Friends in from Florida hunting with me wanted to fish so we hit Dean's cove at about 8am. Headed south seeing little on the screen shallow headed out to find the big boys suspended out deep, dropped a nine plus pound fish behind the boat.. dang.. picked a steady amount of fish out deep a few mixed small salmon in. The usual UV wild child iron Duke trolling fly put the fish in the boat. Lots of fish were down 135-150, it's setting up the for their winter mode. Fished down to Sheldrake and found the best screens in 175' worked shallow to end the day and lost two very nice fighting silvers in 45'. Total for the day 19 Lakers lots of little salmon and a baby rainbow.. Water was crystal clear and dark spoons and small spoons were the shallow ticket. Water temp on top 47 degrees. Only one other boat launched outta Dean's that am.. perch guys!! Sent from my Moto G (4) using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I do love Owasco, it's been slow there this year not sure what's up. How was the water clarity? Seemed cloudy last time I was there Sent from my Moto G (4) using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
Cayuga Trolling bite shut down
Nautitroller replied to scotch and sodus's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Cayuga?? Location probably. Head farther north, Sheldrake area north should be a good shallow and top 20-50' bite. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
It is Illegal to track a deer in PA with a dog.. we tracked for 10 plus years in NY and got plenty of calls South of the border. PA should get on board with this service. My dog is turning 15 this month and she successfully tracked and found many deer. Soon there will be a puppy but until she passes I will have to hold off on tracking because of her old hips. I miss doing it though.. You get to meet a lot of great guys n gals and the reward of knowing if your shot was fatal or not is very satisfying. Lol! I prefished South of Sheldrake with only a few small fish earlier in the week. That area we were in always seems to produce. Fishing should get better here for a few weeks. We may get out again soon for a fun trip! Sent from my Moto G (4) using Lake Ontario United mobile app

66 degrees. Two of our Lakers had huge sculpin or gobies in them, 6" and chunky, fairly digested.. pink n purple blueish ladder back, hammered custom FLT spoon took both our silvers 45 and 55' down on rigger, 4.5 lb male salmon and 4 lb rainbow. Deep rigger 115' took suspended Lakers hot paddle, sd was a Seneca special n UV wild child. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Nice article! I've never been a fan of introducing new scents to an area of a mature buck, it would be like putting a pile of be dog crap on your living room and thinking no one would notice.. Even if you have the best scents out there they are foreign smells. The only ones I have had success with is freshly harvested tarsals and bladder from a doe. Cayuga Lou All final results...
Nautitroller replied to Iron Duke's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Ah heck! So close to that pretty trophy!! With the experience of Joe, Josh, Nick and Butch that was a tough team to beat! Can't imagine how many hours each guy has on the water.. Great job guys! Imagine how many pounds you woulda had if Josh hadn't made you guys "quit" early [emoji23] Joe Joe your boat is looking good and you have it dialed in! Great job team, why couldn't you have dropped one more fish, lol..Next year.. Big thanks to Mike you are the one that sacrificed a day of fishing. Good job and the key to catching those fish was the flies you make, if y'all haven't checked out his flies please do so, he makes a great fly at a great price! https://www.ironduketrollingflies.com/ Sent from my Moto G (4) using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

Canandaigua 9-1-17 FLTA Tournament/Championship

It's been an honor to fish with this club. Everyone is friendly and helpful. The competition is kinda second compared to the fun and commradary. I really enjoy seeing a guy like Harvey win and watching everyone else that places or doesn't place out there grinding out a catch. Mike you have a power house team! You deserve a ton of recognition for being the best of the guys that fish with us. Great job and congratulations!! Just a side note, our day was beyond great boating 15 bows three Lakers and a bunch of small mouth. We just didn't land any over the 3lb mark. Fun day fishing on any lake. Saw a huge brown jump out of the water behind our lines.. Thought he was on a core for a second but no such luck! Looking forward to LOU all on Cayuga!! Btw my wife is my fishing partner and she insisted that I put a blue lure out, yup it caught the biggest bow!! Sent from my Moto G (4) using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
The fish were very eager to take a small perch colored spoon leading me to believe that is their forage also. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Les great comments, four to five years ago there were huge Lakers and piles of bait in Keuka. Seems that something has changed in that timeline. Weather? Frozen lake? Chemical? Invasives? Baseline samples of water quality would've been great. Is it a natural cycle of the bait fish? Could it use a healthy stocking of alewifes? Can the lake sustain smelt? Probably not. I'm not a biologist but it seems like a problem that has come on quickly. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Lake Ontario United mobile app

My Theory on the fish not biting would be they go into a survival mode and shut down most movement, they probably don't have the energy to swim and catch bait they do see. Overall I think that Keuka trout are in trouble. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Same here nothing in the bellies, all my fish were males btw. Les hate to tell you but I released both of those toothy critters, figured the esox guys would shoot me if on here if I didn't.. " not sure if they are even in the esox family, lol!" Also thanks Mike not sure if you even have to fish Canandaguia lol! Great year for you bud! Launched outta Penn Yan early with a pile of Bass boats. Trolled the North East branch in 55-65' all morning with great screens. Started out with two very nice small mouth bass 3-4lbs. Thought that most of the marks we were seeing may have been them until we started picking a steady amount of Lakers. Dropped a lot of fish as the ones we did catch were barely hooked in the tip of their mouths. Got a nice surprise early with a 3.6lb ll salmon. All the Lakers were thin cookie cutters at 3 to 3.5 lbs. Also caught my PB chain pickerel and then caught a bigger one! Fun day for my wife n myself. Ended up third overall with 14-10 with our best 4 fish. Congratulations to Russ n Bobbie on first n second with Bobby landing a great 5+ lb salmon and Russ had a beautiful bow that tipped the scales at 5-13!!
