  1. That's why the fish are hungry, they know you have Jerky on board!!
  2. Beautiful fish!! This morning I threw different speeds, different colors of flies and spoons, moved from 100-250 fow and for the number of marks, very slow bite.....that said, when fishing solo and more things to do in a day, I typically try to have dry lines by 9 in the morning. Today I broke the rule and stayed out until 10. 😉
  3. Solo trip from Dean's Cove on a nice overcast early morning. Went South on the West side and marked fish hugging the bottom and not biting between 90 and 130, then they spread out some from 140-200 with most between 50 and 100 feet down. With so many targets I was hoping to be busy but just slow and steady mix of smaller salmon and lake trout hitting spoons off riggers. Sk8man, you should know I used your sliding cheater recipe with some good success. Best fish of the day was a 3 lb lake trout that hit a cheater. Thought it would be a salmon as fought long and hard all the way in. Just before quitting at 10 a couple Lakers finally went after flies. I suspect that the thermocline is setting up as before coming in I cruised out to 250-300 fow and many marks between 60 and 90 feet down. Nothing hit but by then the sun was out and the lake was getting flat so probably not ideal timing. Minimal flea trouble today.
  4. Looks like Seneca lake has fish after all. Over the next couple years with no lampreys it will be right back. Agreed the small ones taste the best! Just like deer, you can't eat the horns on a big buck and his meat is musty. Spring born or yearlings are the best eating!
  5. Andy, This too shall pass. At least no one was hurt. You and your family will pick up the pieces and come back stronger. Hang in there, Greg
  6. What a peaceful way to fish. I thought the only way to catch Lakers with a kayak is by jigging. I'm guessing you use the wind to help you control boat speed. Thanks for sharing the video. Greg
  7. That's a beauty!
  8. No worries on the slow response. I've found freezing lake trout really causes it to lose flavor and texture. You think the milk helps it freeze a little better? Greg
  9. That's awesome stuff!! Judging by the recent photos posted here, the next generation will have some great fishermen and women! 👍
  10. I guess I should have followed you this morning. Went North out of Dean's and from 6-7 could not find fish anywhere from 120-250. Scooted over South of Long Point and still few marks, even checked the middle in case thermocline setting up but nothing much. Came back across just North of Thirsty Owl and found some fish mostly in 160-180 fow but only the short salmon were interested. By far the slowest morning I've had this month. Just Wednesday North of Dean's was really active with mostly Lakers in 170-200 fow at 50-70 down but they vanished in 4 days. Won't be able to get out for a couple weeks now so hope you all keep finding them. 👍 I'll be reading to pick up some tips for mid-July! 😉
  11. I followed his instructions including the same coating. They were great. Might add some Old Bay seasoning to the coating next time to give it a slight kick. 😁
  12. Those fried fillets look great. Now you mentioned after the milk soak that you freeze them. Is that a short freeze so the meat sets up and holds together for frying? Have some soaking and ready to fry tonight. Thanks, Greg
  13. All good!! I'm enjoying the pics, especially the All-Star. I say this as I am in Philadelphia waiting for my 17 year old's next baseball game to start.
  14. Looks like you had a great crew to take fishing! 👍 Thanks for the pictures.
  15. I'm no expert, but some of the long time pros have always said fish are very spooky when the lake surface is like a mirror. A little chop gives us some natural stealth. The only thing in our favor this morning was the overcast sky. Even so, I kept dropping everything deeper and deeper. 3 fish hit the fly 100 feet down.
  16. Solo trip from Dean's Cove on a calm and peaceful lake this morning. Went North near the silos and back for a three hour trip. Marked the most fish a little deeper than the past couple weeks. 120-150 fow showed fish from 30 feet on down. Couldn't convince anything but a short salmon above 60 feet off the down riggers. The copper carrying a flasher/fly was the workhorse this morning, as it consistently fired, mostly with lake trout but also a couple 20 inch landlocks. I definitely had "the look" of NymphO's son a few times, especially after spending about 10 minutes working in a stout laker! Left that one and a few others in the water but kept 1 of the salmon and a small Laker for a nice grilled dinner tonight. Sorry no pics..... I don't do selfies. 😉
  17. Kind of like a flasher cut up and spread out. Thanks
  18. Sharing your trip with us!!
  19. Great looking fish. Looks like you have that lake figured out. Totally agree on the blessings we have to be able to fish and get the family involved. As parents we set the example, and having spent the past few years setting limits on social media and video game time for our kids, it's a challenge for sure. Thanks for
  20. I completely agree. My wife says I'm like an excited kid just getting ready to go fishing so with a fish on that's the look. That pic has my vote for best of the year.
  21. Sounds like an active trip thanks for the post. Hoping to hit the water out of Dean's Sunday morning if the weather isn't too bad. By the way, what is a grease trap?
  22. Those pictures of the kids are priceless. Enjoy the week!!
  23. I'm in the Fingerlakes of New York. Fishing Cayuga lake exclusively at this time.
  24. Wondering if any of you works with a shop that does a good job outfitiing reels with copper set ups. My first and only copper rig came all set up by ATomik a few years back but I don't see that they handle reels anymore. I would like to start building an arsenal of shorter setups to run off boards but I don't trust my abilities to connect leaders and backing to copper. Thanks, Greg
