  1. Early season on Cayuga.......anything silver.........green with black spots or stripes....Later big (0) luhr-jensen dodgers ( chrome) with white or green flies...I like the mooselock thinfish for cheaters ( bows and LLs)......but can't find them anymore...Michigan stingers ( black spots ) are also fish catchers for me ...Can't wait till spring'''''been a long winter....70s all week here...
  2. Hey there Zeke.....Is that Gary"s place...........If not...where in relation to you and Cyn???...Hope you and Cyn are all recuperated from the wheel surgeries
  3. Bear is usually open after work every day......5:30---6:00
  4. My son and I launched at Treman and motored right up to Crowbar...From there north......... bait pods and fish from 75 to 90 feet down stayed continuously across the screen........We caught and released at least 15 lakers over 8 lbs....My 15 year old grandson had one on for about 15 minutes and kept telling me it was hooked into a log or floating branch.........I set the hook myself before handing him the rod......so knew better........finally my son took the rod and tightened the drag hoping to bring it in.............He started him coming but the line ( 14 lb. ) florocarbon broke and we supposedly lost him......About 75 ft. back that fish was flopping around on top so I circled back and my son netted it...........It had the sutton 72 in its lip and a big lamphery hooked on the side.....It was a huge female full of spawn and rather than bring it in the boat.........my son messed with it for several minutes before she finally took off straight down....Every fish we caught was a fat female and we were wondering if they were schooling up to spawn.....We were gonna ask Zeke and Cyn when we got back up here at the park........but they were already gone.....I have fished lake trout for 45 years and never had a day like this.......It was insane......big fish and big numbers.....8 am till 1pm.....so it wasn't prime fishing time.....Any thoughts about trout schooling like the kings do before spawning
  5. Was at Deans Cove yesterday from 2 pm till dark...The last 2 hours were outstanding...140 fow lakers at 100 .........rainbows at 50. That was on the west side south of Borroughs.....
  6. Congrats....what a hog....Thanx for pics and report
  7. Lead core best for me........88..38..71..I like silver on cloudy days...silver-gold on sunny days. Hammered works best for me...I like the single hooks because they dont hook a lot of bottom junk and fish are easier to release. I am convinced that the biggest lakers are right on the bottom and slower is better...One of the biggest fish I ever caught was on a silver hammered 98 ( little bigger ) than 88...Two years ago I got a 10 lb. brown off the boy scout camp on a 37 which is odd shaped and I had painted it purple-green stripes....
  8. My son and I fished Deans Cove north both days and had GREAT luck both days from about 6 am till noon........boated 14 nice lakers and a 4 lb. LL.....biggest trout 7.5...Suttons and stingers proved best lures......Bite was fast and furious the first hour each day .....then had to work.. ...Wind was strong Sat. but Sunday was nice.......We noticed that the lakers seemed more lively and full of fight than usual......Maybe the 44 degree water
  9. My son doubles over laughing whenever I drag some monstosity lure on the boat....then takes great pleasure in sharing the story ( with some exageration ) with his fishing buddies.... they all guffaw and split a gut as my son goes on and with his half truths Guess who over the years catches the biggest Lake Trout....( Hint ) That would be me
  10. Smittie....Biggest lakers are always on the bottom........Get some thin flutter Sutton lures...I like 88s...You can still get 200 yard spools of lead core at Cabelas.....Make sure you have single hook on your lure and let it out so it bumps the bottom....1.5 to 1.8 mphwill get you about 1 to 6 or 7...In other words.....In 60 feet of water...you will need 360 to 420 feet of line out...or like Turp said.....12 to 14 colors...200 yard lead core runs out 10 colors then does the same 10 colors again.......TRUST me....when nobody catches fish in the dog days of summer.....This method will work..
  11. Zeke...Check out that Gulf on north side of Interlaken....I ordered new tires for the boat trailer ......and after installation, put $100 of gas in the boat.......It was non ehtenol.........but that was in summer of 07.......Im leaving here on the 21st...That will give me a week to get her seaworthy and a day at Otsego in Cooperstown to check her out and maybe get lucky with some early browns...May 1 st I can get in my summer digs....Its been a looooooong winter........Fred
  12. What power unit and outdrive.....what beam...what will be left on boat
  13. Good solid fishing machine..........we have a 1988 245 with a v8............hard top makes it an all weather boat...........great on rough water
  14. What is the beam???What engine???What make is trailer and is it roller or bunk? Is it IO and if so what make???
  15. Time for those of us who pay the bills to unite and take our lakes and our country back....One more month......Im out of here and headed north. I love upstate NY because of the great fishing and breathable air........but cannot afford to be a permanent resident because of the absurd taxes...Also--how do those tax and spend liberals get elected up there???Everyone I come in contact with ..either on this site or those I meet on the lake actually work for a living and are totally against the government running every aspect of our lives...
  16. pretty rig........whats the beam(width)?....Trailer??
  17. I was born and raised in upstate NY and worked and paid taxes every week from....June 1957 untill April 1976....Was laid off when the state taxed my company out of the state to ugh.NJ....Rather than live down in the swamps of Jersey I moved down here to Houston and went to work 3 days after getting here and NEVER got laid off. The difference between Texas and New York are the liberal politicians (carpetbaggers RFK and Hill the pill) who buy votes from the lazies who wont work with tax money from folks that do work.....Wake up NY....vote all the liberals out of office before ALL the jobs are taxed out of state to pay for all the give away programs...Get some politicians in there who will lower corporate taxes so the jobs come back...My fishing license went from $40 to $70 last Oct....My park sticker went from $59 to $65 last year.Im only one person.....but thousands of fishermen also paid these same hikes....Where is all that money????? Closing the parks is insane.............lease them out .....there are lots of jobs gone with the closings.....plus local businesses near the parks will suffer from lack of traffic....we dont have all problems here in Texas that NY has because folks here actually work for what they have and we dont allow liberal politicians in office to steal taxpayers money and redistribute it those who think they are owed a living
  18. WOW......pretty fish..6 lb. test and no net.......amazing!!!!!!!!lol......fish is almost as big as your partner...Pics like this make me want to sell out down here and move to NY full time instead of the 6 months Im there now.....biggest brown I ever caught was right off the Boy Scout Camp.....Some real hogs in there....6 weeks more and I will be up there...Thanks everyone for all the posts............makes my winter go faster
  19. Interesting article....didnt see any downriggers..but thought I saw copper rig..........Also that crab fisherman smoker Phil Harris died today from stroke he suffered...We run a small heater on our trophy early in season or last trip out in fall....After that last trip when its 23 degrees at daylite I chicken out and go strait from the lake to the shop and get it winterized....Two days later Im headed south....This time of year he could be flatlining.
  20. Hey jpainting......my 245 Trophy has 3 bilge pumps and none would work one time....Even tho they are all auto individually.........they all work together off manuel switch...problem was they all were hooked to same ground wire and that wire was corroded at a junction and no power gettin thru....Also first time out a few years we almost sunk it because intake for washdown pump was unhooked at the pump when winterized and we neglected to reattach it before went out. first time in the spring...Im paranoid about leaks especially on this old boat........so many flex hoses....Now I take a lot of time at launch first time in the water checking out everything. good luck
  21. td50......nice rig......I have a 1988 24.5 looks just like yours..Mine had been neglected horribly by previous owner but thanks to Gene Moore and a lot of $$$$ its in good shape now.. The hard top is great....but takes some getting used to going down in there from outside....a lot of bumps on my noggin.
  22. Just for residents???// For years Iv e spent 6 months a year living 8 miles north of Ithaca..Got a 24.5 Trophy..looks like Splitshots only has step on back..Just for starters my non res. license went from $40 to $70 last Oct..Locals like Bears in Tburg and Gene Moore share in the thousands I contribute to the local and state economy....Why do I travel 1750 miles every year to pay New Yorks inflated taxes and prices....because NY offers some of the best trout and salmon fishing in the country....Three rods would help on those slo days....Also I dont deplete the population.because I never keep a fish unless Its hurt or a big one in a derby.........but I have thousands of pictures to show and gloat to my bass fishing buddies here at home.
