im with tyee,im going to add some convectors this year, but to be honest,i have 3 seasons on my magdas and only have had 1 go bad.you can buy 3 or 4 magda for the price of a takota or saltist.you said you have done well with the ones you have, why change?if anything, send the ones you have to tuna toms and have him go through them.it will be alot cheaper than buying new reels!!!!

Planer reel suggestions
finsntins replied to wannabe trollin's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
if you have a limited budget and are just getting into it,there is nothing wrong with manuals.remember, for the most part, all you will be doing is reeling them in once a day,if you have enough releases.they arent like riggers where you will be reeling them in 20 times a day.electric is nice, but expensive. -

thats what this site is about.3 years ago i didnt even know what a salmon looked like, never used a down rigger and never even heard of a dipsey diver.im no expert and still have alot to learn, but i can honestly say that 95% of my knowledge has come from this website in one form or another, from reading posts to fishing with fellow lou members,to doing tournaments.what is really great now,is with a little experience now and my time on the water,i can give back!!!!!!!

our target speed for the most part is 2 to 2.2 with f/f on lake o and do just fine at that speed.we have never fished the fingers and by no means are we experts on lake o,but im wondering if the fish in the fingers are smaller than in lake o,maybe a f/f set up is to much or to big of a presentation????might be a post you want to put in the finger lakes section.

just wondering if anyone knows marc.i bought a couple of riggers from him a while back and i am looking to pick them up on my way to salmon school next weekend.i sent him a pm but he hasnt got back to me.im NOT saying he is trying to bone me,just maybe he doesnt live on the site like i do,so,if anyone knows him and can give him a call and tell him to check the site that would be greatly appreciated.thanks in advance.

we also use that chart, had it laminated, and keep it on the boat,it is very close.i have never seen a chart or any info on how far away from the boat they run,but as you can see in the chart,as the setting goes up,you have to let more line out to achive the same depth, also,as the setting goes up the further away from the boat they run.as a general rule of thumb,we run them on a 2 setting when running copper on boards.if we run 2 per side,we run 1 on a 1.5 setting and the other on a 3,but you have to be very careful on your turns.

egoody, dont give up on them!!!!!!wehad a tough time with them at first and gave up on them after a few tangles, but went back to them and after getting use to them and then catching fish on them,we dont ever go without having them in my spread and even put out 2 per side when they are hot.ive had days when they are the only thing that catches fish.as far as colors,i think with d.d. it is more important to have them running at the proper depth, then color,as we have caught fish on different colors.after loosing a rigger weight early last year,we ran 1 lead color and 1 black and didnt see a difference in catch rate between the 2.
