Splicing two short spools of 7 strand wire

We lost a bunch of wire from one of our dipsy rods. The question is can you splice with a small swivel or crimp two short spools/reels of wire to create on longer say 1000' spool or are we going to run into probles when we get a fish on.

I would say its possible, and I would do it witha #8 spro swivel, using a wire knot on each side. I have a similiar set up on my sliding dipsey and it works fine. With that said, its not the ideal situation, and you might be best off during the off season buying a new spool.
