  1. Welcome to the site. I bet your Rochester promotes the fishery more than our Rochester does. Tom B. (LongLine)
  2. Welcome to the site. As long as you have a license, you're entitled to the same as a NY resident. You'll have to check guidebook that you get with your license. Possession & size limits as well as seasons depend on the water you're fishing. Tom B. (LongLine)
  3. Good Lord willing, I will be, but the other way. Tom B. (LongLine)
  4. Welcome to the site. Nice looking rig. You don't happen to make a fish call do you? Tom B. (LongLine)
  5. 1. Put a plate larger tan the base of the holders on top of the seat then attach the holders to it. You'll need to spread the load at the base if you want any kind of secure attachment. The leverage generated by rods will be great & just about everything will rip out of thru 1/16" aluminum. 2.If permanent - ever consider drywall toggles? replace the screw with stainless) 3. Cover the whole seat with a wide x long piece of wood, securely screw or bolt/washer nut thru it. Board can probably be in just the four corners and can be made so it's removable. 4. Cover the whole seat with a thicker piece of aluminum - same as #3. Aluminum is easy to cut & shape. I don't have a pic of the size of the seat, but I'd seriously consider screwing or riveting two 2" wide strips of 1/4" aluminum to the seat. One at each end of the seat. Then cut wood or aluminum to span the two and screw it to them. This way you'd have an air space under it and you can make it removable if you want to sit in the seat sometime. Tom B. (LongLine)
  6. Definitely an Atlantic. Very nice. Tom B. (LongLine)
  7. Kersplash, kersplosh…YAY…the boat runs! Made it to the river launch around 5. Put her in & blew out the smoke. (Nice having new bearings on the trailer.) Ramps clean. Water a little low but no issues with the solo launch. Watch the shallow cleat on ramp #3 – Board is loose. Anyways, clear sky, very slight south wind. Pretty strong currents in the river. Some wood floating around but no problems if you keep your eyes open. Nothing really big. River temp 44.5F & all mud. Depth looks like about 21-22 ft. (Must have lost some weight as life jacket fit.) After put-ting to the mouth, opened her up to make sure all okay then came back to set up & headed west. Mud plume off towards I-bay. Temp past 30 FOW was 37F. (brrr…) Made it almost to Russell when this porker hit the rigg’r: Guessing 7-8 Lbs. Clean & fat. Wonderbread NK down 7 over 13FOW. 2 ¾ mph. Temp in that area was 42. Continued weaving in & out playing the 10-20 fOW area, past the pond the back to the river & tried the east side. (Past Russell, the water was cold. Like 37-38.) Saw nothing on the return so headed out to 60 FT where I picked up a hitch-hiker: Did see quite a bit of activity on the screen at the bottom of 40FT on the east side but no takers. Oh well, it’s been a long winter and felt good to be able to get out again. Hopefully the snow we get on Tuesday will be all gone by Thursday & I’ll be at it again next weekend. Pulled everything in around 10:30. No problems pulling out. Two other trailers at the launch. Don't forget to you pull your drain plugs & check trailer over for ant weeds. (I didn't have any) Luck to all, Tom B. (LongLine)
  8. Thanx Joe. Ramp looked good this morning. Tom B. (LongLine)
  9. I was just down there this evening. Ramps have been cleaned up and city has installed their money machine. Access is quite rough so make sure you slow way down. New mayor wants to make it "low" income housing per the 31st meeting down there. Tom B. (LongLine)
  10. The NYS says "3 lines per person". It doesn't say anything about an age minimum. There is also a law about all lines being "attended". So bottom line (pun intended) is to use your common sense. If your child can handle a rod and reel it in then yes he/she is entitled to run 3 lines. (rods) Tom B. (LongLine)
  11. Thanx guys. Tom B. (LongLine)
  12. Anyone know how much ice is still on Black Lake? Tom B. (LongLine)
  13. The "money hooch" is still there and some trees are fenced off, as in being protected from the construction, so I'd guess it's still available. Tom B. (LongLine)
  14. I always run the upper line shorter. Theory being if a fish follows it but doesn't like he probably fades back and goes back down. Then "whamo" he has the second lure right in his face. Tom B. (LongLine)
  15. I stack one rigger 90% of the time and can't remember having a tangle. My stacker is generally 7-10 ft above the lower. Have never done the 1/2 way thing. Tom B. (LongLine)
  16. I've been using Penn 320 GT2 for a long time. They're great for me. Smooth drags and easy to rebuild by Do-it-yourselfer. What ever reel you get, make sure it has a smooth dependable drag. Reel is more important than rod on the Big-O. Tom B. (LongLine)
  17. Ditto Tim - NK's work better for me running faster than the thinner spoons. However putting a single hook on them gives better wobble running slower. Tom B. (LongLine)
  18. The ground on the sub-T is the bottom connection so don't be concerned with painted ball or not. Definitely recommend the "torpedo" or "rocket/missle" shaped weight for minimizing blowback. The 220 Lb line definitely provides more blowback than the 150Lb. The important part of using it is to be able to located temp and to be able to duplicate the speed of your lure when you catch a fish. Many guys will slow down to land a fish and some even put it in neutral (which I highly advise against). You want to be able to duplicate your lure action. Browns, Stlhds, Cohos, Atlantics and last year many Lakers were found above the slob Kings. Those guys known for catching the slobs fish the cold water, but also have a lot of other lines out to cover warmer water. Myself having only 3 lines generally put the probe with one line on it in the cold water and two on the other above it. King will look up and it's awful easy to be fishing below a lot of fish on Big-O. Sometimes I'll only have a couple feet difference between rig's but the probe carries a 14 Lb homemade weight but the other is a 10 Lb fish. Tom B. (LongLine)
  19. Never seen a shark, but hooked a Northern off the river once, Got him to the side of the boat after 30 minutes or so and he broke off. Was about 8"....between the eyes!. Tom B. (LongLine)
  20. Welcome to the site guys. Let us know how the fishing in De & Md is too. Tom B. (LongLine)
  21. Look somewhat like spoon-plugs to me. Tom B. (LongLine)
  22. However you attach the lure, make sure you tune it for best action. Some guys are always hunting for the best way to attach the lure but it's secondary and sometimes thirdly to having a well tuned lure. Tom B. (LongLine)
  23. Hi troller. Welcome to the site. Another week and I'm sure the guys will be posting reports. Tom B. (LongLine)
  24. Are those "V" ones Pine Valley? Tom B. (LongLine)
  25. Saw my first flock of Canada Geese for the year, honking away today. Must have been 250-300 of them in one huge Vee. Unfortunately they were flying south..... Tom B. (LongLine)
