  2. Bill & Chris, My sincerest condolences. Dick Dennie
  3. I emailed Sen. Nozzolio & Assemblyman Oaks asking for their support. Might not hurt to contact your representatives. Dick
  4. I have two smelt dip nets available. They have steel mesh nets and about 6 ft. wood handles. Price is $15 ea. or $25 for the pair. PM me if interested. Thanks
  5. I have a couple small (1") rips in my fish trap fabric. The general fabric condition is excellent. Anyone patched one of these successfully?
  6. Anyone else get any hunting video on the FOB camera? How did they work?
  7. Since I could now use a rifle in some of the areas that I hunt, I decided to try my .243 cal because it was the largest rifle I currently own. I took the 10X scope off the Sako .243 and replaced it with a 3-9X. After researching suggestions of others, I settled on 100 gr. Remington Core-Lokt shells. They sighted in nicely and off I went. I eventually got a good shot at a nice doe at about 70 yd. When I went to the area, there was no blood to be found, but the deer lay dead about 15 yd. away. There was no blood visible on either side of the deer and I could not see an entrance or exit wound. Gutting the deer showed the top half of the heart blown off. I did not see the bullet. I know some say the .243 is marginal for deer while others say it is fine. My concern is with the lack of blood trail, it could be very difficult to find a deer that didn't drop close to where it was shot. Anybody else have similar experiences, or suggestions for a different load? Thanks, Dick
  8. I need to communicate with others who only have FRS radios and a VHF/GMRS won't work with them (I don't think).
  9. I'm looking for recently bought radios that are proving to work well. For many years we have been using old Motorola Talkabout 250 FRS radios and they worked very well. Finally, one failed and we have been trying to find a replacement. Two different new FRS/GMRS units have been tried in our group with very marginal or erratic performance. Anyone have a suggestion on a good one? Dick
  10. Wow! Thanks Mudflat. That video is excellent. It gives several good suggestions and they are installing the exact same transducer that I will be.
  11. What is the best marine sealant for a thru hull transducer? I'm installing one on my 270AJ and I don't want any leaks! Any other install advice is welcome also. Thanks, Dick
  12. Thanks for all the info guys. I found a local taxidermist that is going to do it for a reasonable price. I'll let you know how it turns out.
  13. Anyone have any experience with the preparation of a whitetail skull/antlers to make a European mount? I read about all the boiling, picking, scraping, etc. and it sounds like a big job. Also, some folks suggest hanging it on a fencepost for a year. Others, say bury it for (?) months. Has anyone tried the "bury it" method and do you bury the whole thing or do you leave the antlers sticking out? Can it be done professionally, locally, for a reasonable cost? Thanks, Dick
  14. wish I could see it from a little farther away!
  15. Can you explain how you are removing the pin bones? Thanks, Dick
  16. Has anyone had their boat waxed by a service and been particularly happy with the results? Looking for someone in the Webster/Ontario area.
  17. Tom, Could you post the payouts? I don't have much idea what is won at these 1 day events. Thanks, Dick
  18. Wow! Sounds like it's smokin' out of PB. Nice reports Jim & Tim.
  19. Chunky bow! Nice report Tom.
  20. Nice report Tim. .....been lovin that 300 FOW lately in that area. Dick
  21. Fast fishing out of Wilson today. Fished 8:30-1:30 and went 12/13 with a mixed bag of kings, steelhead, & 1 Atlantic. Mostly steelhead, down 50-90/300.... about 55-57W lines. 11 on spoons (NBK, blue dolphin, wonderbread), one 8# steelhead on a CB***h spinny/CB***h fly out 270. Couple of the kings were decent.
  22. Thanks guys, Sounds like it would be fine.
  23. I'm going to look at a 1988 27ft. Sea Ray Amberjack. The boat looks to be in good shape (from the pics) and there are only 800 hrs. on the engines. The engines are 4.3L GM/Mercruiser & Mercruiser I/O outdrives. I would be using the boat for salmon fishing loaded with 4 downriggers and lots of equipment, as well as up to 5 people on board. My main concern is whether these engines are sufficient to get the boat out of the water without laboring. I don't need a rocket and 25 mph cruise is fine but I don't want it severely underpowered also. Most hours on the boat would be spent trolling on one engine and then use both to go to & return from fishing areas up to 10 miles from port. I'd appreciate any thoughts/experience. Thanks
