  1. I'm going to replace the throttle & shifting cables going from my T-8 Yamaha to the control box near the helm. They are 3-4 yrs. old & quite hard to operate. I think much of the reason is due to many changes in direction and somewhat tight turns. I plan to smooth out the approach as much as I can but I was wondering if anyone has used cables that they thought were particularly smooth in tough applications. I see lots of ads and each claims to be better than the other. I'm looking for real experience. Thanks, Dick
  2. Are there any other launch ramps in Wilson except at the state park?
  3. I have a users manual for a Furuno FCV-582 CRT color video sounder. These are pretty old and my unit is long gone but if anyone has a use for the manual, PM me and you can have it. Dick
  4. Dave, Do you know if anyone has had success with rockets up your way in the spring? Dick
  5. Not good eh! Too bad, I was thinking of getting a couple. What is the problem? Dick
  6. So far I'm leading?? .... at 69!
  7. There is a loose rope pull (for emergencies) for my T8. I've never tried to use it... never needed to. Been a great motor though. Warrantee is 3 yrs. My power tilt motor failed in the last 3 mo. of coverage and it was replaced with no questions asked.
  8. Mine is a long shaft (25" I think). There wasn't much choice of bracket position once the I/O was cleared, had adequate mounting surface area, and the prop was below the boat. I don't think I could have achieved all three with a short shaft.
  9. Similar set up on my 24.5' Lund. Bracket, E-Z Steer, T8 Yamaha. Bracket was made and mounted by Mike's Marina in Mexico, NY.
  10. In my opinion: 351 Fords are good engines Straight inboards are less problematic and easier to maintain than I/O's Twin inboards are best, single inboards are sometimes a little hard to maneuver at the dock Twin inboards are rare in a boat less than 28' The single biggest concern in boats over 10-15 yrs. old is rot in stringers, transom, or bulkheads. Stringer rot is common in older Baha's (as in many other boat brands). I had a 31' Baha and learned the hard way. Just paid for a survey on a 1988 29' Penn Yan Prowler in OH, & found stringer, transom, and bulkhead rot. Always get a survey by a competent individual before you buy!! Dick
  11. Yes, biggest fish. Top three places. Only the biggest fish per boat can be entered.
  12. Do any of you guys have experience with Scotty riggers set up with the 350 Rodmaster II rodholders on the #259 height extenders? I may be getting a new set of Scottys and was wondering how well these worked compared to the standard dual rodholders. Thanks. http://www.scotty.com/fishing-gear-equipment/electronic-downriggers/1117-big-water-propack-tournament-series.htm
  13. I'm sure most have seen similar fish but I thought this was a especially nice picture of a post spawn steelhead taken yesterday off Pultneyville.

  16. Bringing the boat from Wilson back to Pultneyville for the rest of the year. Haven't been seeing many reports from the area. I plan to be out later in the week and would appreciate any info you guys would care to share. Thanks, Dick
  17. The power tilt on my 2 yr. old Yamaha T-8 HT stopped functioning. When I tried to lower it last week, it moved down a little then stopped. I tried to raise it and it moved a little. Then it wouldn't move at all. The fuses are good and I can hear a faint click when the up/dn switch is activated in either direction. I don't see any obvious problem. Anyone else had this problem or know the solution?
  18. Thanks for the post. I'm headed up tomorrow for a few days. Watching posts, I noticed folks catching fish closer to Wilson recently but running lures much deeper (100-120'). Last week near the red can, my experience was at lure depths much similar to yours ...... interesting! Obviously, we need to fish where the fish are but it's nice to have a place to start. Looks like there is a big range of possibilities. I appreciate the postings. Dick
  19. Are you guys using the new probe with the old readout? Does it work fine? Any downside compared to a complete new system?
  20. Yeah, I remember your boat now! When we set up, we were close to you. I was running on autopilot and thought I got a little close before I noticed. You turned a little away and that was helpful. I use 12# balls but you should be OK with 10#. Given that we were only fishing 30-50 ft. down, your blow back shouldn't be that bad. You might have been running a little quick. I was running about 2.5 mph SOG. Actually, I was holding the reading from my down probe at 2.0 but that usually converts to about 2.5 on the GPS. There is a healthy current in that area from the river plume so you have to slow your RPM's going into it and the opposite going against it to keep a similar down speed. PM me if I can be of further help. Dick
  21. Left home this morning in Wayne Co. at 5AM and arrived in Wilson at 6:45. Got the boat on the water a little after 7:30 and headed for the river. Not many boats on the way there and only 4 or 5 boats in view near the red can. Fished from 8:15 till 3:15 and went 9 for 10. Had one small coho. The rest were kings from 12 to 20#. Took fish going north, south, and east. Not one hit when headed west. Fished 80 to 230 FOW and all most fish came on painted lures (no silver). Hottest lure NK mag black/white/green glow and second is the same with purple glow. Could not get the copper to fire nor could I get spin doctor/fly combos to fire on the dipseys. Black/white spoons (Pirate 66 spooks) on the riggers were good. Lots of fun, lots of sunshine, no boats, & lots of fish. Here a couple pics of the fish & my crew today.
  22. Occasionally the stop beads on my Scotty riggers slide on the wire. Does anyone have any techniques that have worked to anchor them in place. I have thought of glue, RTV, etc. but haven't tried them yet. I've seen someone pinching on small splitshot on either side ........ what works?
