  1. Been using 50 lb big game and no snubber for years. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  3. Yes, it covers all of that and more. It is the one for US and Canada. The $15.00 is a one time fee to buy the App. It turns my phone into a fully functional chart plotter. The detail with the enhanced maps add on is outstanding. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app.
  4. The Navionics App I have on my iPhone was around $15.00. I would imagine that is the one you would use on a tablet as well. for an additional $3.99 a year you can get the enhanced maps which is awesome.
  5. Actually, it looks like a hybrid. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Mark, Personally, I would do that on spoon rods, but not flasher fly rods.
  7. I'd really like to see them tell me my boat isn't clean enough after I'm done pressure washing at the marina, considering that my boat only sees one body of water, and it sits there from the time it goes in it's slip in the spring til I tow it home for the winter.
  8. You put way too much faith in people that have to generate revenue to justify there existence, especially in this back-ass state.
  9. It varies by port, but 68 seems to get the most chatter.
  10. :-P In the immortal words of Sgt Hulka: Lighten up Francis. BTW, I don't have a Furuno on my boat.
  11. Back in the mid 90's before the fleas showed up, all we ever ran on our rigger rods was 12 lb Trilene XT and many 30+ kings hit the deck. With a smooth, properly set drag and matched tackle, 17 isn't necessarily too light, but you can't try and horse them in.
  12. As LongLine mentioned, unless you match the weight of the single to the weight of the treble it's replacing, you will change the action of the spoon. Sometimes you want to do this depending on the weight of the blank and what it's effective trolling speed is. Take an NK for example, they are a fairly heavy blank and it is almost impossible to run them too fast, but hang dead at slower speeds. Evil Eyes on the other hand are a very thin, light blank and have superb, fish catching action at slow speeds, but will spin out at the speeds an NK is effective at. If you try running both in the same spread one or the other isn't going to be running right. You can mitigate this to an extent by changing the weight of the hook. A heavier hook than the stock one will allow the slower running spoon to be run effectively at higher speeds and conversely, a lighter hook will allow the heavier spoon to have action at slower speeds. This may be something you want to do intentionally with your lures, but you have to do some on the water testing to make sure your swap doesn't mess up the action of a lure you've previously had good luck with. Just something to consider when swapping hooks out, if you want the spoon the run the same the same way and at the speeds you are used to running it at, you need to match the weight of the new hook as closely as possible to the weight of the hook it is replacing. I have a digital grain scale that I use for checking powder loads for reloading ammunition. These are very sensitive and can give you a good idea how much the weight of the hooks and thereby, the affect on the action may be.
  13. I was always under the understanding that to an extent, the timing of the various tournaments was also directed at least partially by the availability of slips available in the marinas to house the tournament boats. I'm guessing between pleasure boats, charter boats and people booking transient slips for when the fishing is prime, there aren't a lot of unoccupied slips at the time you'd like to move it to.
  14. 1.8-2.2 is the hot zone on my boat with the Depth Raider most days.
  15. Depth Raider and Subtroll both display .4-.5 slower at the same actual speed than the X4. Don't know which one or any are right, but it's really irrelevant as long as you can repeat what's working.
  16. Some of the nicest launch ramps on the entire lake are right there at the Town of Newfane Marina, around the corner from your lodging. Cut bait can be gotten at both the Slippery Sinker and the Boat Doctors, pretty much right next to the Lighthouse, and at ASB Tackle, right by Cafora's Restaurant on Rte 78 in Newfane ( Cafora's has great food also). 17. Actually, it is to prevent someone from going out, catching a big fish and the entering the derby after the fish is caught so they can weigh it in. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. No, they aren't fast, but they are dependable. Wouldn't use heavier than a 12 lb weight on em. Even that will be like watching glaciers recede but they'll certainly get the job done. Tim
  19. Actually, if that was during the day, that's not an unwarranted reaction. A bat out in the daytime is almost certainly rabid. If it was in the evening, near dusk.... not so much
  20. my old Mag 10A's struggled with 12 lb balls. My current Scottys barely even feel the 16's
