SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

====================

We pulled into the lakehouse around 10:30pm Friday night. On the water early Saturday with quite a few other boats in Mexico Bay. Planer boards out for 2 hours, but no hits. Ventured out to 50 FOW, marked a lot of bait fish and some larger marks on the bottom from 45 down. Tried the downriggers, but no hits. Heard other fishermen talking about it being pretty active west of Nine Mile, so picked-up and powered our way over there. Started in 40-50 FOW and moved out. Started marking a lot of good sized fish from 50-75 and again from 90-120. Downriggers & core lines were the producers. First, and only, boated fish was the 10-color core with a Michael Jackson Stinger. Nice Brown, approx 5.5lbs. Released. Few hits throughout the day, but nobody home. Called it a day around 5:30pm. Saturday was hot in the sun. Felt good. My fishing partner was hurting Sunday morning, though. :lol:

We were on the water earlier Sunday, started, again, in the Bay, with about 15 other boats. Same routine as Saturday, but only stayed there for about an hour before venturing out west of Nine-Mile again. Set-up in approx 90-100 FOW and set the downriggers and the core lines. First strike was on the 10-color core, with a 42-second flasher with an A-TOM-MIK green/black fly. My fishing partner for the Derby had never fished Lake Ontario before, and wanted to learn the way everyone else has to when they are starting out - by experimenting with different combinations. As he was reeling that 4lb 10oz Laker in, one of the downriggers fires and we have a double on. Boated the first Laker, released it, and went to work on the 2nd line. 127FOW, down 118, A-TOM-MIK white/blue fly 24" behind Lake Trolls. Nice fight from a 5lb 11oz Laker. Also released. Next hit was on the core with a Stinger Tourney Winner. Nice Steelie, almost 5lbs. We let it go, as well. We had a couple hits with nobody home throughout the day, again. Finally called it a day around 3pm.

Congrats to all the placers out west for the LOC. We'll get ya back in the fall! :rofl::lol:
