  1. Here are a few walleye photos. Why are photos turned various directions?
  2. The smallmouth was a shade over 22" but had super girth. I've actually boated longer ones but never one that approached it's mass. It was extremely dark in color and did look like a grouper or big black sea bass. One more year and it may have overtaken the state record of 8.4 lbs. I guess the smallies really are thriving on the gobies!
  3. Caught it suspended about 25 down in 45 fow.
  4. I spent an incredible day on Lake Ontario with Kelly Page and Pete Stratton. We were trolling deep diving cranks off boards. Fished from 7:00-2:00 and went 13 for 15 with two lost behind the boat. Fish ranged from 6.5 to 10.5 pounds and we also caught a 7.5 pound smallmouth ( the largest I've ever seen boated) We kept three and release ten. We had 3 doubles and ended the day with a quad although we landed the first before the forth one hit. We caught them on TD 11, Reef Runners, and Trolls To in a variety of colors and no I'm not going to share the location as I've been sworn to secrecy. I'll post more photo but here is a hog of a smallmouth.
  5. I'm headed to Kingston Ontario in the morning with friends to hit the big walleyes on the shoals. I'll let you know how we make out.
  6. I've got around 200 on a hay field and can't wait till the first.
  7. Justin , Thanks for the information. I'll have to give them a try sometime. I've seen the surface swirls on schools of bluegills and thought they were likely tigers on the feed. They are a really pretty fish!
  8. Mr. Walleye joined me for an evening crappie fish and we hit them pretty well again.
  9. Nice fish Justin, I have a small lake about a mile from my home that has tigers in it . Since there is a 10hp limit on the launch I seldom fish it as I would have to use my Gheenoe with a six hp. I have caught a few casting f18 Rapala and through the ice ( I caught two small ones through the ice last winter). Maximum depth is about 35 feet and it's basically a bowl with a few weed beds stretching out to 15 feet. What trolling strategy would you suggest? Send me a pm if you want.
  10. Canada customs number is 888-226-7277. As I understand as long as you don't anchor or go to shore you can report in by phone. US customs 888-523-2628. You will need names, birthdays, and perhaps passport numbers for all in the boat as well as boat registration numbers.
  11. Only caught one this morning but it was a good one. I got it off the rigger down 32'.
  12. I often make a troll up river and then drift down river jigging.
  13. Fish cakes are great with just about any fish. I have used browns or salmon and people love them. I use same basic recipe sited above and you can use leftover cooked fish too.
  14. Hit the crappies again this evening with the same results. Another nice limit.
  15. Gator, I sure am blessed to live in a great area for outdoor enthusiasts and being retired am able to take full advantage of it. With Lake Ontario, the St Lawrence River, the Indian River Lakes, the Salmon River, the Adirondacks, and the Bay of Quinte all within an hour and a half drive I have world class potential for many species of fish and game. Having lived here for nearly forty years, I've fortunately mastered many of the techniques for a successful outing. Nice to hear that your daughter is interested in sharing time with you.
  16. I made a quick evening run to an Indian River Lake last night to try the crappies. I found a bunch off a weed bank in about 12 fow and caught one nearly every cast. All were caught on jigs and Powerbait minnows on a 1/16 jig head most hit it on the fall. Caught all 25 in around a half hour and they were still pounding when I left.
  17. All the fish eating talk got me to try the crappies in a local lake last evening. I limited out in about an hour! I posted a photo and details under panfish site.
  18. From what I observed I don't think it dives a great deal deeper than TD 11.
  19. I caught a couple large pickerel ice fishing this winter at Henderson. When I filleted them I was expecting them to be like a pike but I too found they are different in bone structure. That said, when I cooked up a batch of fish, my wife rated them ahead of everything else. Once you learn how to fillet pike they are also great fish to eat. Handled correctly, cleaned correctly and cooked correctly nearly everything that I keep is delicious.
  20. Just got the photo and that same Live Target took a walleye and a big smallmouth for me one morning .
  21. I don't know if you can go to big. I caught one on that same lure earlier this year and the 900 series Reef runners are a mouthful but we've taken some hogs on them. Your lure photo didn't come through for me.
  22. The halibut I brought back from Alaska is hard to beat but the Black Sea bass from Cape Cod are also very good. I give away a great of filleted fish and often have fish fries at our church. Most people can't tell the difference between any of it when it's cut into fingers, bread and fried! Sometimes I keep them separated and poll the eaters to see which they liked best. In my opinion perch are tough to beat!
  23. I'm currently on grandson wait so until he is born things will be day to day on the river. Also the salmon are calling and early goose season is rapidly approaching. The Lake O shoal bite should be picking up and late fall at Quinte is truly trophy time.
  24. On the SLR: Bombers, Smithwicks off riggers, Deep Diving Tail Dancer 11 and Reef runners. Bay of Quinte/ Lake Ontario: TD11, Deep diving Reef Runner, 900 series Reef Runner and F18 Rapala Ice fishing - jigging spoon (Deadly Dick, Castmaster), Rapalla jig tipped with minnows Big baits= big walleyes 10 lb +
