  1. e-net - Mechanic & quaified marine surveyor are good tips. Take a read through this article. http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/buying.htm Myself, I'd get a written warranty. Tom B. (LongLine)
  2. DM - reply got zapped so here it is again. Less than 12 and greater than 68 are the normal channels. 3 for a fleet of garbage trucks in Rochester, 9 usually for hailing, 13 for commercial to seaway control, 16 for distress 22 for CG to CG & 28 for the French broa...er...lady. Best to scan & find the channel of the day. Tom B. (LongLine)
  3. Given the choices: 1. Own guns, shoot Bambi, eat veal 2. Own veal, shoot guns, eat Bambi or 3. Own Bambi, shoot veal, eat guns I'd probably vote for choice #2 as murder & owning someone are illegal . oh...you mean the deer story? ... IMO - If you're not going to eat it, then practice C&R. Tom B. (LongLine)
  4. Hey Y.T. - Try salmon fishing solo sometime. Then it's 4 one. Waves, boat, gear & fish against the fisherman. Tom B. (LongLine)
  5. Site get zapped again??? I got 3 emails about replies to topics but don't see any :?: no postings for today either. :?: Tom B. (LongLine)
  6. Ray - I don't speak computereese so all I can say is that when you do get on the site then add the main page as a favorite again. It should overwrite any previous address your computer was remembering. If that don't work then depress the Caps Lock key so everything is in capital letters, hold the left control key down and drop an 8Lb "herbie" on the "H" key while swearing violently. (won't help you get on the site but you'll probably feel better after you show your computer who's boss) Tom B. (LongLine)
  7. Stix - 7th & 16th. WTG. Read you post earlier and I'm guilty of a non-reply. Guess I deserve 10 lashes with a banana peel. (I haven't had anything intelligent to say lately & haven't been able to get out either.) BTW - sog = speed over ground or speed on graph? Tom B. (LongLine)
  8. nc-03 Sounds like you had a banner day. (I had to work all frig'n day) By all means post the pix. Tom B. (LongLine)
  9. Welcome aboard TJ. You'll find a great bunch of guys here with a lot of Big-O experience. Sometimes they even catch a fish or two. Tom B. (LongLine)
  10. Unless it was in the middle of a ragboat ragata  Tom B. (LongLine)
  11. You sure it's a Sea "Sprite"? I never heard of them either so I did a search on them & all I can come with are "ragboats". Tom B. (LongLine)
  12. Look at the entire lake view. The cold surface water from the entire lake has formed an E-W running elipse that is quite close to the southern shore. You'd expect it to be somewhat symetrical to the center E-W line of the lake but it's definitely pushed southward. Very possible some fog banks formed. Tom B. (LongLine)
  13. Hank - Thanx. Guess I'll have to stay off that color scheme. Go'K' - Yes there were many. That's why I took the picture. (frustration) Guess I'll have to start putting the top up on days like that & go back to other screens. Maybe I should put a strike-vision on my christmas list. D'B' - Looked to me like Nessie (Bessie) left many "calling cards". Tom B. (LongLine)
  14. Hey Stix- WTG. 13.12 is a nice fish. Should be in the money. Tom B. (LongLine) ps we knew central was going to have some nice ones this year
  15. Ok you guys – Just East of the river on Sat, solo again. 85-120 FOW. Had 1 release on the high line at 60 ft but otherwise just enjoyed the sunshine. We had a brief storm Fri night & temps dropped about 15 deg overnight. Crystal clear sky on Sat morn. 54.5F on surface, gradual to 49.5F on the bottom. West wind with 2ft waves. Occasional small white cap. Had a very “activeâ€Â
  16. FB - The "dot.com" is put up daily. It's backed up on the "dot.net" generally a day or two later. which one are you visiting? Tom B. (LongLine)
  17. Congratulations. Definitely a keeper. Enjoy it while their young because before you know it, he'll be beating you the rod and saying "here Dad, you take it, it's a little one" Tom B. (LongLine)
  18. I had a broken paddlewheel a couple months back. Had to drive to Buffalo for company so called Moor to see if I could pick one up on my way back. Stopped in around lunch time. Got shooting the breeze with Duane, who really know these things. Ended up buying a few other parts & left happy. Bottom Line: Top marks for Excellent service. Tom B. (LongLine)
  19. USGS operates the Kaho: NYSDEC operates the Seth Green. Seth Green is smaller than Kaho. Both used for preyfish assessment on Big-O. Seth Green usually makes the cross lake trawls & hydroacoustic surveys. Lots of other research also done with both on Big-O. Tom B. (LongLine)
  20. ITB - I believe the rod/reel King salmon record is 97 Lb caught in Alaska (cerca '85) however bigger have been reported netted. Also the world record "greaser" is larger than that pictured. However, if any of us caught a 50 Lb'r in Big-O, we'd need a new pair of nickers  Tom B. (LongLine)
  21. Definitely Rudd http://www.wiscfish.org/fishid/frames.aspx Tom B. (LongLine) (Click on the name of the fish)
  22. Good news from the 2006 DEC annual report is that the goby population has leveled off but the bad news is that they're getting bigger so the overall biomass in Big-O is roughly the same as last year. Tom B. (LongLine)
  23. Definitely pop the rigger if you ever start to get frustrated. Amazing how many fish I've caught that way over the years. I never raise the rigger to release line when changing lures, checking for seaweed or calling it a day. Love Blacks for that very reason :!: :!: tip: pop the rod then put it in back in rod holder immediately, then raise rigger. This gives lure a little time to flutter down, then come up. Even a little one will give you a jolt. Tom B. (LongLine)
  24. Best site I've seen for fish ID http://www.wiscfish.org/fishid/frames.aspx This is the stuff tax $ should be spent on :!: Tom B. (LongLine)
  25. Ray - Glad you got it. sorry couldn't answer earlier, got kicked off computer last nite so went out & painted trailer. That does have to be one of the neatest sites around though. Who said there's no structure in Big-O :?: :?: :?: You can also use the "identify" feature to get info & GPS coordinates. Tom B. (LongLine)
