  1. Throwback to 1989 when you could rent a boat with a single 15 ish HP POS motor and drive off into a dangerous waterway without life jackets.... Rental Boats out of Sekiu WA Best Ling Cod fishing EVER in front of this house west of Sekiu Halibut fishing at the Blue dot, mouth of the straight of Juan de Fuca - Vancouver Island in background Terrified friends after weather turned on a dime... Had to ditch the charter boat we tailed to blue dot and head back in some big rollers... Give me a break, I was a teenager when I took this.
  2. Gander Mountain is going out of business, would have been your best bet for selection (not price). They still have a decent spoon and flasher selection, flies pretty picked over. Deals not that great yet but worth a look if you have one nearby. I agree with jigstick mountain dew spin doctors, atomik flies, add in a glow frog spoon and for silvers maybe an orange crush spoon or other bright colors if you want to bring in a few eaters. Not to be a buzzkill but Lake Ontario has fleas. pick up a spool of 30LB mono for the upcoming flea season - Good Luck Out there!
  3. Working Olcott Webcam I have seen a few links for webcams but none worked for me. The below link pans around and at one point in its rotation zooms in on the break wall (and out into the lake) coming out of 18 mile creek. All the flood damage is terrible https://www.olcottrentals.com/en/786020/marina-webcam
  4. Dog's 1st boat trip - Waterport Dam Squatters Bay - Key West
  5. Erie after dusk out in front of woodlawn June 3rd Olcott sunset May 6th
  6. Have to launch from a bunk trailer dipping my truck nearly to the doors, anyone know of a launch that is still steep with all this flooding? Accidentally caught this night fishing for eyes in Erie.... sure was fun to fight.
  7. Big Cat June 3rd My 1st time night fishing on Erie and 1st time targeting walleye, dragging sticks and a worm harness in 10 to 12 FOW. Should have weighed this one before I released it. Was caught out front of Woodlawn Beach. Biggest Channel Cat I have ever seen let alone caught, did not weight because I figured it was run of the mill for Erie. Sure was fun to fight! Sorry for the poor pics.
  8. Of those who are launching a boat, how deep you dipping truck and how is the debris situation getting out?
  9. I have been told by all who I asked that herring dont hold up in fresh water. Are you fishing cut plug or meat rigs? I would love to try drifting cut plug herring on the niagara bar
  10. Or better yet live herring (shocked) from the Bait box on Possession Point.... I do miss having crab pots full of dungeness to check at the end of the day.
  11. Nice Boat in the background there.... Kodiak?
  12. OK, did not consider the fact that I am NOT DaVinci's Vitruvian Man... arm span longer than height so when I pull my transducer and weight to the side of my boat I can reach the ball. I do however have to put up with comments from my family when sitting at the dinner table like "reach into the kitchen and grab something for me"
  13. Forgive me for pointing out the obvious here but you should not be handling the cables... not bad for cable but obviously not flesh friendly. If your not using already both scotty and cannon make a weight / retro retriever. I prefer the scotty but if you have terminated your rigger cable using a cannon kit you have to re do it. Crimp style terminators included with scotty retrievers. https://www.amazon.com/Scotty-Downrigger-Retriever-Fairlead-78-Inch/dp/B001M4HT0W
  14. Have not been on Lake O last 2 weeks but was at launch today and water is past grade and they built temp connection to floating docs. If you have bunks be prepared to put the truck in deep
  15. Good to hear about launch, sorry about fishing, re line a reel or bust out lunch, then they'll bite for sure
  16. TY for the report, if you dont mind me asking; How was the launch? bunk or roller trailer? How deep did you have to dip the truck? Still tons of debris?
  17. Both of these out of Olcott, right out front of 18 mile creek and about a mile east but it was in late April. With the conditions on ontario I am going to pick up walleye fishing, 1st time for me as I am from west coast. May do the same and swing out for some lakers if I am not catching anything as I am way more comfy fishing salmonids
  18. Picnic table LMAO... props aren't cheap either. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. I have noticed for the state run launches you can go to google maps, zoom in on the park for example Oak Orchard Marine Park and click the link in the left had pain to get to the park website. Heck you can just google the park name as well I am sure. For Golden hill there is a banner across the page stating launch closed until further notice. For Oak Orchard Marine Park there is nothing stating it is closed so I called the number. It is Open BUT the water is past the concrete abutments so you need boots to get to the floating doc and a buddy in the boat when you launch or some waders. Depending on your setup I would worry about rear axle getting water in in oil as well. If you get best of luck and let us know how you do.
  20. Fished for 5 years without one, had plenty of success but glad I have one now. I am pretty new with it and from experience this spring I have used it to find warmer water areas and it helped me focus on those areas with warmer water. As the year goes on I have read guys use them to find the thermocline where the water temps differ horizontally, often you can see this on a decent fish finder as well that I know from experience. Anyway back to what I have read is that guys use the fishhawk to set a spread just above or below the thermocline. With my previous boat I employed same tactic using my fish finder when I could see it or if I heard someone talk about it on the radio. I agree with what everyone is saying here, dont ignore the obvious, if you are marking fish go with it. Below is the link to the fishhawk chart if it lets me post it, thanks for the tip Heath. http://www.fishhawkelectronics.com/salmon-walleye-fishing/preferred-water-temperature
  21. HA, I was so obsessed with trying to make out the phone number I missed that entirely
  22. This was taken Sunday the 7th at the daisy barn campground, 3122 west lake road in Wilson Ny. Pic is from the road, (was with my wife and kids) I cannot make out the phone number for the life of me, just assumed I would be able to, my bad. I know nothing of the boat except they are asking $8500. Took it to post on a topic called "I give up" or "I give in" or something like that, it was someone who was ditching their fiberglass boat for an aluminum and wanted a islander specifically. Anyway I could not find the topic on my phone and gave up. If your close go take a look.
