  1. One added bit. I have had a break off when I’ve let the dipsy out too fast and it’s spun and wrapped up the mono. So slow is key. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  2. Nice info. I only have a few seasons out of a multi species boat myself but one thing I’d disagree on is the snubber. I thought they were necessary when I started and then after a couple of trips dumping fish after a rip and a few shakes I eliminated them based on advice I got on here. Now I just run 30# wire straight to the dipsy and then 30# mono to the flasher. It was a great decision. Stopped dumping fish and haven’t had a break off yet in a season and a half with a bunch of kings up to 28#. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  3. I’ve been fishing browns and kings solo out of a 17’ boat for the last 3 years without autopilot. It’s not that difficult, you just have to pay close attention to your direction at all times. And if it’s windy, don’t troll into the wind. The wind can have you sideways in seconds while you’re fighting a fish or setting lines so it’s best to go with it or at 90deg to it if it’s strong. 4. Good point, joesmo. I can see my Humminbird fine in high sun with my sunglasses on but need to lift them to see the tablet. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  5. Also bought some stick on mounts for like $4.99 on Amazon and they work great. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Yep. I shopped around for the cheapest I could find with a 10” screen and internal GPS. Also had to be Android because I use a Smart Troll for depth/speed/temp. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  7. I do this with navionics and a 10” Android tablet with GPS and no cell coverage. Downloaded the app on my home WiFi. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  8. The post toward the top that says he sold it was referring to the trailer, if I’m reading it right. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  9. Great job, Ademarco. We were out there too. 15/20 with a monster break off to end the day. Water holding fish was 40.5deg. It moved as the morning went on and the fish moved with it. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  10. Looks like Purple Die Hard Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  11. If you want versatility you could always go with a segmented 10 color. I have a lot of luck on Oneida in the summer with 3-5 colors. I actually use a line counter and run whatever # of colors I want down the chute. Oneida eyes aren’t huge so I’ve never had a problem with stopping anywhere on the lead. Wouldn’t do that with boards or Ontario fish though. I also use microlead or 832 on Oneida but wouldn’t recommend it for Ontario in the summer because it’s thinner and picks up a lot of fleas. 12. Sounds like a good plan. Pulling cranks like flicker shads around the deeper weeds, 8-12fow, and sticks over the shallow weeds works too. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  13. Dragging live bait isn’t your best bet for Oneida eyes. They like a more aggressive approach. If you want to keep it simple I’d recommend dragging a worm harness behind the boat and casting a buck tail with a piece of crawler in front of your drift. Let it get to the bottom and then rip aggressively up 2-3’ and let it go back to the bottom. June is a great month. Generally everything works. Not equally, but there are a lot of ways to put eyes in the boat. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  14. I bought a cheap ASUS tablet off Amazon with some stick on plastic mounting brackets. Works great. Although I still haven’t gotten the Smart troll to work. Interference problem from all the toys I have on my boat, I think. Need to try to sort it out in the spring. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  15. I have 2 Lowrance Ice Machines that I no longer use. Elite 5 Chirp - asking $250 Full featured with GPS, used last season ~10 trips. Looks like new. Elite 4 - asking $100 Full featured with GPS, used 3 seasons, pretty beat up bag, cracked clip on the back of unit that I secure with a rubber band, no charger (unless I can find it before sale), works perfectly. I live on Oneida Lake so would prefer pick up between the beach and Apps. Could also work it in Whitesboro if necessary. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. Nice! They're a great company. Always go way above and beyond on the service.
  17. 20% off all rods and reels at FishUSA today. Plus buy 3 get one free on lures. I'm out of dry powder at this point, after the rest of their specials this month, but you could put together some nice deals today.
  18. I used the Okuma Cold Water High-Speed Wire reels this summer. 6.2:1 ratio. I liked them a lot. Line counters on the 30 and 45 size, but a bit more expensive than the Convectors. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  19. That's exactly what I did and highly recommend it. In the winter for GPS and fish finder on the ice and in the summer I just set the unit on the seat of my jon boat and used a wire hanger to secure the ducer. Worked perfectly. Great year round fishing tool.
  20. I didn't have a very good experience with mine but I hope it was transducer placement. I'll be moving it for next season. The pros are all already outlined. Cons for me were the transducer bracket being too big for a stern saver making it tough to mount on my Ranger. Shouldn't be a problem on a great lakes boat or even an aluminum multispecies with a large flat transom. The other con is seeing the android screen with sun glasses.
  21. Well. No luck for me but totally my fault. I tried to wish things into an October pattern and stayed shallow. Left the riggers at home. 0-1 on kings and 4 small walleyes. Worst weekend fishing in a long time for me but that's what happens when you don't go where the fish are. Gorgeous time to be out there though. 22. Correction. 40 size reel. The 35 is my steelhead reel. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  23. Sounds like a good setup. I use a 9'6" ML St Croix with a Pflueger President 35 size and 10-14# Fireline to a 20 fluoro leader. (Same rod I use for steelhead with a reel change) I personally get too many wind knots and tangles with regular braid like power pro and try to never use mono on a spinning reel anymore due to line twist. I do also have a 9'6" casting rod with straight 15# mono that I use though.
  24. I'll be up there this weekend chasing kings first, then probably make my first run for eyes. I also may hit the big river for the elusive Muskie. What a great area to be in this time of year. It's gonna take some serious beginner's luck to find the eyes and skis though. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  25. Caught this little coho (I think) out of Oswego a couple of weeks back. Built like Buzz Lightyear Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
