My wife and I try to fish opening day together when possible. We had a beautiful morning with plenty of fish and fishermen.we kept a mixed limit and released several others including a big largemouth. Since I usually fish walleyes I don’t mind taking an occasional limit of bass. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Fished last night and caught two 23” and should have limited out. Lost one at the boat and another one shortly after it hit. I marked bait where I had all 4 hits and they were all in 32-34 fow. I tried casting and drifting with Keitech jigs but didn’t have any luck. Guess I need to spend more time. I was trolling up river and jigged drifting down river. I need to just jig a couple trips but it’s tough to break from a successful technique. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

First morning I tried the walleyes on the river. Hit this one on my first pass and nothing the rest of the morning but at least that’s a start. The selfie makes this fish look bigger than the 22” it actually was . Going to try the Keitech jigs next trip and try to expand my techniques from my usual trolling. I’ve caught them many different ways but haven’t found the consistency I get trolling. I know others do very well using blades and jigs so I guess I need to put in some more time to get that down. Speaking of time, with the early sunrises and late sunsets you can really beat yourself up fishing prime times! Afternoon naps are definitely the norm. I’ve eaten many and they are just about like bluegill. Great fish for kids as they are very cooperative and bite on just about anything they can fit in their mouth. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Fished with a fly rod with poppers on the edge of the weed and over top of them. It’s a fun way to catch them as they slurp up you’re the popper. Not a hot bite but they seem to be in scattered little schools. I kept 13 last evening and about the same this morning. Not huge ones but still got a pound of fillets both days. Hit Black River Bay across from Sackets this morning. We were targeting walleyes but no success. There were about 10 boats working water from 20-55 fow and we didn’t see a net moved. We did manage 3 pike and kept the two largest. Had a rip on another rod but we dropped it. Nothing on the riggers and the lead cores were most productive today. All fish came off boards.
