Lost one 12lb torpedo weight on first trip this year. Looking for replacement. Jack

Fished out of I-Bay Saturday and Sunday. Saturday went 6 for eight with 5 browns and a steelie and threw in a bonus seagull. Seagull took a silver, black and orange Smithwick off the surface which also took a couple of browns. Blue and silver J-11 did well and picked up one on a NK28 watermelon and one on a froggy challenger. Besides dropping a decent fish I also dropped a, new to me, torpedo rigger weight and my sub troll probe. Not a good first trip thing. All the browns and the seagull released to swim or fly away. Sunday only went 1 for 2. Having some steering difficulties and maneuvering in the lake traffic and waves was too much to deal with. Stuck to the back of the bay. The one we got was on the NK28 watermelon right behind the boat probably 10' down and 12' back. Maybe 10 lbs. Seems like the class of browns hanging around I-Bay area is nice this year.

Don't know much about the smallmouth anymore. It used to be hot just off of Hedges point, four mile creek, years ago but I heard the Zebra Mussels and Gobies ended that. There is good Pike fishing in the bay that time of year, always great Sheephead fishing in the bay also. There will be plenty of Brown Trout action between the bay and Hedges on the lake.

I started using them last year. They will prevent theft by someone who is unprepared but I think they could be defeated with a run of the mill hammer. It looks like if someone were to take a good swing at the plastic knobs on the Scotty mounting bolts it would be all over, Unless of course those mounting bolt knobs are steel underneath the plastic.

L & M thanks. I think your name came up in a conversation I was having regarding this last night. I'll replace that anode with a magnesium one. One other question, what is the recommended interval for having my Alpha One out drive serviced? Not just oil change but pulling it off and doing a tear down and inspection. Jack

It seems like my anodes are not taking any beating from corrosion but my out drive is bearing the brunt instead. I pulled my prop and there is what seems to me to be excessive corrosion behind it. Last year I noticed alot of corrosion on the out drive case. I cleaned up the case and the anodes real well at the beginning of last season. Do I have some sort of grounding problem? The transom was replaced two years ago, is it possible that a grounding wire between the engine and the out drive got missed or something like that? Should I try to clean up the corrosion from behind the prop or will I do more damage than good? Thanks

I'll never say no to a cheap beer. Hopefully this is OK with all of the members of the GCC. I do not want to be seen as trying to hijack their meeting. I'm sure there are plenty of topics and concerns that members would like addressed with the DEC above and beyond a new pen rearing project. Jack

Is anyone considering addressing this topic at the GCC meeting? I don't know the first thing about pen rearing salmon so I do not feel too confident about taking point on the subject, but would gladly attend, listen, learn and offer any help I could. Jack

That makes things convenient. That is a good spot down there. A lot of northern pike in there though. That might be a problem come release time, but it is fairly close to the bay.

I would certainly be willing to donate some time and elbow grease on this if it were determined to be feasible. The lower end of the creek stays at bay level so I think the depth and flow would be fairly predictable. I have canoed that creek between Ellison Park and the bay for the past 15-20 years and there are some good spots for pens. Capt Vince's accessibility concern is a good point though. I only know of one real good spot that would have truck access, pending approval from the town of Brighton.

Where did you get the paint? Is it recommended for aluminum? I sold my aluminum boat to a friend last year and he told me he can not get the bottom paint for aluminum boats this year because NY outlawed it. I remember seeing on the label of the paint for fiberglass not to use it on aluminum. Just wondering if what you got is the answer to his problem. Thanks
