  1. We also need to be cautious about depending on government agencies to regulate our resources. If anyone is interested in a fascinating read on the history behind the many invasive species in our Great Lakes, I suggest you read Pandora's Locks. It documents the sad story of how the Seaway, Welland Canal, and Erie Canal contributed to one of the greatest man produced ecological disaster of all time. Sadly, there was data warning the agencies of the problems with ship's ballast that was ignored. I guess we are still blessed to have the fisheries that are available today.

    Shoals

We caught 13 out there one day several years ago and could only keep 3 as all were above the slot.
  3. Lots to think about and interesting dialogue. Wish there was some river walleye population data to examine.
  4. I agree with.Justin. I never try to release those deep caught walleyes. Most of the ones I catch at night aren't real deep and can easily be released. That said, those that are released at least have a chance to survive but none kept have any chance. It's certainly a shame to waste a nice fish that will die.
  5. June was good but it has slowed down now. Still haven't been skunked this year. Have to see what August brings.
  6. I'll also bet some are being sold illegally from NY waters. $ makes some individuals loose their conscience.

    SLR Wally

    Nice fish Rayfish
  8. Way to go Landshark. Still need to get you up for a night fish.
  9. The Bay of Quinte has a 4 fish limit. Only one can be over 25 inches or so. I believe that allows plenty for the table but protect some of the mature spawners. Perhaps a three fish limit with a slot limit ( perhaps 18-26" with one allowed over 26") I would like to see some data on the historic SLR walleye population but after talking to DEC fisheries I'm not sure they have much. It's better to error on the conservative side than try to react after the population has dwindled. Long term sustainability seems to be what we all support.
  10. Was wondering if others think we should take measures to protect the great walleye fishery we have here on the river. I have seen the fishing pressure increase over the years and think perhaps a slot limit should be set similar to Canada. Any thought?
  11. Canadian walleyes are also sold at the Big M in Alexandria Bay for a similar price. Prof T and I have been putting some valuable fillets in our freezers. Good thing they aren't sold from NY waters. I'm sure greed would cause populations to fall rapidly.
  12. Also heard of several found dead.
  13. Looks like there might be another problem as several have been found dead.
  14. Might even try deeper during daylight hours ( night is better).Caught some in 75 fow. Also Poker run in A Bay will bring out the fast boat crowd. Going to be a busy hot weekend. Jigging spoons and bucktails also work as do worm harnesses.
  15. Great night
  16. Way to go Justin. I took a walleye break and hit the lake today. 3 small salmon and 3 lakers and lost a couple more.
  17. Nice fish and thanks for the post.
  18. Nice
  19. Hope it isn't another musky die off.
  20. Sounds like perfect trip.
  21. Did the luck pay off with fish?
  22. Perhaps Charity or Pigeon Island but may be a touch early.
  23. Fished the night shift. Scratched out a limit for All from Mississippi. His first eyes ever.
  24. Nice fish border. I have on several several occasions seen zebras in walleyes stomachs and I assumed they were from undigested from gobies.
  25. My nieces soccer coach gave their team an assignment to catch a fish with a team mate over the summer. Yesterday we caught some bass and got them up early for some eyes this morning. Believe they should have a team fish fry!
