  1. Here is a link to some good info. Check it out. I'm sure it will help you as much as it did me. As you'll read I ended up with the FCV-620. Had it out about 5 times now and am vary happy with it. http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishin ... ht=fcv+620 Happy shopping
  2. Boy.....I sure wish this spring derby would hurry up and get over. All this secrecy is really killing me . Pretty quiet out there  . No more reports. No more b@ll busting. No more razzing. No more bragging  . I can wait for Split' to spill his guts out when it's over so the rest of us can start catchin' instead of fishin' . Good luck to all in the Derby. Hope to see a couple LOU members win some prizes. I won't be fishing the derby. I'll be on the side lines waiting for some tips .
  3. come on split, everyone knows that a secret isn't any good unless you tell someone (me ). That's what secrets are for. Right Z?
  4. Nice job guys. I went out Saturday and was worse than skunked . Fished 4 hours and all I got was one of those snake fish like you have in your first picture. Guess I'm going back to fishing school  . Your getting lots of hits on your post. They must be like the fish I'm encountering,....lock jaw .
  5. Thanks Mark for setting us straight. That's what I like about LOU. Got a problem or question? It gets kicked around a bit and we all learn something. I guess if there is going to be a standard it's really not a standard till all or at least the majority in that industry participate in using it :? . Kinda like using the metric system in the USA  .
  6. I found this article off the Drudge Report. Thought I'd share it...... http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.c ... .DTL&tsp=1
  7. Roger that, Musky. That one (on the South West side) has been closed at least 5 years now. Not one of the launches that I referred to in the above post.
  8. There are also two (3) launches in the canal at Sylvan Beach. One on the south/east side of the canal just before you go over the bridge and two on the north side. Skinners Harbor (or what ever name it is now) and a small single dirt launch just East of Skinners. They all have a launch fee and not sure what it costs now. The Indians own two of them and if they are only $10.00 you'll be lucky. BTW, Fish Creek runs off the canal up about a mile from the lake so if your planning on fishing there it would maybe be cheeper to launch at the canal rather than burn the gas to motor up from Marion Manor. Luck to all.
  9. Tom Hanks thanks you for your kindness. What did you do with him?
  10. Not necessarily. Just this week I had to contact Furuno to get the color code for their FCV-620 fishfinder. The book wasn't clear what the NMEA in/out wires were to hook up to my Garmin GPSMAP-162. Somebody (Garmin or Furuno) isn't using the same color code to identify the NMEA wiring :? . Your best bet is to contact the manufacturer of your outdrive and get the right info once. Once Furuno gave me that info( within 3 hours of my email request) the hookup was painless and now my FF & GPS are talking to each other .
  11. Is the engine mounted on the bracket? If so you will still need to put some downword pressure on the unit to lower the bracket. Be carefull and keep everyones (& your) fingers away from the bracket cause it will take them off as if they were play-dough  .
  12. That stainless bar on the side is a lock. One end (toward the transom) just lifts over a nut on the side and keeps the mount from lowering. Swing the locking arm out of the way while using the kicker and then lock the kicker up while trailering. I would also strap the kicker in the up position if you intend to trailer the boat with the kicker mounted.

  14. OK `dog-y, now you have everyones attention. So.....a rose by any other name is still a rose....right. Pop Gear, Lake Troll, Cow Bells.....all the same. Here is a picture of one of the rigs I made up  but it just didn't pull all that well.. :? ....... ............the stand is just to hold the cow bells for picture takein' if you know what I mean . PS: I'm on my second glass of wine now so don't get mad at me...OK . Just having a little fun
  15. Hay `dog. As others have mentioned it sounds like your using lake troll/christmas tree rig/etc or similiar. Post a picture of what your using and take a mystery :? out of it. Just maybe we have a different name for it and someone may be able to point you in the right direction but by the sounds of it if they are not in your local shops then you'll have to mail order. We've made some various riggs using smaller willow leaf blades to try and reduce the drag but it just wasn't my bag so they only got used once. Those riggs do catch fish but I for one don't like pulling them `cause of draaaaag. I like to move along and those riggs are for sloooow-troll and is fine on smaller bodies of water. Dodgers & flashers also catch fish and that is about all the drag I really want to put up with.
  16. Thought I'd post this link for those of you that use State launch facilities and may not be aware of this park pass. It's for the "Empire Passport" which cost $59.00 for the season. The pass gives you unlimited entry to most State recreational facilities. The launch fee last year was $7.00 if the park has swimming available and $6.00 if not. Not sure if the rates will be raised this year. After 8-9 launches your money ahead for the year. http://www.nysparks.state.ny.us/passport/ You can order one online or at any State Park Office when the are open.
  17. Thanks for the heads up Split'. I find it interesting that with all the doom & gloom in NYS and the state budget is about to explode they go and spend $11 mill on parks  . Similiar to the mid 90's when Dean's and Long Point were rebuilt. With all the pissing & moaning about NYS one really can't **** about our parks.
  18. I wonder why they didn't use the Yamaha 150 2 stroke for a comparison ( or any other 2 stroke for that matter) instead of the 4 stroke? Not really apples to apples. :?
  19. ReilDiel, my post was not aimed at you or anyone else and I apolpgize if I offended you, your company, your industry or anyone else . I was just pointing out that you really don't don't know what is in the package until you dig a little deeper. It was sorta like last month when I went into the frig and pulled out a well known brand of a half empty 1 liter bottle of apple juice from what I thought was an American product (no names `cause I don't want to piss anyone else off here), and while I was drinking a small glass of the juice I glanced at the side of the label and saw, "concentrate from China" over printed on the label. I almost puked. I threw the rest away and have been warning everyone else since then to read the label if you give a zhit were it comes from. BTW, after checking labels from the same manufacturer since I haven't found any more "concentrate from China" on them. Guess I wasn't the only one that noticed it. Ok, again, I'm sorry . Just remember, not every steelhead jumps and not every laker dives to the bottom, so what you get into the boat may not be what you think your reeling in `till you see it for sure  .
  20. Not to blow a hole in anyone's post but this is what I come up with on were the gas you put in your car/truck/boat comes from issue.. .... "Can I tell which country or State the gasoline at my local station comes from? The Energy Information Administration (EIA) cannot definitively say where gasoline at a given station originated since EIA does not collect data on the source of the gasoline sold at retail outlets. The name on the service station sign does not tell the whole story. The fact that you purchase gasoline from a given company does not necessarily mean that the gasoline was actually produced by that particular company’s refineries. While gasoline is sold at about 167,000 retail outlets across the nation, about one-third of these stations are “unbrandedâ€
  21. I'm still planning on being there. boat name " Li'l Buddy" ...no crew yet, only 2 rods runnin' so far (handicaped )...waiting for Chaos to make up his mind wether he is going to jump on board before I go down to ManPower and recruit. At a minimun I'll need his crypto code for the uplink .
  22. ....what the others said and also be sure not to attach your releases to the fin of the pancakes. With your releases attached to the back of the weight the tension on the line will tend to steer the weight as you tighten up on the rod to load your set  . Attach to the cable so the weight can track without interference. BTW....I have 2 pancakes I'd sell if anyone is interested. Pickup only, will not ship .
  23. Ray....saw your van/trailer at Treman launch yesterday morning. Gave ya a couple blasts on the radio (68 ) while we were fishin but no response. We stayed pretty much on the south end and targeted the surface bite. Picked up a few browns and 1 dink salmon for our efforts,...oh...my guest just had to wack one of those snake fish (northern) also . I told him the next time he fishes with me to be sure to tell his lures to only target salmonoids  or he'll have to leave his tacklebox home. Our fish came on a combination of sticks & spoons. Early was chartreusey stuff and then change to naturals when sun came out. We broke down about 1 PM and shot the bull for another hour & half in the parking lot. The fish we caught got a lot bigger the longer we talked about them  . My guest asked that I not identify him `cause he has a reputation on Cayuga to uphold and fishing on my boat would sorta blow that. Can you imagine someone saying that to you?....and after I bailed him out with his wife. Ya....he figured that if his boat was in the driveway that his wife would think he was at work.....so he jumps on my boat and everyone is happy. DEC stopped by the launch when we were pulling out. He went around checking boats but didn't bother us. Another trip down and no tickets yet this season . Life is good .
  24. Nice report `dauber, thanks for participating. Glad your trip paid off for you. Ray....Capital district huh  , how come I feel another tax increase coming? I can see this trip showing up in the new (someday) state budget  . Since my last post here the state passed the budget  . The results weren't as good for some of us as expected. State budget cut out the Law School at SUNY Binghamton and sent the money down state. There was a side bar on the budget that read something like, " pick up the tab at Kings Ferry Hotel after `dauber and his buddies have a fishing trip. We'll fund it with the money from the SUNY Binghamton Law School project"
