  1. Just a follow up: I can tie in 30 or 40lb. Just wondering where the breaking point is. My main line will be 65lb braid to 30lb mono leader for diver to slide on then to flasher/fly leader. I would rather have a lighter leader to the fly so if I sang/break off I only lose the fly and not the dodger/flasher. Thus the question about 20lb leader to the fly. Thanks again, Bob
  2. I am planning to add the mylar skirt style and peanut flies to my offerings for spring. I have tied up several (sliding style). My question; Is 20lb flouro too light (not stiff enough) for the leader between the dodger/flasher and fly? Most of the youtube tutorials seem to indicate 30lb or bigger to produce the best action on the fly. I'll be fishing near shore for browns, steelhead and hopefully cohos and expect to pull these behind slide divers and inline planer boards. Thanks, Bob
  3. Thanks again guys. Whaler, I'm running 65lb Power Pro with a double uni to the 40lb Big game then bead and bead chain swivel to 7' Seagur Blu leader with crosslock snap. I pull mostly spoons and occasionally shallow diving crankbaits/minnows.
  4. Thanks for all the help guys....second question; will the divers slide freely on 40lb Big Game? testing them in my shop they seem to stick where the mono runs through the tubing. They slide fine if I eliminate the tubing and lock the front release directly on the 40lb Big Game but I'm worried about compromising the mono doing that? Thanks again, Bob
  5. I've been running inline boards for a few years now in skinny water from my 15' tiller boat. Next spring I will be adding lite bit slide divers to my offerings. Just wondering if there is a rule of thumb for lbs of pressure needed to trip the lite bite arm? I want the divers to trip instead of dragging around small fish but don't want them to "false trip." Anu help would be appreciated.
  6. Thanks Gambler...just looking for ways to get my spread more attention as I'm limited to the three rods.
  7. I'm fairly new to trolling and am having some success on the skinny water browns. I'm limited to near shore and calm weather as my boat is a 15' aluminum. Works great for me though. My question is does anyone run flasher, dodger, etc in front of their spoons or stick baits in the skinny water? Obviously they would be the smaller size. Just wondering if anyone has tried this or if it would even have any value. I usually fish alone so I am limited to three lures in the pattern and just wondering if a little added flash night be of any benefit.
  8. Yep...that's one of the resources I used when doing my restoration. Mine is the 14' commodore. Thanks for the info. It's amazing the knowledge and willingness to share on this site. I really appreciate it!
  9. The boat is a 1954 Larson Crestliner so very little information available. As far as I can tell doing some research it is rated for up to 30 horsepower
  10. I do have plenty of room upfront as it's usually only me in the boat. I see your out of Hughes. Thats where I've been launching. I'm sure we"ll cross paths someday.
  11. Right now I've got a little Johnson 8 on her. I have been able to troll down to 1mph no problem. She tops out at about 9mph so I'm not going far. I was out on Lale O yesterday and I was comfortable out to about 40ftw.
  12. That's the way I'm leaning. Thanks for the input!
  13. Better yet....could I run the rod line off the tow line like the big boards? Then I could reset without bringing the board in. I could build a set of big boards but my boat is a 14' tiller so very little space and im also thinking the big boards would make it difficult to steer.
  14. Looking for your thoughts on this...I may be way off base but is it possible to set up inline planer boards to run like the larger mast boards? I'm thinking of a small mast and tow line to the front inline release( replaced with permanent clip instead of release clip) and then release clips off the back to attach the rod line. I would only run one line per side and this would allow the rod line to release from the board. I have run inlines the way they are intended to be used and just haven't found a set up I like as I fish alone a lot and unclipping the board when landing a fish as well as fighting the board to the boat just doesn't do it for me. I have also rigged for the board to slide back to the swivel and really don't like that method either. My current boards are offshore OR12's.
  15. So, My buddy gifted me his 1954 Larson-Crestliner 14' aluminum. I have finished the rebuild and outfitted the boat with rod holders, etc. My hope is to troll near shore on Lake Ontario and the Finger Lakes. I've been a stream/river fly guy for 25 years so this is all new to me. Looking forward to learning from this site and the collective knowledge of it's members. I've attached a few pictures of the Susan~James.
