  1. Bunks have rotted off my trailer and one of the support plates broke when the bunk came off. Any recomendations for a trailer repair service in the Rochester area?
  2. Hmm, that is a good start. Coming back in, should I stop when I get to my dock?
  3. Skipper19, thanks for the info. Being new to the Oak I would appreciate any other info people may have about Oak navigation.
  4. Been using Special Mate's for years, love them.
  5. Nice photo's, thanks for sharing. My mouth waters looking at that striper!
  6. Was in a blue fish blitz off of Stratford CT one time and we had 3 trolling rods, 2 surface plugs and a seagull all going at one time. Those birds fight like hell and seem very large when you bring them in. I was screaming for help and my crewmates wouldn't budge til they had their fish in. Had to throw a coat over him and take hook out. Ever since then, when I see a bird checking out a plug I pray he finds it unattractive. Nice fish Anthony.
  7. Sticking just to how it will affect fishing: the structures will attract bait fish, which will attract salmon and we can't go near them. That right there should damage fishing enough to cause us great concern.
  8. http://www.democratandchronicle.com/app ... 0104110353 This article was in the paper this weekend in Rochester. Glad to see that the Genesee Charter Association is proactively dealing with the issue. As stated in the article there has been little complaint by county residents so far. We all should be concerned that there is so little opposition to this by the public, at this point. I plan on speaking with several members of the County Legislature and hope that others on this site will do the same. At the county level politicians do still listen to their constituents, as our other friends around the lake have prevailed so far.
  9. Way to go Anthony, nice fish. Way to get the season off to a good, early start.
  10. Do yourself a favor and take Bruce's advice. He has the equip. and knowhow to "teach" you firsthand. I know it is tough to pay for a charter when you have a boat already, but what you will lose, break and buy uneccesarily on your boat will far outcost the price of a one time charter. Besides, your kids will be hooked forever when they catch fish the first time out. Welcome to a great fishery!
  11. Saw a photo of a modified Klincher and reference to an old post about how to rig this (looks like the addition of a thru bolt etc) can anybody point me to the discussion that talks about exactly how to do this? Thanks in advance.
  12. I can tell you what "Not" to do. We took a charter that raced around stellwagon bank and cape cod bay trying to spot feeding schoolies and then throw plugs at them. I know it has been successful on some days (Spanish Fly episode filmed with my same Captain in October 2009, the week before I went out), but not for us. Never saw a school or fish and went 35 mph for 8 hours! Real frustrating thing was we saw some caught trolling but we had a Captain married to his way of fishing and no fallback plan. Catching a 80 lb tuna on a surface plug would be a blast, but it didn't happen for me.
  13. Great point, if I were to do it again I would by the Auto Pilot first.
  14. Two words Anthony.....Atlantic Towers. Worth the money in quality, can run your planer reels, lights, antenna, etc and would look awesome on your boat.
  15. Thanks for the info. I appreciate hearing about your experience. I do know people who have taken this class/trip and they have had a blast and been reasonably successful. Certainly not everyone up there is catching a trophy salmon, but I probably have no chance of catching a 60 lb. king in Lake Ontario! The fact you saw a 72 pounder being caught tells me I at least wanna try. The class date is set after this years run to help with the timing so hopefully we catch the run. We also fish Cook Inlet, the Russian River and a glacial lake, or they adapt to whatever is best that week. I love Lake Ontario and appreciate the resource, if the trip makes me appreciate it more, great, but the mere chance to catch a real big king and do it in that scenery is something I have always wanted to do. If I come back without a trophy salmon but some halibut and a lot of pictures of great scenery, it will still be a great trip. Again, thanks for the info.
  16. I learned of this fishing opportunity from another LOU member who has already done it one time. We have a trip scheduled this June. After years of wanting to make an Alaska trip I am finally in a position to do so. Only worry is if they don't fill the class it will get canceled. In this economy that is a real worry. Price is so good there is even a local Soldotna resident that attends every year because you can't do the excursions separately and eat for this price. Hope Moderators don't mind me posting this but looks like a great opportunity and I would be a pretty miserable guy if it doesn't work out! I have no financial interest in this other than my desire to fish Alaska this summer. http://www.kenaifishingacademy.org/
  17. I bought an arch from Atlantic a few years ago. Great product and very nice company to work with.
  18. 1 more for the Americans has been placed......USA, USA,USA....
  19. CAN'T HEAR YOU, TOO MANY LIGHTS BREAKING!
  20. Had trailer welding done at Pro Tech here in Rochester. Sorry I don't remember his name. I originally got it by talking to the guys at Brad's Trailer Service. Fixed a bent axle and did a great job.
  21. Damn...was wondering when Hans would get around to giving me my credit!
  22. Beautiful night to be on the water......when it starts like that, you know the fishing sucked! Slight ripple, clear ski. 5:00 pm til 8:30 pm in front of Genny from 100-140 deep. Sporadic screen, decent marks at times from 70-100 down. Temp was WARM til you got to a good break way down at 90 feet. Marks seemed to disappear as we worked outside 130 or so. Only a few bait balls marked. Only 1 release, didn't see any other nets move despite a decent amount of boats. Tough fishing. Sorry don't have much else to help people with. 1st true skunking of the year...guess I can't complain.
  23. Oh my god. Secretary just came in and asked why I can't stop laughing.... Thanks for the updates Ray.
