Hit them hard this morning fishing solo. Doubled on first pass and took a fish on nest 5 passes. Released 4 that were all between 20-22". The three I kept were 28"' 24" and 23".
  2. I have a char broil oil less turkey fryer with a kabob kit. Prof T's post got me to try walleye and some goose!
  3. I do similar with chunks of venison, goose, or duck breast with a sliced water chestnut in the center for crunch. Marinate in teriyaki for a few hours and grill till still rare inside. Non- game eaters gobble them. Going to try with the walleye chunks and cheeks.
  4. No question about it . Don't leave fish to find fish but keep looking till you find them. In my opinion patients may be the most overrated quality in a good fisherman. If it isn't working you need to change up. I generally only give a spot two or three passes before moving on. That said I may return to a spot a couple hours latter and check it again.
  5. It should only improve. Seems to be spotty right now. Hit them good one night and slow another. Need to hit different spots and look for the bait. Good luck.

Just have that lure and my size 14 feet for size reference. The secret is to put in the time and develop your technique. It's not easy for people trying to get started. There is a long learning curve and the river can eat a lot of gear.

Hit them early this morning fishing solo.
  8. Nice catch
  9. Great looking gill
  10. I released them this time but generally keep some as they are tasty. I have a Gheenoe with a 6 hp that I use on the Indian River Lakes for my low tech fishing.
  11. Love low tech pan fishing.
  12. Fished an hour on an Indian River lake this evening. Caught about 15 nice ones that I release along with a half dozen small bass and some rock bass Not much more fun than catching them on a fly rod.
  13. Fished Chaumont today. Marked some bait but no walleyes or pike today. Caught 4 drum, a perch, a silver bass , a pickerel, and a few smallmouths. Folks I took enjoyed the drums fight and they were the biggest fish they had ever caught but not what I was looking for. Guess it's back to the SLR for me.

Certainly want to be cautious out there at night. I fish solo a great deal in the early morning. Very little traffic at that time but still things can happen. Knowledge of the river is vital. Get to know it well in the day and learn a few spots and gradually expand your area. Better know a small area you fish intimately and work it effectively than fish large area without much knowledge. It would be very tough without good electronics.

I agree Prof T we had them nailed last night.
  17. Better days are definitely ahead but all things considered there are still nice fish to be had if you put in the time. Need to search more than mid summer.
  18. Added this walleye for her this morning

Took a quick trip this morning and got rained. My brother and his wife over slept so only fished from 5:00-7:00. Only caught one but it was a 28". My brother hooked it and his wife landed it. Not bad she also shot a turkey yesterday so I'm happy I could put her on her first turkey and a quality walleye.
  21. Ended my season doubling up with my sister in law. This was her first bird ever so it was special.

Wow, iif Prof T, Trapper, and Roybee got shut out it must be a tough bite. From the ones I got a couple days ago I think they may be loaded up with gobies. I'll be hitting it this weekend.
