  1. If anyone wants info on using Keitech swimbaits and jigs, especially for walleye let me know. I have an affiliate code for purchasing them at a discount too if anyone is interested.
  2. Reel doc, Don't let Kevin pull your leg... nothing lucky about his fishing!!! Kevin, I spoke with the farmers just south of the lake this morning and got permission for arrowhead picking for you and Randy. They are customers of mine and love walleye. Text me tonight if you are coming, but probably do much better in the other spot as far north as you can fish. I'm just doing catch and release myself and patterning so I'm putting in serious time, but you can limit in under an hour and be home before midnight. My bread butter spot where your boys caught last year is just starting as well, but I have been leaving them alone till guiding resumes. Beached there 2 nights ago to take a break in 14 hour marathon and bout had a heart attack walking around scouting the water when I stepped on a sleeping goose.
  3. Nice work bud! Beautiful fish!!! Don't wait till the bait is thick and weeds are a factor and get those boys up here on some eyes! The keitechs absolutely were worth there weight in gold last night! Clear, flat, bright used to be a problem...now every fish we hook has 2-3 eyes trying to take the jig away while we fight the fish! Last night I had the time of my life watching a 9 year old stick 9!!!!! First 9 eyes he ever caught himself. Never seen anything like it without serious knowledge and skills. The Keitech swing impact series is the hottest bait going...makes night walleye casting as easy as bass in farm pond.... assuming you can find feeding eyes of course!
  4. Nice work! On Oneida there literally is more viable techniques to pick from than anywhere I've ever been and when I used to fish it as my home lake I was always hearing guys argue over the best way to catch. Most of the time I didn't agree with either person, but we all were catching. I'd say focus on what you do best and you will do just fine. On Otisco they are post spawn and the males are all still milking even though the spawn was over 2-3 weeks ago. Females aren't really feeding much at all.
  5. Several reasons why I did so much better night 2. First, lake was 46 Friday pond 52 and with the runoff the current was strong at the causeway creating a 6 degree warmer current. so many fish in that area the bass guys caught walleye in the middle of the day. Lake was 50 on Saturday and pond was 53 so the warm water discharge wasn't as dramatic. Doesn't matter if the bite is good I don't crowd shore guys and I won't combat troll or setup to fish the cut with 3-4 other boats. Plus guiding by boat and fishing a shore spot isn't gonna get you alot of repeat business. The other reason is starting at midnight doesn't leave time for making much of a plan b and I started with last year's opening program and fish were shallower. Casting takes a lot of fishing and moving to convince yourself which spots are best for any given weather pattern and I started literally a couple hundred yards from where I should have been fishing and worked the wrong way around the lake and by the time I realized what I needed to try the night was all but over and I went to bed before moon set on a clear flat night and missed the late bite and the early one was before midnight. After being 180 degrees off day one I was nearly perfect with my decisions and plan day 2 and caught fish all over trolling and casting. The only thing I tried that didn't work was fishing the causeway where it was hot the night before as there literally was nobody on the lake after 1 am. Sometimes it's a 50/50 guess and I guessed wrong day 1. Early season especially you need to try the Keitechs I told you about....just have to try the swing impact on a 1/8 oz tungsten jighead. All the action we had was males still milking except for one big girl that I lost waiting for a net. My hardcore walleye buddies don't exactly drop their rod and get the net and when I turned to see if the net was coming fish came right at me and I didn't even have my left hand on the reel... stupid and careless. Lastly, Friday morning the lake came up a foot over night. That sort of stuff doesn't usually add up to predictable patterns. On Otisco you can't depend on walleye doing what they have before. Every season is vastly different
  6. We did 15 kept 7 lost 4 somehow and missed another 4-5. I was able to dial in an evening troll pattern, night casting, and a morning troll pattern in one 12 hr trip. Next walleye casting trip will probably involve a fly rod! My phone was dead by morning so I wasn't in charge of pics and you can tell! I'll do a full report later.
  7. Fished 12-3 lost one on a jig early and that was the only bite. Water temp was 46 main lake. Try it in a few hours.
  8. Couple hours to go...good luck and be safe out there there will be debris with the runoff. Otisco is up a foot overnight bring boots!
  9. I'm sure the creeks are! Probably plenty of debris out there as well which is handy for night trolling. Blew 40-50 on Otisco for a day and half too! I'd say in golf terms expect us open difficulty out there tonight. If I wanted easy I'd fish for bass or trout...or oneida! I can't wait!!!
  10. The project was moving along as of the 15th of March. I'll update this weekend. It's not going to have much capacity, but I suppose some may want to save $9. I'll take a well run private launch with bathrooms, slips, store, garbage/dumpster, and security.
  11. Les, Im going to make the best of it no matter what! Im sure at some point guides and captains will be turned back on...in the meantime I've never needed to get on the water more!
  12. Opening camp today and fishing at midnight! Went back to work yesterday and got a call that Onondaga county was opening campgrounds to seasonal campers. Started the week out of work and unable to use the campsites I paid for in January. Ending the week employed and getting ready to head to the lake. Things are finally looking up!
  13. That's a tank! I caught my first 5-6lb smallie perch fishing 20+ years ago in Union springs behind Frontenac island in about 14 fow on a little jig. In those days we had never seen a fish like that just we don't see too many 7+ today! I fell in love with smallmouths that day. Thanks for sharing!
  14. Otisco is the same way unless you know something. Even in summer, most years, most anglers aren't going to catch daytime walleye. That being said if you are good at trolling structure tight and/or don't mind losing some tackle mornings and evenings can out produce night in May and June. They can definitely be jigged as well, but like gambler said you have to have it figured out...and it's never the same year to year. You have to understand where they are feeding at night and catch them sliding out to structure and depth in the morning and sliding in in the evening. These finger lakes walleye don't travel much until July when they move offshore so knowing the night feeding locations is critical to finding the right structure to catch in daylight. Some of these locations are obvious, but others you wouldn't ever find if you didn't know for certain by being out there at night. Side imaging on a big screen can be used to find walleye on big sand flats in water shallow enough that if you drive over them they spook and you can't mark a single fish. The side imaging will let you find em from a distance and boards will keep your boat off the fish. If you spend all your time targeting these types of areas and have enough viable tools in your bag you can catch. A typical slow 1.0 to 1.8 troll with sticks or harnesses isn't very viable. You have to make them react whether jigging or trolling for daytime spring eyes except maybe an hour window at dusk. From dusk on till first light you want your presentation as slow as possible whether trolling, jigging, casting sticks. Also fish higher in the column. There is really no need to be banging bottom and often times a floater just under the surface is all you need. Also an electric trolling motor is almost a must as stealth is a factor.
  15. Nice work! I'm so ready to get out myself! 2 more days!
  16. I have Lexa lc 100s on my riggers and love them. I was planning on starting to replace my board reels with cold water low profiles or lexa's, but now I see the Shimano has low profile line counters. All my spinning and casting reels are Shimano and they just last longer and are far smoother in drag as well as retrieve. Im gonna go with the tekota a 300's I think.
  17. Conesus isn't that far for you, but I'm sure it's tough. Chautauqua or Otisco aren't near as far as chaumont bay, but I doubt Otisco is much easier than conesus. Oneida is a sure bet but that's starting to be a drive. If you did wanna try Otisco I'll help you and your boy out in any way short of taking you!
  18. Just wondering if anyone out there has the new tekota a's or even had one in their hands?
  19. That's the beauty of a small finger lake, you can handle the weather and it just doesn't get as dangerous. Just wanna get back on the water...
  20. Nice work! Ive seen plenty of times when a speed change, usually bumping it up, will turn lost fish and short hits into fish in the box.
