  1. My dad was a fair weather fisherman back in the day and took me out occasionally as a kid. My grandfather passed before I was old enough to really know him but he had a library of fishing books that I read in the study every time we visited my grandma. I literally took notes and kept them in a show box along with notes from fishing shows. I did this for about 12 years until I got my drivers license and am now a fishing addict of about 25 years and am about to pick up bow hunting as well. I am proof it can definitely skip a generation.
  2. Looking forward to try trolling Otisco again this year Justin, hopefully with better luck than last year. I did very well casting, by my standards, for muskies and 'eyes but could only get smallies while trolling. 39" I think was my biggest last year, hoping to pull one up from the deep-water this year.
  3. The bass are hitting as of this past Sunday....
  4. Been scouting out in my woods behind the house. So far 2 nice Toms have come out into the field looking for me after some box calling. Sunday will be my first bow hunting experience ever and also first time hunting anything other than waterfowl about 8 years ago. Looking forward to it
  5. In my kayak I go out if the wind is under 8 mph from the North. 10 mph is pretty bumpy but a couple dramamine keeps it all down....usually.
  6. I haven't been up there in 2 weeks but fish were being caught the last 2 trips I was out. Watch the wind direction and for stained water
  7. I have always given 80-100 with 4 clients aboard
  8. How did you grab ahold of the seagull? I bet it got a little hairy as it came boatside...
  9. Just got my turkey blind set up. Now I have to decide if I want to fish Sunday or wait for Tom to stop over on my only day off....
  10. Just remember if you go through the small channel to lay your rods down and not leave them standing up in the holders....I forgot the first time in my kayak and fortunately just scratched them up a little but didn't break any.
  11. Krux, I debated the same thing in my head last week and, since I don't get out until 4:15, I decided to call in sick so I didn't have to wait until Sunday. It was well worth it....
  12. Same here. I figured if they were charging admission they would at least have opened up the restrooms. Only the one by the boat launch is open.
  13. Yeah, instead of a fee collector in the booth there is a meter with a sign saying $8.00 per vehicle. I don't think that was there last Thursday and if it was I blew right by it and lucked out without getting a ticket
  14. After debating whether or not planer boards would help my trolling efforts in the kayak to keep my lines from crossing I decided to build my own out of an $0.88 walmart cutting board and a broken aluminum arrow and this was the result. The pencil lead across the bottom needed to be added to keep the keel down. Worked great last week and is only 6" x4". We'll see how well it pulls deep diver's in the future but for small sticks I'm very happy with the set that cost me $14 for a set of 2.
  15. Thanks Seenyor! Pretty much look back at the posts on here and it'll give you an idea of what has been going on. It's just starting right now and most seem to be waiting for this weekend to get out for the first time. I saw a total of 3 boats out there on thursday working the 20'+ mudline
  16. 42 and 43 in most spots but a small area was 45 where I got this one right in the middle of a very dark mud line in 6' of water. I thought it was snagged at first when my rod tip bent to the back of the kayak then saw the head shaking it so I paddle hard a few strokes to set the hook and grabbed the rod.
  17. Woohoo finally landed my first brown of the year and it was a beaut. Probably in the 12# range and dragged me around in my kayak for about 10 mins before I could get the net on it. Snapped a few blind pics of it one handed before letting it go, sorry this was the best pic I got. Had one other whack on the same lure but besides that no other action but had a nice mudline to follow thanks to a northeast wind.
  18. right in the park pond and try to get next to reeds coming out of the water
  19. for guys staying overnight you may want to pack a bullhead rod and some 'crawlers for some evening entertainment
  20. that maroon/ gold cleo is my go-to this time of year from the piers then I switch to silver with green or blue as the water clears up in may.
  21. Yep that's the one I was referring to and they still make them! I wasn't sure how they would stand up to waves since I fish a lot of big water. Might be fun to try salmon and steelhead fishing the rivers with it as well.
