  1. Jim, thanks for following up with Dennis. I sent him out a package today as well. He should have it on Wednesday, Thursday at the latest. Dennis after you receive these along with what the others may have sent please advise, that you in fact received so others who may want to offer, know where any short comings are--Many thanks to each and every one who has offered--Duane
  2. Capt. Carl, thank you for your response. I pulled my camper up to the Oak today ( didn't get to fish ) and grabbed a few items I'm sending to Dennis on Monday via U.P.S. I'm sure that he will very much appreciate whatever you and others give. God bless--Duane
  3. Thanks Tim, knew I could count on you- Griz hope that answers all your questions. Best of luck with it---Duane
  4. Chatt, this is currently in the --This Old Boat section -- under the Soft top thread-Hope this helps. Best of luck in whomever you choose--Duane As Misty mentioned, depending on where you are located. I had mine done just a couple years ago by Conneautville Canvas- 814-587-2755. Located in NW Pa. This is operated by the Amish and they did an absolutely superb job on mine. And I consider myself hard to impress. It was done for considerably less of what a factory soft top, for I looked into it. I have a 24' Penn Yan Contender. They did the top, new vinyl side windows, weather stripped around the front glass where it snaps into place. Along with heavy industrial zippered a travel cover that they double layered the cover that has any contact with any metals at all such as side rod holders. They split the cover in 3 places in the back where I have my rigger mount and then velcroed around the posts to prevent any rain or elements from getting in. All for less than $700.00- I highly recommend them for those who would travel-Think you will be well pleased. I do know however due to their work there is a waiting list.- Best of luck in whom ever you choose-Duane Chinook, I guess you had to take the boat to them for a perfect fit as opposed to shipping the old canvas to use as a template? Let me know. I will be in the market in a few seasons myself otherwise I will probably take it to the local canvas guy that Mike"s is recommending. G.B.- you are correct in that I took the boat for them to size and fit. I did it however on the off season. They had it less than a week- I forgot to mention in my post that the price also included a travel boot as well. Simply roll the soft top up and wrap the boot around with industrial zipper and travel. Anyone who knows of the Amish know of their workmanship-Top notch I.M.O. -Duane
  5. Agree with Gambler and Yankee about the 45. If you run the copper down the chute attach a float to provide clearance out the back. Tim Bromund has a photo of this application. Tim help here ? This works well. --Duane
  6. Dennis, If you can wait a week or 2, I have a Heartland diver rod and a few rigger rods that I'll give to you. My boat is sitting at the Oak, and depending where you are located maybe we could meet there sometime. I'm sure that I have some spoons as well that I can part with. Just pass it on someday Duane
  7. C'mon, raising the out of state fee from $35 to $70 is going to make people stop fishing? I dont' think so. Most people spend more than that $35 extra in beer each day on the water Seriously though, fishing isn't exactly cheap with gas, dockage, etc. I don't think the annual will hurt too much. I wish they'd lower the 1 day nonresident to $5 as well though to help increase the amount of people who come to NY to "try" fishing Lake Ontario. Nick Nick I can assure you that it will have some not buy their out of state license. Wait til you start to have a family and then tell me that statement 10 years down the road. I have been blessed in that I can afford to buy at any expense. I know of some of my friends and others who can't afford the almost doubling in price. And they simply won't go unless someone springs for the additional cost. I still feel that a fishing license is a good buy. Don't question that. But to say that it won't effect some plans is ludicrous I.M.O.--Duane
  8. Capt Rick, thanks for your follow up. I know many like yourself and me probably buy some tackle that may never see the water due to the arsenal we are already supplied with. But we know that we need to do so, and drop a few dollars into those local shops to allow them to stay in business. I have absolutely no ties with Capt. Cove other than patronizing them on occasion. So thanks for the business you do send them and may you be blessed with a 30#er that you don't pass off to the old girl friend Shade I agree that savings is savings and some need to watch their spending. I have no problem with that. Just trying to point out like Yankee did the need to support the locals-- Duane
  9. Howie, doesn't surprise me about the comfort at Capt Cove. Stayed there on a number of occasions. And enjoyed my stay as well. I would encourage all to patronize local ( Capt Cove or else where ) for this new cut bait or other fishing needs. I know that I myself, looked into getting it from out of state before I found out Capt Cove would be carrying this. We need to patronize any and all of these local tackle shops. Especially with the economic times being what they are. They are often a great source of local info and rely our business to be able to keep their doors open. Could we buy a spoon or 2 on the internet and save a few bucks. No doubt. But some of the perks of patronizing these locals, far out weighs any discounts I.M.O.-Duane
  10. Carl, I agree with Kremer. Thanks for the report. Haven't been up for a couple of weeks. Nice to know what I'm missing out on. Got a report early last week about some inside fishing. You pretty much confirmed what I was told anyways. Hope to get up this weekend, to pull my camper up to the Oak. May get to fish a day if weather allows-Duane
  11. Michelle- Really glad to hear this. I have more confidence now that we may see this happen with you guys in charge. Thank you for looking into this, and hope it is of the same quality as the old Rhy's Davis. I know that the flies have a huge following, but so does the use of meat still. Hope to get up to the Oak for this weekend, if I can get a few errands taken care of. If not, will be next weekend for sure. Put my name on a sample pack please. Thank you-Duane
  12. As I made mention before, I will pay what they want me to as a non resident. But I know of some who simply won't or can't afford it. Having said that, they acted fast enough on this. Wonder if they will now look into letting the trollers of the lake use the 3 rods we have been asking for as well? Whats the chance of that happening as quickly? Some times less is more, but it still would be nice to be able to use that 3rd rod on occasion, esp when there are only 2 on board. - Duane
  13. Absolutely agree with Yankee in all regards. First off get the X4. It is like night and day from the old Fish Hawk probe. And as Rick also mentioned, you can catch targets without speed and temp . I fished many years without such a unit, and caught my share of salmonoids through the years, by other means. Such as reading the rigger cables, watching the angle and for bubbles. Watching the diver rods, and rod tip on a thumper rig. These will help to monitor speed but will not in looking for preferred temps. You can fish the marks, but once the thermocline sets up, its rewarding to fish the ice water of 39-42 degrees and up if targeting mature kings. But as staging time arrives, matures will be caught out of temp anyways, for mother nature takes over. So does it put more fish in the boat? I would have to say yes. Is it absolutely needed, that's for you to decide. But an item I would put high on the -to get- list.- Duane

  16. Ed, thanks for the follow up for Stan. Was gone all last night to Pittsburgh- Way to Go Pens - The Pirates were on the losing end however. The stuff you ordered last year from Kings' is that the old style packed on oil ? As far as contacting Fish On - I don't believe they will ship to an individual however. So those interested will have to either place a phone order to a distributor , or hope that the distributor for Ontario does in fact come thru. I have a few calls into them but no return phone call. Thus the reason I pre ordered it. Hind sight being 20-20 what some of us should have done is got an order together and bought in bulk. Still hoping this hits Ontario for I know many who like myself still have a lot of faith in the meat.-Duane
  17. Chinook 35- When I saw the add on the GLA site, I called Calumet Marine @ 708-862-2407, and talked to someone when they first made the post. They in fact told me that they would do a shipping order since I wanted a whole case. Then a day later they made the post about doing in house sales only. I then called back to confirm that they still plan to send and was told that they are indeed. The cost of the case was $115.00 -( for 30 packs of premium, but now they are packing 36 to a case so I see) and I told them to pack on dry ice and add whatever the shipping charge is to the bill. So having said that, I'm at their mercy now if in fact they honor their promise, to answer your question about how I ordered. Again, I talked to a rep about the availabilty on this on Ontario and was told that it will be available in less than a month.-Hope this helps-Duane
  18. Chrome, can you expound on your statement about alot of people not pleased with the sample. Reason I ask is that I was just told today that the new premium was first being introduced to lake Michigan ( this week) then filter its way to Ontario. On top of that was told that only a few samples were sent out for trial to Ontario? And those who had used it were pleased. Just wondering where you heard any negatives about this, for I have a case on order ( 36 packs) and many friends who are asking for it. I know there were problems when the old style was packed on oil, but thought this would be somewhat corrected by packing in the current brine being used- Duane
  19. I know that there has been some interest to the new Fish On Premium Herring cut bait. I contacted the company just this morning and inquired about its availability on Lake Ontario this year. I was assured that it would be available, from a distributor in possibly a few more weeks. I have a call into them as well to confirm. Was also told that they sent several trial packs out to some who had nothing but good to say about the product. I am in no way affiliated with Fish On, just trying to pass along some info that I know some were hoping to hear. This is packed in brine in lieu of the oil that they used to use. This will be somewhat along the lines of the old Rhy's Davis product. --Duane
  20. Tim, hope your day is a good one for you. Happy birthday, and thanks for all you do in regards for L.O.T.S.A- Duane
  21. Happy birthday Shawn, hope the day is a good one for you.-Duane
  22. Get-A-Way- the outlet is Calumet Marine. Their phone # is 708-862-2407. They claim to be getting the Fish-On herring strips in shortly. The very day they posted it on the GLA site, i lucked out in seeing it and called immediately. The next day, I see they posted they are not doing shipping orders and it is in store sales only. So I called them back and they confirmed about sending me mine since I called to inquire before the last post about in store sales. Again I firmly believe that somewhere on Lake Ontario will have to carry this. For they know that there is still a following for the cut bait.-Hope this helps-Duane
  23. I have contacted the outlet to which you speak, and they have assured me that it will be available. I have ordered a case of it and they claim it will be here by the middle of June. The new cutbait -VHS free-is supposedly packed, brined and frozen in water, in lieu of the past oil which didn't hold up that well. As far as who may be selling it on Lake Ontario, I was told that at this point they were not sure who or if it will be available this year. I would have to think however that Fish On would have it be made available somewhere along the shoreline. I just didn't want to take a chance so I went ahead and placed an order once I saw it advertised. -Duane
  24. Rick, happy birthday. Hope your day is a good one for you. I view every birthday just 1 day closer to fishing full time -Duane
  25. Troy, that works perfect for me as well. For I can't fish the weekend of July 30th due to a huge softball tournament I direct. I want you to drop me a reminder ( P.M) around the middle of July, or call my cell 814-671-1430, as I may forget. As far as Fairport, I mean Ohio. They are some good friends of mine who fish the Oak on occasion, but fish Erie on a somewhat regular basis for walleyes and perch. They are from Mantua Ohio.
