  1. sorry to hear about your friend, its never easy.i wont make it to the hudson this year, but i want to try to get back down there next year.
  2. the run is water temp.dependent.as the water warms they keep heading up the river.so,depending on where you fish, will dictate what time.usually mid-april they start showing up down south and by beginning of may they are up to albany, but probably will be later this year.i use my rigger rods,a sinker slide, which is a plastic slide with a clip for your sinker.your fishing line passes through it and you stop it with a barrel swivel 3 feet above your hook, this allows you to change weight as the tide changes in strength.we dont drift,we anchor up on shoals or channel edges and fish the bottom with herring chunks and always 1 live lined.like was stated above, leave reel in neutral with clicker on.stripers like to pick up a bait, run with it a bit then drop it,then come back for it,so,dont set the hook right away, let them run.stripers 24/7 is a great site to learn and keep up with reports.also, river basin sport shop in catskill has a great website with reports.he has run a striper contest for the last 27 years, but is looking to retire soon,so isnt running it this year.look at the size of the fish that have won in the past!!!!!giz,if you are looking to go,i think i have hooks, sinkers and the slides ill give you if you need them.
  3. could be,i heard they were fishing for perch!!!!
  4. first part of spring, less than 15 fow, fish usually wont slide out unless the wind pushes the warm water and or bait out.once the water starts getting into the 50's,they start to move out,but still suspended, then once the lake sets up,look for 55 degree water where it meets the bottom.
  5. i know someone pulled a 25 lber through the ice in the beginning of winter in front of daikers.
  6. wasnt a tiger,we lost him cause he wouldnt fit in the net!!!!!when he flipped out he just layed there for a bit,so i got a good look at him.you can catch lakers fairly easy in the spring, but once the water warms and they start heading deep, its all over.pike are a little easier to target and find then lakers in the summer.
  7. we lost one a couple years ago on fourth trolling that was well over 4 feet.have caught many over 30,never through the ice though.there are plenty of big lakers in there as well, but they are very hard to catch after spring.
  8. we did it,but just south of albany in catskill.did for several years in a row till we started fishing lake o.its alot of fun, towed the boat down and stayed for a week.dont need much as far as tackle.its all about timing.the run doesnt last that long.
  9. it can go pretty quick, but its gona be beginning of april at least.they were riding sleds on the little salmon around mikes and salmon country.
  10. yep,no shortage of snowmobilers up here,2 more weeks and the trails close,THANK GOD!!!!!hey dan, nice to see you got her uncovered, dont get to excited though,i stopped at mexico point this weekend and there was ice as far as i could see, gona be down near 0 at night all this week, sorry for the bad news
  11. welcome aboard, there is alot of great fisherman on this site to learn from and remember its give and take.you read and learn, dont be afraid to post your experiences, knowledge, and fishing reports.

  14. not in mexico bay, stopped today after the elotsa show, ice as far as you can see in all directions!!!!
  15. i have 2 big jon rod holders, part #rh00423.these are the heavy duty silver ones for dipsey rods.they were on the boat for one season.100 bucks for the pair picked up.shipping extra.i will be at the elotsa tackle show tomorrow,i can bring them with me.
  16. im looking to paint/resurface the deck.not looking to rebuild, its still solid, but guy before me had carpet down and when i removed the carpet alot of the glue stayed, some of the paint came up,looks like crap.any suggestions on a what brand/type of paint or something else that would be easy to put down to make it look better???thanks
  17. i believe they said at the meeting it went out to bid and they have a contractor lined up to do the roof.
  18. thanks eugene,i grew up down that way and fished the sound alot.i might take you up on that.jason
  19. dont get to exited guys, snow may be gone down your way,but its gona be around for a while up here!!!!!was in pulaski tuesday, snow is still over 3 feet deep.roves started to slide with the warm weather.snow is up to the eaves on 1 story buildings!!!!!sorry guys
  20. if i had new 4-strokes i probably wouldnt have a kicker, but dont have 40 grand laying around!!!!!!it was alot cheaper to go the kicker route.the old 2-strokes run great, but dont like to troll.i have alwys been a 2-stroke guy,but manthem 4-strokes are so smooth and quite!!!!!
  21. we ran some convectors last year and really like them,so this year we switched completely over to convectors, from 20's for browns to 45 and 55's for copper.
  22. we will have to see what mother nature brings the next couple of weeks.more towards may might be more realistic this year.spring browns are a great way to cut your teeth on trolling lake o.they are fairly easy to find in the spring and you dont need a ton of tackle to get started.once you fish the lake, you wont want to fish the river!!!!!!
