prop pitch

putting a 1992 50 horse mercury on my 16 foot starcraft and was looking for the proper pitch i should be using for this motor?

We would need to know a little more than boat and motor, do you have a tachometer ? what is the recommended top RPM for the motor ? what are you looking to get out of the prop ? by that I'm saying you can get a great hole shot by under pitching the prop which will also carry a greater load. If your trying to get the best top end you MAY not get on plane as quick.

Trolling can be a different evil... if your trying to slow down your boat pitch up a little and it will slip if you lower your pitch it will have more low end bite and troll faster.

3 blade or 4 ??? I just changed to a 4 blade on my 19 foot Lund because I wanted maximum speed and with that I downed my pitch. I got the best of both worlds 12% increase in speed and cruising RPM are perfect.

I'd have to guess your going to try a 17" prop on your Merc
