  1. Thanks for the post. Flat water can make any trip nicer.
  2. Good luck, I am envious. Any info you provide will be greatly appreciated.
  3. Damn, just saw this post and hadn't heard. Great show, and he definitely understood that fishing can be more than just chasing fish- he had a way of making every trip sound almost religious.
  4. Perfect...Cooter can lose fish even quicker now with that fast retrieve!
  5. By no means is it new- 1978 Silverton Convertible. Inherited from an Uncle that passed away and had to keep the boat in the family. I fished this boat for many years out of Bridgeport CT with my Uncle, Dad and brothers. He passed away and left it to us boys. My brothers and I made the Hudson/canal trip last summer on her and then got to work getting her back into mechanical shape and LO fishable. Interior is spacious, lots of teak and in pristine condition. Exterior needs some tlc to the fiberglass and I have refinished all the teak and added all the usual toys for salmon fishing. Twin Chrysler 318s were purring by the time she was put away after many hours in last summers heat working on them. All worth it though as I know my Uncle is smiling as I share this.
  6. I have never had a fish mounted so my numbers may be very different. I always said 13 lb Brown or 30 lb salmon until I caught the ugliest 35 lb king in September I ever saw- photo is just good enough for that one! I agree with above, biggest is never the whole story so I never know when I will catch the one that gets mounted.
  7. I used to fish off one and enjoyed it very much. Nice all around boat. Good luck to you, enjoy.
  8. Wow! Ordered 2 rods at 11 am on Tuesday and they were in my office in Rochester when I arrived Wednesday morning! Great service. Thank you.
  9. • Tuesday, February 28, 2012: 7 – 9:30 p.m. at the Ingel Auditorium, in Building 4 (Student Union) on the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) campus, Rochester (Monroe County). The meeting is co-hosted by RIT and the Monroe County Fishery Advisory Board. Please note location update.
  10. For Rochester site it has been at the Imaging Sciences Auditorium, in Chester F. Carlson Building (76) on the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) campus for the last couple of years. Pack the house, as always folks.
  11. I hear ya....but I have changed my rationale so I can spend more. At the LOTSA seminar last year we learned that you should run all the same lures in a pattern to help identify what exactly is the key to your success. Made sense to me....so now I have to buy at least 6 of everything!!! I look at my hodgepodge of lures with disdain unless I have 6 of them. lol This time of year can be tough fighting the urge to spend money and get us closer to spring. Be strong.
  12. Tires? Are those the things we put between the boat and the dock? (Very nice thought Ray, thanks)
  13. In September I was trolling just inside the mouth of the Genny when the port rigger rod fired. Fought a nice salmon to the back of the boat and tried to solo net the beast and snapped my line. Unhappy about the loss I started re-rigging when the center rigger fired. Not as good of a fight, but decent, and then lost that one at the stern before I could see it well. Of course the lone remaining rod fires and I reel that somewhat lethargic fish in. By now I am in front of the Yacht Club, and to my surprise, when I finally get the hog in the net he has all 3 of my lures attached to it in various ways! I kept snagging the thing as it crossed my lines apparently. Got it in the boat, weighed up at 35lbs and released it after 3 good fights. My biggest salmon ever.
  14. Looking to do another trip to Key West in late March for 2 days of chartering. Did Sailfish last year and would love to stay inland and tarpon fish one day this year if conditions are right. Therefore, looking for somebody that can accomodate both inshore and offshore. We enjoyed our charters last year but looking to change it up this year. Anyone have any recommendations for a charter in Key West area? Also looking for ideas on places to stay that wont break the bank- would rather have money go into the charters and dancers!
  15. Great info Sean, thanks. I ordered some samples and will likely be starting with my flybridge. I love this site!
  16. Sean, not sure how to word this, but is the texture rubbery like and comfortable under foot or more of a hard plastic like? Since it can roll up I am assuming it is rubbery and comfortable to walk on? Looks like great stuff.
  17. The best is when you scare yourself when passing the mouse through to something else...despite KNOWING they are there.
  18. I have new to me older model Silverton with a flybridge. It appears the bridge floor has been painted and repainted numerous times. I was thinking of trying some good quality interlocking rubber mats cut to fit the entire upper helm rather than painting this year. Anyone out there ever try this and have any thoughts on how it worked out?
  19. Obtained boat from CT that has a Raytheon 425 with cartridge for Long Island Sound. Anyone need one? Make an offer. I am looking for a Lake Ontario cartridge if anyone has one.
  20. Looking to purchase a used Lake Ontario cartridge for my old Raytheon 425. Anyone have one hanging around?
  21. What a great piece of news. Of course, they shot it down for financial reasons only and really still don't give a damn what any of us little people think. I too want to thank everyone who voiced their opposition to this plan and worked so hard against it. Well Done!
  22. Great info. Thanks for sharing it. Also glad to see the fishing has been so good and our local charters are capitalizing on it and the business that follows.
