    Last year was the best fishing early in the season that I have witnessed. Generally I find that things pick up and become much more predictable latter in June and in July. With high water and colder water temperatures things should only improve. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

    Captain Tom Ewing is a great guy and knowledgeable of the area. He's been at it a long time and can likely put you on both the warm and cold water species you mentioned depending on weather and water temperatures. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

    I think as long as you stick to the hook point restictions per line you are ok. I have a friend from Ottawa that picked a couple up last year after fishing with me and uses them successfully on the river. They use Victrola rigs, etc. on the Finger Lakes so don't see any issues. Different than jug fishing and trot lines which I don't believe are legal. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

    Well said Prof T. Bottom line is it takes a great deal of time and experimentation to figure out techniques that work on various locations. Probably not going to be highly successful if you just run out for a night or a weekend. I've put in years of experimenting to become consistent on the SLR and it still isn't easy. Need to be observant and try different approaches to find out what works. Boat control in the current is very key. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

    We use Nexus cards when duck hunting. General it is fairly easy to call in particularly when you've done it a few times as they seem to have your information on hand. Duck hunting we do anchor or make land so rules are different. We have had some instances when the person taking our call didn't seem to know how the system was suppose to work so we hung up, called again and talked to a different agent with no difficulty. I know they are trying to make this easier for boaters and fisherman but I don't believe anything has changed yet. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

    Justin, Prof T and I do things slightly differently in our boat control but we can both adapt to fish in each other's boat and still be successful. Similar techniques but slightly different way of maintaining boat control which is key. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

    Let's hope the worst is over. I agree that the positive spin on the high water is the possibility of a great spawn for many species, particularly the northern pike which have dwindle significantly in the last 40 years. I also warn people of much debris floating in both the lake and the river. Some big stuff that could do significant damage to a boat. Go slow and don't throw a wake!     Fishing off my brothers 17' Whaler. Only have to run about a half mile from his mooring to a rock pile off the old canal. Catching them on medium spinning rods using jigs and plastic and yes they can pull. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
