  1. Hi, I went out friday for awhile ,fished the afternoon. Most of the fish were at the 130-160 mark down about 100. I had five on ,boated zip.Well it was a shake down trip checking my new depth raider. It worked ok under 100 ft. but shut off when it went deeper. I was realy suprised when it said i was only going 1.5 ,it seemed more like 2.5 at the surface. I was trolling east. All the hits were at 105-110.Magnum slamers ,black widow and blue dolphin. No hits on the spin doctors or flys.T o make it more difficult my paper graph died, broken belt. It was a sitex and that belt was orginal after all these years.Had to rely on my lowrance flasher for depth and picture. Well hope to out later today if the lake lays down. I ended out off boulder and took a bouncey ride back to port. One good thing was trolled 4 hours and used maybe 2 gallons on the kicker and maybe four on the 120. Good luck sunday, looks like a good day to fish.
  2. Hi, Last year I did better than in many years on small mouth . It takes awhile to find them but they are around.Last year I found them on dropoffs mostlyand caught many using gobies caught for bait.Any goby seemed to work as long it wasnt to large. Also I did use softahells and worms fished about 2 ft. off the bottom. One thing I hardly ever caught a undersize small mouth ,most were over 14 inches and pretty healthy. The big thing that gave me confidence was a report form a friendly local dive team that clued me in on the bass. They said they even saw some schools of small bass along with the bigger fish. They saw quite a few walleye also. I also incorporated a camera along with a good garmin gps sounder. Hope to be back at um this week
  3. Hi, Last year I heard about duraguard horse fly spray. It worked pretty good last year.I found it at countrymax in Ontario.
  4. Sounds like what happened in Lake erie last year.Hope it clears up for you guys. I havn't heard much about it around sodus yet.
  5. Nick, I can help out.I could take a couple of guys out and also help with the meal. Ill ask my sons if they can help mate the boat Served 68-69 nam. John
  6. That was a excellent report.Us solo fishermen realy have some good stories to tell. I fished solo alot last summer and sort of got used to it.I caught my share of kings alone and didn't lose many. Many good memories. I do wish though that the LOC derby would reconsider allowing solo fisherman to enter their catch.
  7. Hi, I had a idea about forming a trout and salmon club simular to the local bass clubs. The clubs have what is called a non-boater so not having a boat would be a problem. Having a trout and salmon boat for oneself is a expensive hobby.Costs could somehow be shared and also boats could be used to bring in young new fishermen and women. My son is runing the rochester bass club this year so when he gets back I'll have more background info. Other input would be welcome.
  8. Excellent report. The best part is you did so well solo.I"ll remeber that when I get out there soon. Im glad to here the kings are still around hughes and pultneyville. In years past there were always at least six boats in that area. Caught many many big fsh. I just finished putting together my depth raider. Its on a penn 620 so I can use it on either boat. Now its the decesion between the searay or the sea nymph. Anyone interested in teaming up ,let me know.
  9. The professional bass tournaments now use oxygenated water in their tournaments.Regular fish well water usualy hold about 4ppm of oxygen. The kits now avalable supercharge the holding tanks with pure oxygen.to 15 ppm. The fish are also transported in oxygenated holding bags till weight in. After the weight in the fish are kept in a central holding tank (15ppm oxygen) till ready to release.Even then the fish are released in a high oxygen discharge. This results in a 100% survival for bass released held under these guidelines. Maybe this method could also adapted for trout and salmon if needed.
  10. HSi I just watched this video on you tube. They mentioned two controls now in the works. One is a dead bacteria and a parasite that feeds only on the mussells and causes death Hope they work. Silent invaders Season 1.quagga and zebra mussell control
  11. Hi, i got a good boat at Bow and stern in north tonawanda.Very good service and good prices. they are the ones to talk to about a aluminum boat.I got a older seanymph from them to replace my old fiberglass boat. It served me for over twenty years . I stripped it and put it all on the seanymph. The 195 gls seanymph is very popular boat up here in sodus.Very roomy for lake fishing and capable for rough water.
  12. can't wait till I fish that area this spring and summer.great report
  13. My son and grandson fished sodus on sunday and did well with 75 keepers over 9 inches.Caught alot of large bluegill also.Green and chartuse 1/64 gig. Pultneyville bear creek also is very good now for large perch.Saw some huge pike in the lagoon today.
  14. Thanks for the post guys. Alot of us have to drive pretty far so knowing whats going on realy helps.Yep wegmans does seem practical when it ll cost you fifty dollars for gas.The good old days of catching buckets off sodus are long gone here.
  15. Ive fished that area since the eighties. Always had good luck with alphena diamonds (silver blue or green)and andy reekers fished just off the bottom on downriggers. Alot of the guys now just use spoons even in the spring.
  16. went to sodus instead this weeken, truck was down for repair. Sodus was slow with fifty keepers all spawning males taken in 5 to 2 ft. of water around the islands.Caught some large bass and alot of bluegills on small jigs and articficals ,some caught on minnows.
  17. I have owned the boat for two years. Motor ran well ,new starter.Motor has 1300 hours.Alot of mercrusers run 4500 before overhaul.Boat sleeps four, kitchen, bathroom, hotwater, wash down pump.Gas snifer.Garmin 476 gps sounder.Kingfish speed and temp.Clean interior.Drive completly gone over 2009.new bellows gimball,SST prop and spare.Electric anchor.Comes with penn 620(2) or extra cost cannon electrics !991 ez loader trailer, new tires 2010.
  18. Hi, I have a 19 gls sea nymph outboard. that has a canvas .It is two years old .Comes complete with side curtains and back cover.. Paid 6oo. for it. Cover is a standard height.About 4 ft. high from floor. $300.00 b/o
  19. I called chaumont hardware and was told before the cold spell ,many many big perch were taken by the bridge in chaumot. The perch are still there and havny spawned yet so the next warm up should bring some good fishing.I plan on going sunday for a few days.I also heard eel bay and kring point have been good. Anywhere you find the baitfish the perch will be there. Last fall the perfch fishing at sodus was the best in many years. I went out about a dozen times and took our limit in usally less than two hours.Saw very few entries here on that good fishing even with the many boats there. Good fishing guys ,the perch are alot better eating than the browns.
  20. Hi, I heard on another site that the perch fishing is pretty good at chaumont Bay area. Anyone have any information on this. Its going to be a toss up between lake erie or chaumont bay area Thanks
  21. 22. Very Nice boat for the lake. I have a older model myself with a 120 evinrude and a 9.9 alot of boat and very stable on the lake.
  23. Hi, I use to jiggwith suttons on a drop sinker. Had prety good luck with lakers and even got a few kings.Finding the bait schools and staying over them paid off. In the spring I usualy fish the creek mouths and either anchor or drift if light winds and cast with krocs or cleos in the productive water. This method produced alot more fish and a lower gas bill..My searay was good for that in I had all the comforts when I was out on the lake. Most of the traffic was further down by the plant so I didn,t disturb any trollers
