  1. That's what it's all about. Welcome to the site. Tom B. (LongLine)

  3. This is amazing. Must have taken a lot of hard work to locate. Tom B. (LongLine)
  4. A lot off good points made in this thread. Just some thoughts: Survival rates are in the 7-15% range and they do fluctuate from year to year. Pen rearing has definitely helped returns to certain ports, however survival rates outside the pens are a different subject. . Percentages of wild fish are percentages of those returning. The hatchery does see thousands every year however that is a long ways from millions. . A lot of charters that don't catch some decent Kings in a limited time will often target other species. i.e. Lakers & browns that BTW are getting huge. Along with the legal length limit, there's also a daily limit. Tom B. (LongLine)
  5. If you got a license, keep your legal catch if you want to. No problem there. Ruff Rider - of the 3 mil fish, only 1.5/1.7m are kings. Unfortunately survival rates are not even close to 100%. Tom B. (LongLine)
  6. The spoons that you change to single will wobble more at slower speeds, however will spinout sooner as you speed up. If you want the same action at the same speeds then you have to bend them a little. The singles while being lighter also have less drag in the water. Tom B. (LongLine)
  7. Yes the 8 or 10 Lb herbies (fish shaped) will help you with blowback. Also the thinner wire (140#) will help reduce blowback. Tom B. (LongLine)
  8. Get yourself a spark plug light at Harbor Freight. (cheap) Make sure you've got fire on all 3 cylinders. 70's are very thirsty engines. If your using a lot of gas, sounds like you're just not burning it properly. Tom B. (LongLine)

  10. The only spoons I haven't switched out to singles are my DWSS. Tom B. (LongLine)
  11. Before messing with carbs, make sure your sparking all your cylinders. 9 mph full throttle is classic when you've only got two cylinders firing. (Did it once i.e. loose plug connection) Tom B. (LongLine)
  12. Catch that cable just once in the prop & I'll guarantee you'll come up with a way to mount them in the back corners of you boat. Tom B. (LongLine)
  13. The grease allows the drag washers to slip when a fish first hits & takes line. i.e. prevents sticking. Alan Tani recommends greasing. so I've done that for many years & never had an issue with my penns. http://alantani.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=lv09hvob4dl8u9r2qq3vb5qrh5&board=2.0 Tom B. (LongLine)
  14. Reel it in till about 6 ft from tip. Put tip in water then whip it out of the water as fast as you can. Generally that'll cut the buggers right off. Tom B. (LongLine)
  15. That is very possible. The boat safety course has a section about not letting anyone swim around boats in a marina for that very reason. Tom B. (LongLine)
  16. If you're going to put the crimp between the legs of the black's release on an un-coated cable, you'll need something bigger than the standard rigger crimp. I buy foot long pieces of 1/16" copper tubing at Home Depot & cut it about 1/2" long. When it crimps, it's much bigger than the holes in the release and won't slip thru. On coated wire I sometimes do the same or I use an electrical crimp which are crimped on top of a plastic tube ( like what comes on a can of WD-40 spray) Doesn't hurt the coated cable at all as the plastic extends thru the release legs. 17. Actually the only cure for sea-sickness is to find an 18" diameter Oak or Maple tree and hug the "heck" out of it for about 2 minutes. Tom B. (LongLine)
  18. I can make that for you out of wood but I would strongly advise against using wood. The pipe will eventually crush the wood grains and go out of shape. Also swelling and contraction will be a problem. Tom B. (LongLine)
  19. With everything off you have a charge????? Is your battery in a plastic box? Tom B. (LongLine)
  20. You'd save yourself a lot of anxiety if you use a rigg'r board. Mount your rigg'rs on the board. Have you board screw down into the tracks if you like. Remove the whole thing when/if you want a "clean" gunwale. Tom B. (LongLine)
  21. I'm a lousy artist. That's the clip that attaches the swivel to the ball. Tom B. (LongLine)
  22. If you know a person is apt to get sea-sick, let them drive the boat. It gives them something to concentrate on rather than the motion of the boat. Tom B. (LongLine)
  23. Ditto Tim. Big-O is an entirely different eco-system. Tom B. (LongLine)
  24. WTG. That's quite a porker. Tom B. (LongLine)
  25. This time of year, a look at surface temps will give you an indication of upwellings. Best to go by down temps to fish the right depth. Tom B. (LongLine)
