Is 140 where you found 50 degrees? I wanted to go deeper, but my son just finished hockey camp and wanted to get out for a couple hours so I stayed in 130 feet and found 50 degrees at 90. Managed 2 before my son got too tired. Green glow meat rigs for birh. -
I have my brother and sister in law from NYC in town for the weekend. They want to fish Sunday, but the earliest we can get out is about 2 pm for maybe 3 hours...question is, are the fish eating in the mid afternoon? If it were me..I'd ne happy just being on the water, but I also want to get my brother in law on a fish or 2. Does the preferred color change as the sun gets higher? Thank you!!

Yet another question about sonar

10 pound ball, I was considering torpedo to eliminate blowback thinking it would bring it into my cone. -
Thank you for all the valuable info, someday I hope to pay it forward.

Yet another question about sonar
dhhurlburt replied to dhhurlburt's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Could I just use the 200hz? I know its designed for shallower water? I know that not seeing the ball isnt the end of the world, but it's my OCD -
Yet another question about sonar

Yes chirp, not positive of the frequency. -
Way back when I was in the Navy I was stationed in SC. There I had a boat and fished my butt off. When I would troll at depths of about 150ft and 10 knots SOW I could still see my ball on my sonar. Today, I have a 17ft aluminum with lowrance hook2 splitshot. I can not see my ball on the sonar down 50 feet trolling 2.5 mph SOG. I checked my transducer alignment, sensitivity settings....what am I missing?

I read info from the DEC that's says to target 53F for kings, but on here I read to target 48F. Recently that's been a 10 foot depth difference. Whata the go to temp target I need to pay attention to?

Do you troll spoons behind flashes, or stick to flies? Thank you
-
Left bear creek in ontario at 0530. First of 4 lines in at 0615 in 130 feet. Then whammo...a 22 pound king on a green flasher and fly. My son was in his happy place. He fought her like hell . The it was like a switch was flipped....nothing for 5 more hours. Didnt see anything consistent on the sonar. Trolled 130, then 150 then 180...nothing. Either way I had a great daily with my boy. Any ideas of Good spots to hit, I have some extra postage stamps to trade...

Whaler1....I'm getting all the pieces together for the downriggers and a couple rigs with dipsey divers. So far just trolled some stick baits in close and bounced some jigs for smallies. I launch out of bear creek in Ontario NY. Its not very busy and close to home NymphO...thanks for the info. Spoons seem to be the go to..maybe time for a new tackle box dedicated to spoons and flies

Good afternoon all, this is Dave and I'm new to the site. I've started pursuing trolling for lake fish as a means to spend time with my boys. I'm sure I'll ask all kinds of silly rookie questions, but my intentions are always good. I look forward to learning as much as I can from all you salty dogs. My very first question is what kind of setup is a good one for downrigger and a few reliable bait patterns. I am familiar with downrigger use..I spent many hours trolling the gulf stream while I was in the Navy stationed in Chsrelston. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You Dave
