had my brother and some of his co-workers out on saturday.headed up north to the dunes to make sure we bent some rods for them and after some lakers and a steelie,as we were getting ready to pick up the dipsy starts ripping and after a nice battle landed a 20 lb king.
we also run on the slower side 2.0 to 2.2 and very rarely are ever over 2.5.but thats what works for us.one of the most valuable things learned at this years lotsa salmon school was to figure out what works on your boat and go with it.dont be to concerned what works for others.get out there and experiment with speed and temp. and as you start picking up fish take notes and figure out what works for you on your boat.
Must be a morning thing, fished from 4 pm till 8.50 ft rigger popped that's it.didnt mark much bait and pretty much no fish.set up just west of the little salmon and worked all the way past the stack.from 130 fow to 220.
the wind was suppose to pick up today as the day went on,but did just the opposite, fished from 7 to 2 and was just about flat on our way in.carbon copy of last night,1 laker about 10 lbs and 1 tiny king.started in 150 fow and worked out to 250 then back in.very little bait and didnt mark many fish.
Quick trip last night,1laker,1 small king straight out of the river150 fow, laker down 140 on a f/f and king on dipsey out 280 alewife spoon.stopped in 80 fow to check temp.,61 all the way to the bottom.temp. Was 46 down 140 in 150 fow.
it has been very tough for us,but i think the lake is getting ready to set up if we can get some consistant winds, seems every other day it blows from a different direction.bait has finally showed up,so hopefully the fish wont be far behind.give your dad my number and tell him to call me if he needs anything.
hey steve,if you dont get what you are looking for at salmon country,i can ask at mikes, they also have 2 cabin rentals, nothing great, but pretty good rates, not sure if you rent the cabin they throw in a slip.let me know.
fished for a while this morning, got tired of having to clean lines of the green moss/weed like stuff floating around out there every 15 minutes.still lots of marks and bait in that 90 to 100 fow,but just like yesterday, couldnt get anything started.
Can it????we have been saying that since April.haha.fished yesterday from stack to alcan,2 for 3,10 lb laker and 5 lb brown, lost a laker.marked lots of fish, some bait, just could not get them to go.90 to 100 fow,got outside of 110,screen went blank, heading out shortly.
thats been the story pretty much all spring, catch one day and get blanked the next.at least it seems the bait is showing up,hopefully the salmon wont be to far behind.
