Just upgraded my boat, and am looking to do the same for a depth/fishfinder. Do not want a gps combo.

Looking at possible the Furuno 4100TM or 6100. Anyone use these? Or looking for suggestions on others.

Don't want the rolls royce version, just a good dependable unit.

I would go with the color unit from Furuno, the FCV 620 or the 585. I have the 620, and it is an awesome unit. I am seeing things on the color unit that were invisible on the monochrome. I am not sure what price range you are looking at, but the 620 is under $800 with the transom mount triducer.
