Happy Birthday Larry Tom B. (LongLine)

Take a look at the current your engine/electrical system can put out. I don't know what kind of rig you're fishing out of, but make sure you can support the additional load. Past 70 ft & you'll need a 10 or 12 Lb weight. Tom B. (LongLine)

My 500 does the same thing with really large bait pods. Never had the weight issue though. (knock on wood) Tom B. (LongLine)

No, sorry, I’d share, but I don’t smoke, snort, shoot nor ingest that stuff. The problem with research is that for every question that is answered, at least 5 more questions pop up. I don’t think anyone doubts we live in an ever changing world. It should be expected if they’re right that the earth’s guts are like liquid & the poles (north & south…not Ray K) are continually shifting…. Can man alter his environment? Here’s an interesting picture…Know where it is? Hints: Population now close to 1 million…Home of Mazda and Mitsubishi. . . . . . Answer: Nagasaki (Hiroshima looks very similar) & you ought to see their travel brochures! Very often I see deer on the East side of St Paul St, just north of the Bausch Bridge. (But don’t hunt there as they’ve installed one of those “gunshot detectors†nearby) I’ve even seen them Skinny-dipping in I-Bay. Guess they've moved back to the city. Can man mess things up? Certainly. Ducky got discombobulated by listening to panic striken/emotional appeals. There would not have been any story if the duck had asked a few questions or required confirmation of the event. (Real short story if Henny had pulled out a chain saw & went back to the scene.) I have a major issue with “authorities†promoting pseudo-scientific campaigns, claiming endorsement from currently popular theory, when in fact they wouldn’t pursue it, if not for tax credit angles &/or bonuses for pulling it off. Especially when they're requested to provide substantiation of proposals for their inefficient contraptions they reply “That’s all you need to know†or “We’re not releasing that informationâ€, I get a little irked. Their guise is of helping the environment yet they know little environmental history in the areas, what they risk digging up, whose lives they’ll disrupt or which species could be endangered. They don't even drink the water. Obviously. I’m referring to offshore wind. On one hand they’re shouting “the weather is changingâ€, yet they want us to pay them to make us more dependent on the weather. Man…talk about non-sequiter. Figures don’t lie but liars can figure. Maybe (that’s a big maybe) an individual could be successful with a small turbine, but it’s utility scale stupidity. There’s absolutely no reason utility scale power generators couldn't at least preheat the steam-water geothermally. Oops, this thread is about 15% ethanol. The only good thing about that is that you guys won’t have as much competition out there, if I use it. It’ll kill my outboard. Tom B. (LongLine)

It started out as “global warming†then it subtly took the name of “climate change.†Now many are saying that we’re approaching a “mini-ice age†as the Gulf flow appears to be slowing down and the east coast & south have been getting record cold/snow/freezes in the last couple years. (Couple years ago el Nino/la Nina were all the rage.) I wonder if they’re ever going to start looking at the Sun cycles. None of the “climate change†proponents seem to ever mention anything about them. We’ve had some major flares in the last couple years. Chicken Little likes to walk in the woods. She likes to look at the trees. She likes to smell the flowers. She likes to listen to the birds singing. One day while she is walking something hits the top of her little head. - My, oh, my, the sky is falling. I must run and tell the lion about it, - says Chicken Little and begins to run. She runs and runs. By and by she meets the hen. - Where are you going? - asks the hen. - Oh, Henny Penny, the sky is falling and I am going to the lion to tell him about it. - How do you know it? - asks Henny Penny. - It hit me on the head, so I know it must be so, - says Chicken Little. - Let me go with you! - says Henny Penny. - Run, run. So the two run and run until they meet Ducky Lucky. - The sky is falling, - says Henny Penny. - We are going to the lion to tell him about it. - How do you know that? - asks Ducky Lucky. - It hit Chicken Little on the head, - says Henny Penny. - May I come with you? - asks Ducky Lucky. - Come, - says Henny Penny. So all three of them run on and on until they meet Foxey Loxey. - Where are you going? - asks Foxey Loxey. - The sky is falling and we are going to the lion to tell him about it, - says Ducky Lucky. - Do you know where he lives? - asks the fox. - I don't, - says Chicken Little. - I don't, - says Henny Penny. - I don't, - says Ducky Lucky. - I do, - says Foxey Loxey. - Come with me and I can show you the way. He walks on and on until he comes to his den. - Come right in, - says Foxey Loxey. They all go in, but they never, never come out again. Hades must be awful crowded with all the non-Christians down there. Ever wonder how oil is initially produced? Most say it only comes from decaying fossils. Ask yourself how did all the fossils in the world end up in those particular places? Especially in places like the Gulf where that big asteroid landed & drastically altered life on earth? Tom B. Trolling Spoon Action
LongLine replied to sszoldra's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
If they're thin spoons then definitely yes. Thicker spoons aren't affected as much. You can play around trying to find equal weight hooks but the treble offers more resistance in the water due to it's greater surface area. Trebles will allow you to troll a little faster before the lure "spins-out." Conversely, Singles allow you to troll slower before the lure action dies. (with no tuning) However, if your good at tuning the lure, most of the action can be put back into the lure. Tom B. (LongLine) -

Happy BD SB. Tom B. (LongLine) -
Baitfish seem to be up. Smelt numbers increase definitely surprised a lot of people this year. Heck of a lot of little salmon caught this year everywhere on the lake. Fishing pressure was down but catches were up. So the question is should a new salmon rod & reel be on your Christmas list? HEL[ YES...It's gonna be a great year! (But be prepared to go deep) Tom B. Stan I suspect we all have downriggers. The first patented one was the "hirty-girty" which was 1st used on the "left coast." Of course they stole the concept from some indians fishing the great Lakes in the 1800's Tom B. (LongLine)

kliph Fleas (There’s a way to do it other than just spray a mess) Ernie Send me some “3F†bulk spools (free, fresh, & full) & I will. Actually, what I found really interesting was the stretch & the return to length when the load was released. Kind of makes you wonder what stress is put on the reel spool after you’ve reeled in a fish & finally land it. Tom B. (LongLine) BTW – DO NOT use it on auto door hinges!

So here’s a researcher stating that just raising & lowering water levels on the St Lawrence can release toxins from the sediments. And some people say I’m “strange†because I believe construction of foundations & transmission lines in USEPA Areas of Concern is a major mistake. http://www.healthcanal.com/environmenta ... rthed.html Tom B. A USGS press release announcing they received a “partners in conservation†award: From the mouth of Sec of the Interior Ken Salazar http://www.usgs.gov/newsroom/article.asp?ID=2613 The DEC shared in the award. It’s nice to know that the guy who has the final voice on the sitting of off-shore turbines publicly recognizes how important our National Treasures (the Great Lakes) are to the people. Tom B. Some guys have said that WD-40 “hurts†fishing line, so I decided to play myth-buster. I took two lengths of line off an unused spool; tied each end to an “s†hook with Palomar knots; suspended them from a board; attached a 10# weight to them; sprayed one with WD-40 and let hang undisturbed down in the basement for a week. The line was 15# PLine CXX. Unsprayed line was initially 30 ½†knot to knot. Sprayed line was 31 ¾â€. The weight stretched the unsprayed line immediately to 33 ½â€. The sprayed line immediately stretched to 35â€. Both lines were measured every night. No further stretch was observed. Neither line broke after 7 days. Weights were just removed about an hour ago. The unsprayed line returned to 30 ¾†and the sprayed one returned to 32 1/8â€. The unsprayed line felt dry and the sprayed one felt “oily.†Both lines were smooth and straight. I couldn’t see any splits, nicks, etc on either line with a magnifier. I tied an overhand knot in the middle of each line and gave each 3 good tugs, at arm’s length, to tighten the knots. Both made a pretty good “boing†noises on the tugs. Neither line broke. My conclusion – it didn’t hurt this line. Tom B. (LongLine) BTW: there’s no “fish oil†in WD-40.

yeah but the 7th one from the left is out. Chad - You better get the ladder back out & send Musky up to fix it. Tom B. (LongLine)
