  1. just booked a room for the salmon school at the quality hotel and inn at the falls.we stayed there last year,it is right across the street from the convention center.it is a nice place and has a bar and restaurant.i checked a few places like expedia,hotels.com,and travelocity and the prices were all the same.2 double beds with a non refundable payment was 58 bucks and a refundable booking was 72 bucks.a queen bed was 10 bucks more per night.

  4. nice job dan,we took a trip down last week to the atlantic highlands and jumped on a party boat friday night,we didnt get any stripers,but it was great being out on the water at night in shorts in the middle of novemeber!!!probably our last trip till the spring run in the hudson.
  5. last year was our first time and it was great.looking forward to going again this year.we booked our motel room early and got a great price,like 70 bucks a night.i posted the info.here on lou and some members tried booking the same motel a few weeks later and they paid over 100 bucks a night.so if you know you are going.book early!!!
  6. if you have not changed lower unit oil,you should do that NOW,before winter.if something is leaking and you have water in the gear case,it will crack and you will be replacing the whole lower unit in the spring.
  7. if the motor runs good except at idle,i would check compression like what was stated by fish hooker.2-strokes need at least 100 psi or better and all cylinders should be within 10% of each other.
  8. alcoa also is closing there aluminum plant in massena which was announced monday,another 500 jobs going to be lost there.

  11. ive never owned an i/o,but have worked at a few marinas over the years and like what was said above,an oil"sucker"is the way to go.yes,they have a thin plastic vacum line that goes down the dipstick tube.you should run the motor for a bit to get the oil warm,the oil comes out alot easier.
  12. we have used a ranger salmon landing net for 3 years now and it doesnt have any tears in it and it has the extendable handle.
  13. snowed all day here,everything is white,actually have a couple inches on the deck.

  15. fished yesterday around the salmon river from 30 to 70 fow and was suprised when we pulled the wire lines the amount of fleas on them.not real thick,like in the summer,but they were more then a foot up from the swivel.
  16. fished today from 11 to 3 and never moved a rod,from noon on we were the only boat out there,so you wont have to worry about traffic.water is COLD!!!!44 degrees top to bottom from 25 fow out to 70 fow.
  17. i believe running with any light on(spot light or docking lights) other then your nav.lights at night is illegal????
  18. i hear ya,im not into it either and it will be the end for us also soon,time to start getting ready for winter,but there havent been many boats out there,last sunday there wasnt a dozen boats and it was a beautiful day,im not complaining!!!
  19. i have a portable xm head unit,then you can buy the docking stations and put one in your truck,car,boat,house and then when you get to the dock,take the head unit out of your truck and plug it into the docking unit in your boat and you are good to go.if you are going to replace the stereo in your boat,get one with a rca jack in the front,then all you need is a rca cable to connect docking station to stereo.i bought the complete kits that come with the docking station and antenna on ebay for about 15 bucks a piece.
  20. we use to launch at the light house marina right in the salmon river,just inside from the lake,not sure if it is still open.i think it was 7 bucks and you just put it in an envelope and slid it in the door of the marina is nobody was around.

We went Saturday to the open house,the first part of the ladder where the gate is to let fish in was full,the next section had some fish and the rest of them to the stream had a fish or two in them.we watched the fish jumping up the ladders and noticed a lot of small fish,there were some monsters in there,but saw a lot of small ones.

Pretty good bite last two days from Selkirk to the big river from 5 pm through dark,everything and anything took fish,spoons,paddles,meat,2 color,5 color,riggers and dipsies.2 for 5 sAturday and that came from 3 to 5,and today we went 9 for 13,10 of the 13 bites came between 6 and 8.40 to 50 fow wa best.
  23. we run diawa accudepths for riggers,lead core,and flat lines.
