogs out there.
  6. If you note in both photos, my gal is on a leash. Training her young about the boundaries so later on, perhaps even this summer, she can be loose in the boat. Don't want any negative experiences with the water, fish, or hooks while she is still young. If your dog is older and a hardcore swimmer it may take some time and patience to train it to stay in the boat. Definitely start with a short leash and short trips....even non-fishing trips so can focus on the dog.
  7. To further muddy the waters, I forgot the name of the spoon but found this new unopened Scorpion in my box. I was actually using a Standard spoon so yes, the fish in the photo has a standard length spoon not a little Scorpion stuck in his mouth
  8. Must be thats why mine caught the bigger fish.... Its all about Dem Dar UV rays......
  9. Purebred Golden Retriever, 9 months old today. She's been my first mate quite often since September.
  10. Yesterday I learned the key to successful fishing on Lake Ontario.....never let Andy's boat get more than 100 yards away!! Note his rig in the background of the first photo!! Even catching just the fish that missed his setup I boxed out several times over and nearly all caught were solid fish!! This early on in my Lake Ontario learning curve I'm ecstatic with these reults!!
  11. Right on tue money! Part of being an outdoorsman is at times enjoying human distancing and embracing what Nature offers us!!
  12. Bring mine along every time I fish. Never know when might need a battery jump or air for a down tire. Only needed the jump once when main motor wouldn't turn on a 20 degree day but the piece of mind is worth it.
  13. Get it done when the weather turns. By the way this crowd critiques the pics you best just post the trip and skip the pics....
  14. If the gf made it through that she's the best keeper of the day.....next trip she better get dibs on the first hit of the day.
  15. I'm thinking if we can't catch Browns on Cayuga then take the short drive to Ontario.
  16. What were water temps like out there? Hovering around 40 Sunday at Sodus
  17. Thanks for the great pictures. Hopefully he doesn't try to eat the fish. I had a client about 10 years ago who was an avid ice fisherman on the North end of Cayuga lake. Any pike or pickerel they caught he would promptly amputate the head and chew it like rawhide. Of course, the owner asks me during the appointment, "Is that ok if he eats the heads Doc?" I think my answer was sure if he chews it well, but don't let him kiss you good night until he brushes his teeth.....
  18. Nicely done. I figured someone was fishing out of Taughannock yesterday as the lake looked calm. Was there much traffic at the launch?
  19. Sorry to hear you lost a good friend. Just added this gal as a pup last Summer. She's always willing to go.
  20. After numerous hands on tutorials with Chowder the past several years, and spot on boat upgrades this Winter by L&M I felt ready to get the call up from Triple A Cayuga to Major League Ontario. Probably not the best morning to choose for the first effort as the weather wasn't pleasant, but I went in with minimal expectations and figured at least some reconnaissance around Sodus would be worthwhile for the future. Had my four legged first mate along but had to promise her an Apres Fishing Field Romp! It was nearly 8:30 by the time we passed the lighthouse, turned West, and set lines. Water temps in 15-25 FOW were steady between 39.5 and 40.5. Kept speeds mostly between 2.2&2.5. For over an hour had steady fires, 2 good fish and the rest small. Second half of the trip slowed down with only a couple little ones but the East wind kept building so pulled lines before 11 and headed in. Needless to say I was ecstatic with some action despite the conditions and considering it was my first at bat it was great to avoid the strike out.
  21. Doesn't get any better than that!! If your son is willing to fish in March wait until the warmer weather!!
  22. Go to Taughannock....your best bet
  23. Agreed!!
  24. Looking good. I wondered if you were there when I docked midday but didn't want to start yelling "Hey Doc", especially with the current climate in the country. I was pulling out the White Wellcraft with the dark green pickup around noon. Found salmon until the sun burned through then had a good time with this Northern. First one I've caught on Cayuga.
