  1. I went down to Myers last night for about 20 minutes, and there were at least 4 boats out in the middle of the lake (that I could see) running +20 mph. Common sense ain't so common...
  2. Will depend on how much more rain we get this week, and what the wind does. Forecast is calling for a predominantly west wind, which may help push a lot of it to shore. The west side will likely be cleaner than the east side.
  3. If anyone has their boat in the water at Cayuga, it may be worth checking your dock lines and bilge pumps. The water has come up enough to possibly pose an issue if your lines were too tight before the storm. Was just down at Myers, and the water was over a couple docks in the harbor (namely, the one with the center console directly across from the launch). I didn't see any major issues, but also didnt look that hard. Also, check your bilges/pumps before heading out. If anyone from out of town has a boat on the south end of Cayuga that they want checked, send me a PM and I'll do my best to get out and look. Thanks, Chris

  5. There was a fairly long debate on this topic over the winter - you can search for that thread, but I believe the general concensus was 50/50 between rings and no rings. Someone contacted Michigan Stinger, who said that they design their spoons to be run without rings, while other guys like the added protection provided by the more free swinging nature of the spoon on a ring, and/or additional action by using a ring and a swivel. This long and short is, it comes down to personal preference. If I buy a spoon with a ring on it, I run it with a ring, if not, I don't. As far as running a spoon behind a spinny, I personally don't do it - but I would imagine there is a lot of line twist going on there, and swivels will help cut down on it. FWIW, it may be worth running a barrel swivel between the spinny and spoon as well. Chris
  6. Found one down 90 over 180 out of I Bay last weekend, before the weather came through.
  7. Don't use West Marine brand - broke on of them last night (grabbing rod out of holder, not pulling a dipsy)
  8. This one hit a Mountain Dew spin doctor down 90 over 180 today Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  9. Launched the boat at 615, headed straight out the chute to 50 FOW. Bounced between 50-100' with no marks, so headed deeper. Found 41-42* down temp between 120-180 FOW and started picking away. Ended the day 6/8, kings and a laker. Everybody got to play today, 4 on the riggers, 2 on the dipsies and 2 on the 6 color core. Mountain Dew was good today - 2 on NK28s, 2 on dew spin doctor and fly. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  11. Posting for a friend.... selling 2 Cannon Easi-Troll HS Manual downriggers, with gimbal bases, weights and relseases. Used 1 season before he sold his boat. Asking $250. Located in Ithaca. Thanks, Chris
  12. Launched at Union Springs yesterday afternoon. Ran down to Levanna, set up deep, marked a few (very few) in 120-150 FOW. Swung inside, bounced between 20-30 FOW, marked a lot of fish, picked up one big pickerel. Stayed inside up to the green buoy, then pulled lines and ran up north for perch. Ended up with enough for a nice meal. Running mostly natural sticks on the boards, NK28s on the riggers (black/purple, chartruse). Water was very clear - could see the bottom in +20 FOW FWIW, I saw a bunch of dead Gobies near shore at Myers Saturday night. Hopefully thats the start of a trend...
  13. Use a small swivel instead of tying direct Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  14. Props to kayaker919 - I tried the hot water/baking soda/salt technique. Lo and behold, it worked! I took some before and after pictures; not sure if they turned out but here they are: Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  15. Thanks guys. Fortunately I picked up enough of them to try a couple different ways. I'll report back! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  18. Hey all, I recently picked up some new in package, old NK28s. So old in fact, that the Real Silver is tarnishing on the edges and the bottom (by the hook) of a bunch of them. Wondering if silver cleaner would remove the tarnish without affecting the performance of the spoon, from a visual or olfactory perspective? Thoughts?
