  1. Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Elliot.
  2. Any organization, yacht club, sportsmans group, home owners assoc, no matter how large or small, please continue to forward emails to: [email protected] This HORROR remains a very real possibility. Thank You.
  3. The people have spoken. Now lets finish the job. Some of us up here are going to make every effort to get more people registered and out to vote. Perhaps there is hope for NYS and the USA afterall.
  4. Thanks to all who took the time to write an email. It has made a difference, and we are hopeful. I had a conversation with David Godfrey yesterday, and he would still welcome well crafted letters from groups and organizations. Whether nearby residents or visitors to Lake Ontario, he stated that this would still be useful in the fight. As some of you know, we are up against an agenda of perception. Money flying around for "green projects" and people will fight to grab it, regardless of the long term consequences.
  5. This has been a hot topic amongst guys repowering or exploring repowering. I'm pretty sure the Cold Steel guys rely only on various sized bags, and they have 8.1 Crusaders. I also know that in a new application, asking for trannys with trolling valves even with the new generation gas engines is a growing concept.
  6. That looks like a blast! One question Bob, how do you finish ahead of Paul despite scoring exactly the same? Giving up sooner, or later, gains you a higher placing? LOL! Give Butch Cooley congrats for me.
  7. Voting until 9pm tonight, and I watched people excited to take part. Is there enough outcry to turn this great state around?
  8. Very sorry to hear. They don't belong anywhere IN the Great Lakes. Please keep emails coming. Deadline tmw, Sept 15th for emails. That deadline was just announced a couple days ago. Underhanded!!!
  9. Thanks guys, we have until tomorrow to be heard on this, and thwart the most serious threat yet. Once they go in ANYWHERE in the lake, the precedent will be set. Keep those emails coming.
  10. I have been testing a couple of the new ones for about 3 weeks. Very responsibly, Scotty does not want to hype them until they are sure they are perfect. I thought the original Scottys were the best in an overall solid industry. We've beat on them all, and the Scottys are the best. So far, I have had zero problems with the new ones, and the new rod holder design is a vast improvement and looks better too. I love the "free fall" feature of all Scottys, and have no problems with tangles. If you have a crowded set, I would "feather" the drop by slowing the drop by moving the brake. My least favorite feature of the older ones was the counters for me as well, but this has been addressed. The new digital counters will be lit up by a 5yr battery. Time will tell how they will hold up. All things considered, the older ones are still great if you find a deal on used or new ones. No time table on when the new model will be approved for sale, but I'm sure it will be by next season.
  11. Just found out there has only been approx 100 emails sent since this was posted. Please realize, even if you never boat, fish, or visit the Niagara county area of Lake Ontario, if they become established here they will be added to and spread. Of course, the deadline to be heard and to get an email in opposing this atrocity has been moved up to wed, Sept 15. Once again, email legislator David Godfrey [email protected] ASAP!!! Tell everyone! Thank you.
  12. Voting in the primary, tomorrow Sept 14th, is vital to having a chance to prevent being subjected to the "status quo". The DEC is being bled dry. Right here in region 9 there will be 3 biologists leaving that will not be replaced. If not for some dedicated people like Jana Lantry and Mike Connerton(DEC), volunteering their time, there would be little census work being conducted. Voting for Carl Paladino in the Republican primary gives him a shot.
  13. Please keep the emails coming, the proponents aren't distracted by wonderful, fulfilling, rewarding outdoor pursuits.
  14. They can be very finicky, as they are often in warm water, and it gets worse as the month goes on. The good news is, they often group up near river mouths, so the locating part of the game is much simpler.
  15. Josh, Everyones definition of "the Bar" is different. It is 18miles from Olcott to the Niagara river mouth, but 10 to 14 to the eastern end of the structure, depending on depth. Good Luck!
  16. Slimy, We shot in Thurs because I ran two trips that day. As many have posted, absolutely incredible Thurs and Fri. Fri we had 3 30+LB fish. If we get 2 more it will break our record from 1989. On Fri, we shot in so my brother who is in a wheelchair wouldn't have to endure the storm that ripped through. As I sit here waiting for the NFL season to kick-off, the wind is ripping like it will never stop here in Olcott, although they are calling for a better day tomorrow.
  17. Although he is very busy this time of year, Roger Lacino of Power-rite marine located just east of Lewiston has done this type of work for me and others. The sooner the better, or perhaps over winter as his winterizing schedule is insane in Oct. He is on Myers Hill rd and number is 716--731--1486. Good Luck.
  18. The males seem to darken earlier than the females. There seems to be a connection between spending time in and acclimating to warmer water and their darker coloration. The best theory I have heard from biologists is mother nature converts them from the silver, which hides them best from their prey in open water, to the darker coloration to conceal them from their river predators like bears and birds of prey.
  19. Hi Guys, really respect that you are excited to get up here without the added draw of a derby/tournament. Some of the best fishing in this area is after Labor day, problem is, I do not remember having 2 back to back major blows that we are experiencing now. I wish I could give you more of a heads up but we will be out Fri and see what we have to work with. Temp was driven down yet the fish here were not eager to shoot upstream. They were still on a major feed, and the females were primarily silver fish. Keep in mind that it is all relative, what was cool water last week may not be available, and they may adjust to and feed in water that is much warmer. The bite at the bar was so insane last week I may take my 6 man crew down there, but there should be a fair amount of stagers right out front of Olcott. All applications were working, and yes plugs were coming on, but by far the best remains Spin Doctors with Atomik flies attached. Depending on the angle of the wind tonight we may have cool water in 60', or on the bottom in 140'. Best of luck to you, and go get your personal best Kings, "for the love of the game".
  20. We have caught many of them the last two weeks both off Olcott, and on the bar. They have all had their adipose clipped and were stocked.
  21. This ticket is hard to read, but it is one of the best, most organized raffles around. It includes a spaghetti dinner well put-on by the Ladies auxillary with the purchase of your ticket. The prizes include several cash payouts, a deluxe four wheeler, and quality shotguns, rifles and muzzleloaders. Call dave at LaRocks if you don't want to make the drive twice and arrange to get your tickets that day.
  22. Pete, its hard to say if an excess amount mature early if we will feel it later on when that class should mature. Lets hope its because we had super survival of that year class and it will flow through the "pipeline" with big numbers back in a couple years.
  23. Making memories is what this fishery is all about. Congrats!!!
