  1. we started out with a 300 copper, seems to get used the most on our boat.depending on what you are going for and what time of the year it may run to deep or not deep enough, but is a good starting point.once you get comfortable deploying and fishing 300,you can go on to longer ones if you want.first 50 feet are tough, but after that its not bad, just remember to let it out slow.if the reels you have wont work, you can always buy one "pre" rigged with the copper and backing from tom allen at at-tom-mic or any of the local tackle shops.
  2. welcome aboard, like turf said, all it takes is your first lake o screamer and its all over.there is alot to learn from some great fisherman here on lou.
  3. i have bought several of harveys weights, top notch, great price and fast shipping.
  4. x2 what sea-iv said.i believe michigan stinger makes them and fat nancy's carries them.very simple and easy to use.
  5. Fished yesterday from 3 till 5 just west of the stack.started in 75 fow, marked a lot of fish from 30 to 50 ft down, did a small steelies, then an 8 lb king in 90 fow down 80 on an NBk.steelie was on a green glow alewife free slider.some good marks on the bottom in 90to 100 fow.
  6. i spent my first year in sandy pond with a 21 ft outboard and that was enough for me,the pond is nice, but the channel can be tricky.its all sand so you wont hurt anything, but the channel changes with every big blow and if its a little rough, good luck.im in the little salmon river now and never have to worry about bottom.
  7. nice job dan, havent heard much about browns in a while.on saturday we got all our bites late also.couldnt stay that late sunday,oh well, there is always next weekend.hey giz,you arent missing much, just try to make time in august.
  8. fished today from 9 to 3 and never moved a rod.fished from high rocks to alcan 50 fow out to 150.heard some guys on the vhf doing some steelies and a few kings..this is one of our kings from yesterday.
  9. Fished today after taking the last couple weeks off.fished from 3 to 7 and went 3 for 5.1 laker and 2 kings.one went 18lbs.the 2 we lost were kings also.all came on green spoons and one we missed was on a green spiny with crushed tape and a green fly on a dipsey out 200.other we lost was 300 copper.riggers down 70 and 80 with cheaters 15 ft up.the stack to alcan in 90 to 100 fow.

  14. i have 4 used sealine sg17lca with fresh mono backing.2 have 2 color and 2 have 1 color core.i dont know how old they are,i bought them last year and only used them a couple times for browns.they are in perfect condition and i have the original boxes.200 bucks shipped.
  15. Pretty much the same story all last week.some lakers to be had out by the plant from80 fow out to 150.
  16. I just had the same experience with them.after trading a guy from this site, who I won't name,my x4 for his x4d this past winter,I went to use it last week and I wasn't getting a down temp.i called fish hawk and explained what was happening.karen right away said it was the probe, she said the same thing,I will ship you one out today and 2 days later I had it.i guess the probe must have broke sitting in my closet over the winter.
  17. 8.4 inch screen with dual frequency ducer?
  18. Look at the loc board, didn't even make 20 fish.i know conditions haven't been great, but I wonder if them getting extra attention last year cause the salmon were hard to come by has anything to do with it?
  19. I think your best bet is to call a Mercury dealer and give them your model number off the engine.i would think they would have a complete install kit for your specific engine.
  20. Hey john,we gave up on Browns and just played with lakers out by the plant.fished between the red building and the stack wed. And Thursday.picked at them, had a good screen from time to time.other than that it's been tough.only bonus was a 13lb king solo on wed.fished 80 to 150 fow.best was riggers at 60 and 70 down.300 copper took a couple also.
  21. Like lily said, you want to use s.s. Wire for dipsies, blood run or torpedo are two companies that make it.we run ours on 30 series line counters.1000 ft of wire with no backing fills the reel perfect.twilly tip on the rod.just tie a loop in the wire and run it through the eye of a snap swivel and pull the swivel back through the loop.we run a mono leader as long as the rod length from the dipsey to your lure of choice.blood run has a depth chart to give you an idea of amount of line out to the running depth of the dipsey.when letting the dipsey out.let it out slowly.
  22. Keep an eye on the reports, things can change quick, but like jusgrinnin said,we spent 5 days on the water and not much to show for it.some lakers in front of the plant 80 to 120 fow.
  23. YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!!!!two weeks ago we fished all weekend and never moved a rod,but it still was better then working.looks like the weather is going to get better as the week goes on and even better for the loc.
  24. not sure how i exaggerated, all i did was state the facts of my day, which i always do,whether its good or bad, just trying to help out my fellow fisherman and give back.i guess i shouldnt try to do that any more.
