  1. This weekend on the water near Rochester I heard someone hailing on the VHF looking for fellow LOU members for a fishing report. Very quickly someone responded and provided depth, speed and temp info. As a guy who listens, but rarely uses my VHF, it was reassuring to know that not only are people loyal to this website when on their computers dreaming of fishing but also when out on on their boats. Every day I sit at work, trudging through the day, I constantly check this site. As I read the well wishes to a Captain who lost his father, advice on companies not to deal with, the musings of Ray K., up to the minute fishing reports, and endless tips, it just makes me marvel at what a great tool this site really is. Thanks to those who run it and all who contribute. I couldn't place 5 faces with 5 names on this board....but salmon chasing/fishing wouldn't be 1/2 as fun without it!
  2. Got out from 7-8:30 pm. 135 to 155 ft. a little East of the Bay. SW shifting to W wind brought some pretty good waves and the break up to about 50 feet down. What had been down 75-80 feet was now 25 ft. higher. Did 1 nice coho in the 10lb. range. Bleak screen otherwise, no bait and just a few marks. Great weekend on the water, fishing, tubing and finally gave the boat the good wash it deserved!
  3. I was put there. Set up in 150 and worked out to 210. A few marks, 1 hooked and lost and 2 knock offs. Slow, but first time out in 3 weeks and nice morning to be on the water.
  4. Thanks, I'll try the suggestions. At first I was definitely putting them down too quick. Then made sure I put good tension on it instead of just throwing it over and then lowering line. I'll keep trying.
  5. I have tried rubber bands so many times I could spit. I have tried different length leaders, lure sizes, distance between lures, leader sizes and drop speeds, and no matter what I do they come up 10 minutes later so helicoptered around each other I know it has been spinning around the main line for 10 minutes. I have finally just decided it may be something about the way my boat and set-ups run through the water? Anybody have any thoughts that might help me? I have seen how deadly this set up can be on some days.
  6. Very thorough report, Thanks. I was out Friday night and found the same. I stayed in 70-85 and got into the 2 year olds real good. Did 8 fish in about a 2 hour period between 8 and 10 pm. Even did a laker 35 over 70 that fought surprisingly hard. Anything with purple was the ticket for us. Interestingly, no sign of lampreys on any of ours. Real quiet night to be on the water, threat of storms really must have scared people away. Never ventured out deeper because I have driven away from fish way too many times, sounds like the 3 year olds were out deeper with you. Got to test out my new spreader lights and it was like fishing in daylight. There is a sense of satisfaction when the money spent on gadgets pays off, I woulda pulled at sunset before and missed some good action. Bumped around Sunday morning for about 90 minutes with one lost on a wire dipsey, nothing else to show.
  7. Hey Fishtails, saw you rigging rods a few times as we went back and forth to the island in our tender boat. You staying in the cottage/room right in front of your boat? I almost puked when I read you didn't have a crew....I had a crew and no boat starting Thursday due to trolling motor problem. I would have paid you to take us out!
  8. You were not alone, John. I went to the Bar for the first time last year and had a GREAT week. 5-6 kings a day and built up to 23 fish (mostly kings) on Friday. This year was total opposite. SKUNKED, yes skunked, Sunday-Tuesday and then 3 cohos on a 1/2 day Wednesday. I would have been totally embarassed except the chatter was not good and the fish cleaning station had a lot of lakers and coho's at it. Very few kings caught, the ones that were had stomachs full of alewifes. It was very discouraging. Throw in a midweek day off for a funeral and then blowing the lower unit on my trolling motor and I threw in the towel early and enjoyed the cottage, casino and other local favorite haunts for the last couple days. On the bright side, had a great cottage, a lot of laughs with other guys and Wilson is a great port to stay at. Saw a lot of familiar boats from the board and I am anxious to hear how they did.
  9. I am at Mayers also. Wellcraft 210 Coastal. Just Fishin' but name not on boat. Blue Bimini and just added Atlantic Towers fishing arch. Mainly weekends, and occasional weekday morning except during derby time. Headed to Wilson this weekend for all next week.
  10. I will be out of Wilson from Saturday-Saturday. Wellcraft 210 Coastal. Give me a shout, I would be glad to let you know how we are doing.
  11. Thanks Hans, I thought of just e mailing you direct....don't think there are too many setups you haven't seen. As I rigged it last night I had a flashback to my first solo salmon outing. Threw a dipsey out on some woefully light line and watched the dipsey and lure drift away and sink. Just wasn't thinking it through before putting it out.
  12. Used smaller slide divers before and now want to try the size 1. Is 20lb mono strong enough for this big of a disc?
  13. I 2nd. Upgrady. I do have my 3rd rigger gimbal mounted. I do not use that rigger regularly, but when I do it does twist back and forth a bit. This can be annoying as the day goes on and you keep jerking your head back every time you see it rock a little thinking there is a hit! I am generally happy with mine as it gives me a little extra attack on hot rigger bite days, but would never run my main riggers exclusively from the gimbals.
  14. Screamer, I PM'd you back. Feel free to give me a call re: my installation experience.
  15. Would be nice to get a warm spell a week earlier instead of the week the derby starts. Keep our fingers crossed!
  16. Tim, are they still fighting over where to store the boom this summer? That may hold things up. Something in Buffalo News a few weeks ago about that.
  17. Amazing what a difference 2 days warm weather can make.
  18. Looks AWESOME! You will enjoy her that much more after doing all that work. Best of luck.
  19. 1989 we got 12 inches of heavy snow during the first week in May in one storm...so you never know. Lots of bimini's were damaged that week! Just be cautious about what you leave up and on your boat. I was supposed to go to a soccer tourney in Columbus this weekend with daughter, it just got cancelled due to unplayable fields. I am like a kid on Christmas with a bonus weekend to get the boat prepped!
  20. I have had better luck with the Daiwa's than the Okuma's.
  21. The cottage I stayed in last year was about that size!
  22. All good points Hans. I suspect we will have to do our own petitions at some point in the future because this issue is gathering steam instead of going away like it should. Would love to hear from others if they have any more inside information. Re; the trip, How come the memory of the Mexican sun has faded so quick, but the damage from the alcohol consumption is forever! Actually, it was a great family trip, real low key and great weather. Really enjoyed Key West and had even more fun in Cozumel this time. Snorkeling was tremendous. Makes our lakes biological habitat look dead.
  23. With the swinging of the bridge on April 1 come the annual complaints about the inability for motorists to traverse Monroe County by the quickest possible route. There is a growing movement by the local Democrats in power to extend the driving season at the expense of boaters/fisherman. I am becoming increasingly concerned that the bridge closure will be extended to include October and April, both months that many of us fish and utilize the outlet. Going back several years I was told that the seasons of use will never change because the Coast Guard knows we are boating in the bay in those months and a change will require their approval. They need to get into the bay if the bay is being heavily used. I do not know if the need for their approval is still true today. I am just throwing this out to ask fellow fisherman to continue be vigilant in their efforts to remind our local politicians that we are taxpayers and constituents who want the outlet open during these months. Changing the season is rapidly becoming a big issue to certain politicians in Irondequoit and on the county level. At a recent Town Board meeting when the issue came up the Supervisor looked directly at Councilwoman Aldersley and smiled. Ever since Aldersley was a County Legislator this has been her pet project. She will not be happy until the dates are changed! The rights of the motorists seem much more important in the eyes of many. The "escape route" from Ginna hysteria is still a nice public safety argument and the Hot Dog Row businesses won't let this die as evidenced by their constant petitions. I don't mean to ramble...but we need to be voicing our opinions too!
  24. I have always had work done by Steve's Custom Canvas on County Line Road, Webster. Nothing is cheap, but good quality work.
