  1. What does that shirt say??
  2. You made the comment the fish got going with the recreational boaters hitting the lake. Is the thought that the bait scatters so the predators become more active in pursuit? Ive heard others talk of getting silvers behind the motor due to the turbulence created. Same principle?
  3. One armed reeler looked to be getting it done. Did he let Dad have a turn??
  4. Human nature for too many these days. Just drive on the Thruway and watch the craziness. But we all have to remember, all of us have been on both ends of bad driving by car or boat. Follow the words of Rambo, "Just let it go". Then get back to some relaxation while fishing.
  5. I'm a trout troller so my answer to that is move a little deeper and start jigging for lakers!! All kidding aside, yesterday was tough as talked to a bass tournament fisherman at Deans in the afternoon. He said 110 boats in the tourney yesterday so lots of fishing pressure. As for the weeds, perhaps post on the bass section of this site for tips.
  6. Great morning to be on the water and the fishing was great too. Started off with a rush as the first 45 minutes could hardly keep 1 rigger and 1 dypsey in the water! A nice landlocked and lake trout were the highlights but a group of smaller rainbows provided great entertainment. Kept a steady pick of fish over the next few hours with spoons outfishing flasher/flies by a wide margin. Picked up a nice rainbow later in the morning and completed the Slam with this stout Brown. Tried to get off the water before 11 but gridlock at Deans made it closer to 12. Hoping the great weather and great fishing both continue.
  7. A bunch of bass fishermen launch at Deans. Some groups start before sunrise when having club tournaments but many launch throughout the morning and in the afternoon. They go all over the lake but I will say a few always tend to work from Deans North to Goose watch winery docks. If I was launching a kayak from Deans I would try that section first. Let us know how you make out
  8. Nice fish!
  9. Hit Deans for sunrise but clouds to the East spoiled the show. Slow pick of good sized lake trout this morning mostly hitting green flasher/fly on the dypsey diver. A couple took spoons off the rigger. Couldn't get a sniff off leadcore today. Ran out in the middle for a spell to see if anything setting up but pretty barren out there. Really didnt see bait pods at any depth today compared to the past few weeks. Thinking it's about time for the thermocline to start dictating the action somewhat. Was quitting time and while pulling in the big boards the rigger fires with a nice lake trout and when it was 20 feet behind the boat the dypsey sings with the only silver of the morning but what a beauty. The picture really doesn't do it justice as no backdrop. I really need to teach the dog to take pics for me. Shoutout to GoneFitchin as I had a white shirt on today so fish id was a little easier for me. Didn't get bothered much by the fleas as made a point of checking lines frequently. Weeds were practically nonexistent compared to last weekend and not much boat traffic either. A great morning to be out on the water
  10. Lost one end of the quick connection for my EZ Steer. Guess it didn't owe me anything as had it for over 10 years. Pictures are of the intact setup and the one missing the connector. Can anyone point me in the direction of where I can get a replacement?
  11. Agreed. If the action is steady the flea buildup isnt too bad. The weeds definitely became an issue this week. Sunday I had a dypsey rod fire and drag peeled out 20 feet. After a lengthy battle I managed to boat a personal best 5 pound plus weed pod
  12. Well she definitely deserves an assist for being an early riser! I hope you let her reel some in too.
  13. There you go. I'm thinking that is a nice looking rainbow as hints of pink on the side and freckles on the tail. Perhaps some others will chime in on what it is. See attached photo to compare the 3 Cayuga silvers. Trolling Cayuga right now is like a box of chocolates......couple weeks ago I brought in landlocks, the 3 types of trout and a pickerel in a pear tree! Just a super time to be out on the water.
  14. Good stuff. Enjoy the journey as they grow. The years pass and they will have other priorities, but they will always be up for the occasional fishing trip. My youngest just graduated high school so now all 3 will be spreading their wings but they still are up for an afternoon troll now and then.....sunrise trips don't work with them anymore.
  15. Looks like you have an excited pair of fishing partners. Love to see kids getting involved. Thanks for posting. I've been trying to figure out silvers on Cayuga for a couple years now. Leadcore 5, 7 and 10 have worked recently along with occasional rigger hits. If you are working the Gamblers and cowbells deep, try a sliding cheater and you might get a silver higher in the column
  16. Great looking catch there. If the lampreys get knocked down a few pegs the fish survival and growth rates will pick up markedly
  17. Great videos. That second fish seemed to be turning your kayak! BTW, those Penn reels are working great carrying 5 and 7 color cores.
  18. Two beautiful days on the water. Started Saturday launching from Deans before sunrise and ran South to Sheldrake and back. Rainbows and a decent landlocked were the action for the first hour taking spoons on the rigger and 5 color. Lakers slept in but by 7:30 they took over. Just North of Sheldrake was very hectic as the rigger down 60 with a glo frog kept firing. The 7 color had high fish honors with an 8lb 8oz Laker who was in a bad mood. Thanks to my family for the portable scale for Fathers Day. Now we can weigh the catch with ease. Sunday was a new day, new sunrise, still hungry fish. Headed North and found active fish in all varieties. Nothing huge today but steady pick of fun to catch, (and in some cases eat!) Fish. Riggers at 45 and 60 did most of the work while the 7 color sporting Steelie Dan made the landlocked and Rainbow happy. Off the water again at 10:30 with shorter lines at Deans. Had bonus water time both afternoons taking the kids and friends swimming. They wanted to fish a little this afternoon so we set some lines and they managed to land a couple Lakers in short order. The lake seems so healthy right now though a downer today was landing a laker with a lamprey attached. First lamprey I've seen in some time. Was happy to let that fish go after having made it lamprey free!!
  19. That's a long way down!! Jigging or dropping a rigger down that far?
  20. So does bait spend time down there.....probably not so bigger fish don't have much reason to be down there either. We need a poll of Cayuga and Seneca fisherman. What's your best guesstimate of the deepest you had a line that caught a fish? Ive had 600 copper out and a rigger down 110 which with blowback is probably less than 100. Anyone go below 120 and catch fish??
  21. After reading the article it makes me wonder if the 600 plus depths in parts of Seneca Lake never or rarely turnover......
  22. This came out in today's Fingerlakes Times and thought I would share. Always nice to read and learn about LOU Members. Here's to ya Steven!
  23. That's a beauty!!
  24. With this warm weather in the forecast the thermocline may really set up over the next couple weeks
