  1. A couple more to add to your list http://www.lakemichiganangler.com/ http://www.stanleysstingerflies.com/ http://www.atommiktrollingflies.com/ http://www.siggsrigs.com/ http://www.purpletacoflies.com/ http://www.gloutdoorstore.com/ http://www.fishdoctorcharters.com/videos/video2A.html http://www.up-north.com/stamina/ http://www.northernkinglures.com/
  2. I saw the Parker's at the Richmond, VA boat show last year . If I was in the market for a boat it would be in the lineup for consideration. Also the MayCraft is another prospect. http://www.maycraftboats.com/model_2300pilot.php Anyway, I think that a autopilot on your main engine and a connecter to the kicker is the way to go. There will be times when you'll want to use the main for trolling and also it's pretty nice to have if you have any distance to go when up on plane. It's to bad that the Raymarine Smart Pilot is delayed coming out. There is a definite market for the helm controlled units. Space is a big issue in the 18' to 23' boats and pumps, hoses and the rest of the stuff you have to bury in what little space you have can be an issue. My King AP is 1980's technology and is still working. Not the greatest by todays standards but at least it works. You would think that someone would have been able to take over that part of the market after King went out of business in the early 90's.
  3. ....wow Sean,....now that Parker is my idea of a fishing boat Did ya pick that up in down around the Chesapeake area?
  4. The Simad is made for mechanical(cable) or hydraulic steering. While the unit for the mechanical steering systems seems to be an easy intall from what I read, other posts about the hydraulic unit is something else altogether. My Bud' installed a hydraulic unit this past season and had a little trouble getting tech support from Simrad when the unit arrived without any hyd. hoses to connect the pump into the system. While frustrating it was also expensive to get the proper hoses and adapters which ended up being custom made at a local shop. So with that being said do any of you out there have any experience installing the Simrad Hyd. system autopilot? If so, can you pass along some tips and some potential hangups doing the install. I'm sure there are a few of us guys that are in the market for a first time or replacement (like me) autopilot. My boat is presently equipped with cable steering and a King AP2000 autopilot (18 yrs old, on it's 2nd boat & still running ). I want to change my steering over to hydraulic and replace the autopilot at the same time. Simrad is getting the thumbs up from everyone that has been responding to these autopilot posts so I'm leaning in that direction.
  5. Dion, I just emailed Raymarine on Tuesday (2/3/09) at 10:05AM about this vary unit. Here is my email to them. "I'm interested in replaceing my autopilot with the SmartPilot X-5 Sport Autopilot (E12206). Since it was introduced last year it hasn't been available through most if not all sources. Also I made a few inquiries on my local fishing forum which covers New York and bording states and no one seems to know anything about them. Is the unit going to be on the market for this spring? The 2009 boating season has already started for those that want to get new equipment installed. My boat hits the water the last week of March and I sure would like to get this type of work done before that. Any information about the SmartPilot X-5 Sport Autopilot, good or bad, would be appreciated. Thanks" Their response came back at 11:46AM. Not bad, less than 2 hours to hear from them. This is what they said, "We are looking at March 2009." Not much of a response if you ask me . Even though the unit looks good on paper I think caution is needed here . My big question is why are they having such a problem coming to market with this unit?
  6. This post went up yesterday...... viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9174 I didn't see anything about rods in the 2010 rule consideration.
  7. Yankee this may not be what you are looking for but just thought I'd throw this setup into the mix. It works good for me.
  8. All I want for Christmas is a patch kit for my dolls.
  9. Stix,....Huntfrisco just installed one in his new boat this summer. I believe he has the BayStar steering. He did have some fitting, adaptor hose and compass placement issues. After solving all that the unit works pretty good.
  10. Now there is a good name for a new spoon line . Talons
  11. Hay Tom, thanks for taking so much of your time on this issue. It's really important to so many of us. As a Finger Lakes troller I would really like to see other lakes included in this endeavor. A new regulation may be easier for the State to change if it's a general rule for trolling. When exceptions are included then it starts to get messy and it will probably just sit in Committee for years. The real pressure for DEC to act on this will come from our Assemblymen. They are the ones who's job is on the line for reelection and they are the ones that can move STUFF through when the pressure is on from their constituents. Again, I'm behind this regardless of how its presented but will the hundreds of other New York States fishermen care if they are left behind? Tom a lot of LOU members will be reading this and I just wanted to get my point of view out there and hopefully rally the troops . I don't want to come across as being critical of the issue because I'm not. I just want to be included in something that would benefit a lot more fishermen than just those on Lake Ontario. This isn't a single lake issue and I'm sure you'd get a lot more support form the rest of us with a little consideration. Thanks
  12. Were is all the water going ? Using it to put out all those forest fires Well Stan it seems in this case living in New York does have it's advantages over California when it comes to Natur(al)e resources. Lots of green trees, lots of water and lots of fish & game. Hope that your situation corrects itself but it doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon.
  13. I was more impressed with the doubles. You know how much fun that is.
  14. Dave you are more than welcome to this site and we are fortunate to have you join us. It's the effort of people like you that allow guys like us the freedom to enjoy the great natural resources we have here in New York. I'm also a vet of a war from yesteryear and do not take this freedom for granted. I salute you and your comrades . Please be safe and thank the rest of the soldiers for all of us. Have a Merry Christmas and may the New Year bring you those fish that you are dreaming of. Godspeed
  15. Thanks for sharing. Really good stuff.
  16. Even though I don't fish Lake Ontario I will support any effort to have the number of lines increased. I, like many other members of this board fish the finger lakes and would surely appreciate being included in this effort. Rod/lure/hook point limits per boat should also be considered. A charter with captain, mate, 4 to 6 clients = 12 to 16 lines now with the present regulations. The 3 line rule could increase that limit to 18 to 24 lines . So a lot of things besides the obvious need to be kicked around on this subject before DEC is dragged into it . Bottom line is the 2009 season will probably be unchanged .
  17. I wonder who Z is refering to ?
  18. I'm one of those Finger Lake's guys that usually fishs alone or one other person. Not many fish go in my cooler. Usually only the injured ones and the rest go back. There are many days that all the fish are released without being netted. My enjoyment comes from fishing, not eating, so more lines the merrier on my boat .
  19. I have to agree with you Glen . The rest of us want to catch fish too .
  20. Roger that Chowder. It's a 8" ProTroll and Stan the leader length is 20" from the end of the leader loop to the tip of the fly nose.
  21. This 9.5 lb Cayuga Lake brown was caught in June of this year. 60 clicks on the line counter, #2 setting on the dipsey, 35'-40' bottom depth.
  22. Welcome aboard Dennis. You'll usually find me up the lake a ways around Long Point-Levanna area. Great bunch of guys here and you'll even get some tips on what’s hot & what’s not,.....> after the B@ll busting of course . Think about joining in on the `09 Cayuga LOU-All. Well worth the time and it was in your back yard this year. Check this out. http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishin ... php?t=5013 http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishin ... highlight=
  23. Thanks for your post Chris. I was afraid that there was a problem with those units seen as no one has been talking about them in the various autopilot topics. That's too bad. Raymarine just can't get it in this class of autopilot. I really hate to say good bye to my King because it has given me great service for 17 years in two different boats but I don't want to wait until it breaks before I do something about it and I really can't change my steering without replacing the autopilot. Right now time is on my side so I'll keep looking & shopping.
  24. OK......I know we are into the hunting season and most guys are putting their boats away but I'm still thinking about fishin' and starting to shop for a new autopilot. My present unit (King AP2000) is 17 years old, overhauled 6 years ago and although it is still working Ok I'm going to retired it this winter. I'm thinking about replacing my steering system (cable) as well with a new hydraulic system in the spring. My boat is a 19' glass hardtop with a outboard engine. The Raymarine SmartPilot X-5 Sport came out this year and I was wondering if any of you have one and what your experience/opinion is. http://www.raymarine.com/ProductDetail. ... ODUCT=4177 The new unit looks good on paper but does it work?.....all the time?....not like the old sport pilots did. Any input will not only help me but anyone else in the market for an autopilot in this class boat.
