  1. Great news! Heading that way in just 12 more days.
  2. I'm sitting on the screen porch listening to the rain on the tin roof during our last flounder trip of the year because of Hurricane Arthur. No fishing today do I'm thinking about our trip to the Oak in two weeks. We have had a pretty good season and got the kids some flat fish. Even the old man got in on a little of the action Now we are anticipating the rest of summer on Lake O. See you soon. 3. I travel from the Mason-Dixon line. Takes about 8 hours to bring the green Sportcraft 252 the nearly 400 miles but when she is in the slip the trip is down to just a little over 6 hours. We'll be bringing her up in just 16 more days, but who's counting? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app Age and treachery will always overcome youth and enthusiasm.
  4. Another vote for Lakeview. They also have freezer space.

    Oops

Many years ago my dad was walking home from the lake - about 7 miles - on a Sunday morning. A couple of guys stopped in a pickup and said, "Climb in - we're headed to town to call the sheriff. Some idiot sunk his truck in the lake and all you can see is a little red ball on the end of his antenna. We think he might have drowned." Dad said, "Thanks for the ride, but don't call the sheriff. I'm the idiot." Ruined a brand new 1963 bright red F-100.

  7. I think your problem may be galvanic corrosion from contact of dissimilar metals. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app Age and treachery will always overcome youth and enthusiasm.
  8. Just put a new 350 in the Sportcraft last season and it idles at around 800 rpm. It is a factory new model. Depending on current we may run her at up to 1200 rpm just to maintain lure speed based on the readings we get from our Subtroll - and that's without bags or buckets.
  9. A lot of times the "oil" you see "leaking" from the exhaust of an outboard is just residual gunk from the exhaust and not lower unit oil. It is probably nothing to worry about.

  11. When I went to the immediate care center with only one hook in my finger the doc took look and said "OH YEAH!"
  12. When we were looking we used all available resources: Internet sources such as Yachtwold, Boattrader, SaltyDog Classifieds on all the forums like LOU, IBoats, The Hull Truth Stopped at every boatyard we passed when making a trip whether for pleasure or business It took us about 8 months to settle on a short list of boats, talk to owners or brokers, physically look at those we were interested in, do sea trials and surveys and close the deal. We finally bought a trailerable Sportcraft 252 and haul her to the Chesapeake Bay and Lake O every year. Once you get the "right" boat you will be glad you did.
  13. I got two of the 14 pound weights from Harvey several years ago and they still swim on the end of a pair of my cables. They track true and the difference in blowback between them and a 15 pound torpedo shaped weight is not noticeable.
  14. We use Ugly Stick 10' dipsy rods with Diawa SG47LCA reels filled with Torpedo 19 strand wire and could not be more satisfied.
  15. We bought the 1 kw Airmar xducer, Furuno FCV585, a 2-bank on-board battery charger, and a plug-in for shore power from BOE. They installed it all on the Sportcraft 252 for $400 and that included making a dash cover from King Starboard where the old Lowrance FF came off.

  17. I didn't have the courage either so I had BOE Marine do the job. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app Age and treachery will always overcome youth and enthusiasm.
  18. Someday he will tell his grandkids about his grandpa taking him fishing and getting his first big fish.
  19. Not to mention those of us who live far away and only get to the lake for a portion of the season. We are 400 miles south and come up in a fishing frenzy for late summer. I live through you guys vicariously from spring through early and mid summer. We are always itching for late July and our first trip north and the reports we read keep us filled with "fish fever".
  20. I've used them to run as teasers between a flasher and meat head.
  21. Started with black and always seem to catch something using them. No reason to change. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app Age and treachery will always overcome youth and enthusiasm.
  22. Good to go is good to go regardless of how you get there.
  23. No stripers yet - started down the road with the Sportcraft last Friday and broke a wheel bearing and hub/brake assy. Picking her back up Saturday from the repair shop - no one had parts. Son is turkey hunting in South Dakota this weekend and it looks like two weeks until we will get to try again.
